I recently became interested in get a "nice" bike. I've been looking around on cragislist, online and visited a few bike shops. I was overwhelmed at each of the bike shops simply because of the sales pitch. I went to Once Ridden Bikes today and was pleasantly surprised. I read the reviews on yelp prior to going, so I did not have my expectations set very high. Upon entering I was greeted. No one came over to me right away because they were both working on bike repairs. Several minutes later, Joe came over to me and offered help. I told him what I was looking for and he pointed me in the right direction. I chose a bike and took it for a spin. I purchased the bike and inquired about it not having a kickstand. Joe put one on my bike...it wasn't until I got home that I noticed that he didn't charge me for it. As I was leaving and already paid, I inquired about a water bottle holder. He went to the back of his store and came back with one. He put it on my bike and....again at no charge. Joe took the time to show me the basics on my bike and how to remove my front wheel so that I could fit it in my car easier. As other reviews have mentioned, the store does have a large selection of new bikes, however, in their defense....they do have a large selection of used bikes as well. Joe mentioned that the used selection on hybrid bikes was slim because he sells them so quickly due to their popularity. I will admit that Joe is not a bundle of energy but I never found him to be rude or found him trying to push me into a higher priced bike. He is very knowledgeable and does not have a relentless sales tactic. The prices are lower than any of the previous shops I went to and that alone sells the bikes themselves. I would recommend Once Ridden Bikes to anyone looking to get a fair price and will recommend them to my family and friends. read more

Over a year later, I still love Once Ridden. Although, the circumstances that brought me here are slightly sad - RIP Trek hybrid of yore... my old bike got stolen last summer! (And yes, it was U-locked up!). Sigh. But anyway, since I had such great service at Once Ridden last year, I knew I wanted to buy my next bike from them. Frankly, because I'm not rich, I was planning on settling for a used "this will do" bike - but I ended up getting a brand new hybrid road bike (a Fuji Crossroad 4.0) for about 300 bucks - which was what I was expecting to spend on a used bike that I probably wasn't going to even really like. And I really like this bike. SCORE. Jim helped me out - he was too sweet. He patiently listened to me babble like an idiot about my old bike and how I didn't know what all the suspension things were, etc, then he suggested this bike, which was similar in style to my old one (though I think more on the road side - my Trek was heavier duty, which made sense when I lived in Maine, but Ohizz isn't as hilly, so...). Anyway, Jim was just great, he took me outside and had be ride around on it, adjusted the seat a bunch of times to get the correct height, put the U-lock holder on for me, and moved the water bottle holder. I was really impressed. I definitely recommend Once Ridden if you're looking to get a bike or a bike repair - these guys are great. And I'm super psyched to RIDE BIKES again this summer!!! I've not dealt extensively with Once Ridden Bikes, but i did attempt to sell them (unload) the bike i was still lugging around from my teens. They didn't want it--even though the manager admitted it was a decent ride--because of the huge number of used bikes in stock there and the percentage of those that needed tuning up to be salable. He seemed a bit overwhelmed, so i didn't push it. I looked around at the rows of bikes and their reasonable prices and felt that Once Ridden Bikes is doing a good thing. They breathe new life into bikes that might've fallen to disrepair and serve them up to the transportation-needy for a range of prices that fits many budgets. Sadly, i couldn't make myself load that boyhood bike back into my car, so i left it leaning against the north side of Once Ridden Bikes. Hopefully somebody took it and used it. read more

Poor service, decent prices. I recently bought a bike from a different source and wanted a mounting bike rack for my sedan. I love to shop local, so I thought I'd hit the jackpot with Once Ridden Bikes. I contacted them via email and the tone of the responses were very clipped and abrupt. They held a mount for me and I went in the next day. When I went in, it was super awkward because no one greeted me. I was spoken to by a customer before the staff. They tried to sell me a new mount first, about $40 more. I opted for the lower priced one and waited a good while just to get checked out. My advice? Avoid Joe. read more

Stopped in recently to take a look at their road bike selection. Long story short, I went unacknowledged by all staff in the store for several minutes, and eventually was condescended to at length by an older gentleman employee when being shown the new bike stock, and was made to feel like an idiot because he refused to rephrase questions I did not understand, instead choosing to repeat them verbatim multiple times in a row after I indicated I wasn't following. Nice! Seriously bad vibes from this place and will never return again, which is a bummer since I recently moved to the area and am a five minute walk away. For what it's worth, I've had substantially better service and interactions with staff at the following locations (in no particular order): Baer, BikeSource, Paradise Garage, Revolution Cycles. I strongly advise saving yourself some time/grief and taking your business elsewhere. read more

I can't speak much for the actual bikes they sell, but their pieces and parts are in order. Decent prices for tires/tubes/tape etc., but the guys who work there are pretty big assholes. I mean I'm obviously not a bike genius, but I can't very well learn if the grizzled veterans of the bike world can't help me out. Basically, if you need to know something from the guys who work there, be persistent and they will eventually lighten up. Don't be afraid to ask direct questions to find out what you need to know, because you're not going to find out through small talk or a sales-pitch. All that said, I can't complain that they are strictly business. Just go in with a clear idea of what you want, or quiz the guys until you know what you need. Don't expect to be anything but uncomfortable if you go in to casually browse. read more

I bought my Schwinn Varsity at Once Ridden about six years ago, and I get nearly all of my maintenance done there. The staff always treat me very well, and they really know their bikes. They're honest when it comes to repairs and tune ups, and will try to get you a good deal on parts, if possible. Their selection of other items (helmets, locks, lubes, etc) might not be as impressive as other bike shops around town, but just how many different helmets do you really need to see before buying one anyway? They've offered to get certain items for me that they happened not to have. I'm a loyal customer, and for a good reason. They're slightly more expensive, but with these guys, you get what you pay for. read more

Cool bikes, but seriously rude. Scolded me for almost walking on newly waxed or mopped floors I presume. Silently haulted me with an awkward hand motion. Didn't make eye contact. Tried to ask them if they could help me figure out if I needed a new tire or new tube and they told me how to figure that on my own but were too short for me to process the information. I entered the store intending to purchase a bike lock, tire pump, and perhaps a new tire or tube, but I left feeling like they didn't want my measly 40 or 50 bucks. This seems like a decent shop to drop some money on a new or used bike or accessories, and maybe I caught them on a bad day (only my second visit), but i left feeling insulted. read more

This past summer, I stopped by Once Ridden Bikes with my brother to find us used bikes. I wanted to get him a bike so he'd have something in the fall to ride to school. We were both looking for fairly basic bikes for average trips of five to ten miles. We checked out the selection for easily 25 minutes without any acknowledgement of the staff. The guy at the counter didn't seem at all interested in helping us or making a sale. We each found a bicycle we liked and he finally strolled through and asked if we wanted them. I was pleased that the other guy didn't mind adjusting the height of my seat and replacing the missing reflector. However, their general attitudes were still pretty unpleasant, and I didn't feel at all enriched by their knowledge when I asked a few basic questions about whether our choices were appropriate for our intended uses. Unfortunately, only a few hours after purchasing the bikes, the pedal fell off of mine. Discouraged by the poor customer service, I decided not to return to Once Ridden Bikes to have them look at it and put the pedal back on. I purchased a bolt to put the pedal back on. Within an hour, the bolt and pedal fell back off. The piece on the bike is stripped, and I will have to get the pedal soldered on. This all was a slight disappointment, but I moved on. The real bummer occurred when my brother informed me shortly later that his brake lines went out. I am very dissatisfied by the customer service and quality of products I received at Once Ridden Bikes. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

These guys are great! They are very helpful, especially with regard to tips for having a bike on campus. They are also super friendly. What really impressed me is the way they worked with my brakes. They were squealing when I test rode the bike, and they fixed them right then. They said to just bring it in if I had any trouble. I brought it back because the rear brakes had been caught by someone else's bike on one of the racks on campus and the front brakes were still squealing a bit. Took 5 minutes and didn't cost me anything for him to adjust them. Again, he was super friendly and helpful. read more

These guys have a customer for life. I've been in a few times now and finally remembered to leave a review. I've been getting near constant flat tires and couldn't find the cause on my own. They found the tinniest little thing stuck in my tire that was causing wear and slow leaks on my tubes. They're always so friendly and welcoming and offer advice and options. read more

Whoever helped us out in the store was extremely rude and condescending lol I'm on a budget, as a lot of people are and while browsing through the store I asked if there was anything in the $100-$150, simple question (I'm not trying to be in the tour de France...just needed something in good shape to ride around town) He said that we should go to Walmart if we are looking for something in that price range and they couldn't run a business if they charged so little. I've gone into Once Ridden a few times now for various reasons, and they're a great bike shop. They have nice bikes but aren't pretentious. They're very helpful but won't try to push sales on you. They're definitely more "bike people" than "sales people"- so they aren't going to fawn all over you while you look at bikes, which I personally enjoy but I know might throw some people off. That said, they're also really friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. The selection of bikes vary. They always seem to have a decent number of new Fuji bikes, but I was looking at used bikes and at any given time they might have a ton of bikes, or not so many. That's pretty typical for a used bike place, since inventory depends on what people are getting rid of. I went in a few times while I was looking to purchase a new-to-me road bike, but there wasn't really anything that matched what I was looking for in my size. That said, there were plenty of things in other sizes that I could see. Ultimately I ended up finding a used bike that worked better for me elsewhere, but since then I've gone in to purchase bike accessories, and they always help me find something that works for me. Before buying my new-to-me bike, I purchased a new seat from them and they helped me get it set up to the right height, and even moved my handlebars up without me asking. I went in today because I had a pedal randomly fly off my bike, and Joe helped me get it back on there even though I initially thought I needed a new pedal. I appreciate bike shop people who don't push purchases that you don't need. I've noticed a few reviews have said that the guys there don't acknowledge them fast enough when they come in. While I love it here, I can see how people would feel that way. Like I said, the guys at Once Ridden seem to be more bike people than sales people, and they tend to let people look at bikes on their own. I personally appreciate it, but it's definitely different from the typical bike shop where a commission-based sales person follows you around trying to squeeze a sale out of you. The guys here aren't like that. I don't think it makes them less helpful though- if you ask, they'll answer any questions, suggest a bike for you, let you take a test ride, etc. Could they be outgoing and talkative? Maybe. But I personally care less about talkativeness and more about someone who knows their stuff, and will help me get what I need for my bike and get on my way- and that's what I get from Once Ridden. read more

I have been in search of a bike and this establishment pulled into my search. I decided to stop by and as my husband and I walked in one of the staff members clearly noticed us, he did not say a word to us. We brushed that off and started looking around the store. As the attendant passed us by (still without acknowledging us or speaking to us) my husband asked if they sold female bikes as we were sort of looking for some direction. With his back turned to us he yelled "everything we have is out there". This coupled with the lack of acknowledgement or help in general was a clear sign that we were not wanted in the store. We left and found a good bike elsewhere. I'm not one to think a red carpet needs to be rolled out for me when I enter a store, however the blatant rudeness and lack of basic customer service (someone speaking to you or trying to help you) prompted me to take time to write this review. Based on this experience and other reviews I now see, it appears that being forced to shop elsewhere was not so bad after all. People with such attitudes do not deserve our business and I only pray they learn how to treat people with basic respect in the future. read more

I used to live next door to this neat little bike shop. Small, but great. I found an old Concord at my mom's house that hadn't been ridden in decades so I took it to Once Ridden Bikes, unsure if it could be fixed. They gave it a tune up, put on some new tires, and it now it runs pretty well for an older model. I bought my helmet here, too. Bike riding on the Columbus streets was new and seemed dangerous to me, so I asked the owner for some advice before I took to the pavement. He was super friendly and willing to give insight to safety, what to look out for with the heavy traffic and listed a couple alternative bike paths to use. They also didn't mind when I came back a few months later to to use their pump to fill the tires with some air. Cool store! read more

The guy ignored what he said and led him straight to the new bikes and tried to sell him one that didn't fit his descprition at all. What a nice little bike shop. Went in here on a Wednesday early evening and was just thinking about a bike. The guy that helped me answered all the questions that I had and I took an easy ride down the street. Since a bike is a big investment and it was almost 6pm (when they close), I told them I would be back the next day to make my purchase. Out of all the bike shops in town they had very good products for a very good price. I went back the next day and picked up the bike! Though I personally knew I wanted a new bike, I went in with a friend who was more interested in used. While the guys there that day took a little extra time noticing us due to being very involved in a bike repair, once they did, they more than made up for their tardy start. My friend described what he wanted in a bike and what he was looking to spend on a used one and the older gentleman walked around with us and guided him to good choices. While neither of us wound up buying anything (they were pretty picked over by Pelotonia riders), I'll definitely be directing friends looking for used bikes there. read more

I love this place. I have always gone here for my bike and the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. I think it has been about 7 years I have come to this bike shop. They helped me put my new bike seat on that I bought from them free of charge! Many times they check out my bike and give me odd parts to help. I have been a customer of Once Ridden for about 3 years now. I am the owner of a used bike and would often go into the store for repairs and odds and ends such as a new seat. The staff always seemed too busy with their own work to be bothered with helping customers but they had the parts I needed and I live right down the street so I learned to deal with it. Although my past experiences with the store have been alright, my most recent visit was enough to prompt this review. I recently popped a tube and went in to have it replaced. Everything went smoothly and I got my bike back within a half an hour. I noticed while riding to work the next day that my brake was far more responsive that it had been before. At first I though this was great. Turns out that while replacing my tube the owner had tightened my brake cable as a favor. This seemed like a good thing until a truck braked in front of me. In response I braked hard and my cable snapped. This caused me to veer right and spill onto the sidewalk. Thankfully there were no serious injuries but the crash left me quite a bit spooked and angry. I still had to go to work so I couldn't get back to Once Ridden until the next day. I entered the store the next day and as per usual I was left alone for awhile. Once I was approached I told them the circumstances of my wreck. I then made it clear that I though the brake wire had broken in part due to the additional lever force of my brake handle in conjunction with a shorter cable. Now, I fully admit that the cause of the malfunction could have been due to many other things in addition to the recent service on my bike; however, the way I was treated after sharing my thoughts was unexpected. I was laughed at and told that there was no way the two events could be related. The older owner then proceeded to recant my story to another employee in a obviously mocking tone.. The older gentleman went on to say that he had worked on bikes for 40 years and how dare I connect his "favor" to my accident. The conversation got heated as both of us were noticeably upset. He cited a few other reasons that the cable could have broken all while demeaning my view of the event. Despite the fact the he may have been completely correct, the way that I was treated made me feel condescended, insulted and insignificant as a customer in his store. Believe it or not, I actually had them repair the broken cable (I had class that afternoon and didn't feel like walking 3 miles). The other owner Joe gave me a good price on the repairs and the labor cost was half of what the older owner had charged me for the replacement tube. I am not sure if I will be returning to Once Ridden, but should I need a repair in the near future I would be interested to see how their customer service is affected by our previous encounter. Should things go as they did today then my rating will remain; however, Joe's help near the end of this encounter was a redeeming touch and I would be willing to raise my rating should things improve. read more

we got a used bike for a good price. i will echo the sentiments of everyone else that no one is rushing to the door to welcome you when you walk in and they barely look up but they are busy fixing bikes. they had a small used bike collection that i imagine turns over quickly. they tossed in a discount on the helmet since we bought a bike. tune up seems comparable to other places in price around 50 bux. wouldn't hesitate to come back to take a look read more
