The food was incredible. It was interesting to hear how they use vanilla. I almost never order a grilled chicken sandwich because they're usually dry and boring, but this one was not. It was one of the best meals I've had this year. The tour portion was incredibly interesting. I learned so much about vanilla. All in all, I highly recommend this!

Now that the family's owner's kids have grown up and moved away. They have lucked out by hiring an incredible do- everything- tour guy named Zach, who is just so filled with knowledge about the history of vanilla and the botany and post harvest detail details of the vanilla. He gives a fabulous tour that is very engaging for everybody. Zach is also incredibly jazzed up about cooking with vanilla and he and his family live on the property and he has been on board with the Hawaiian Vanilla Company since 2023. The have just become so immersed in the vanilla. He shares his recipes and findings with you via email after the tour if you're interested. He also serves up the luncheon which for us included either a vanilla black tea, unsweetened, or a vanilla lemonade or an on Palmer of the two and a starter of a vanilla, gee infused popcorn, followed by a Kristine with vanilla Gar masala and some other vanilla spices with the shrimp and then the main courseteriyaki chicken thigh, marinated in a vanilla a brioche bond made with vanilla and a holy, made with vanilla a salad topped with a balsamic vanilla dressing and a bunch of candied vanilla pecans. After you do the vanilla tour return to the main building and enjoy coffee with vanilla and Kareem and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I had been using the other sauce of the vanilla starter kit that I purchased the last time I talked about 10 years ago and I was very happy to get more beans and some tips on starting a new batch. They have a huge variety of extract made with different types of alcohol that you can smell and they also sell of course they are double strength extract, which is the bomb, but I prefer to make my own cause then I gotta tell everybody I made my own from their beans. It did rain when we were there but they provide umbrellas and if you don't feel like walking about 3rd mile on the hill too the vanilla growing area you can't get a ride in that six seater gator back-and-forth. I highly I recommend this tour!!!

That alone meant so much. From the moment I arrived, Paul made me feel special. He greeted me with a warm smile, seated me at a beautifully decorated birthday table, and surprised me with a birthday sash and crown. It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly touched my heart and made me feel celebrated on my special day. I enjoyed fresh-squeezed orange juice and the Belgian waffle with bacon. The waffle was absolutely delicious--beautifully presented with fresh fruit and whipped cream, and honestly the best waffle I've ever had. A huge mahalo to Paul and his team for making my birthday so memorable. The food was outstanding, but it was the kindness, warmth, and genuine hospitality that made this experience unforgettable. 12/10 Highly recommend!

And you need a reservation. The tiny restaurant only has three two person tables (the other party of four had two pushed together). And it is only open Wednesday thru Saturday, 7:30am- 2pm. I made the reservation for my friend's Birthday lunch by text. It is conveniently located by the farmers market, and there is plenty of free parking in the area. The space is airy, and on our visit, decorated for Easter. We were immediately greeted by Paul. The restaurant is staffed by him, and one other employee. The menu is short, and all the better for it. Paul explained the menu and gave us recommendations. I was already interested in the Pasta de Marco, which appears to be a part of a regular menu. Angel hair pasta, lightly fried, tossed with fresh veggies and pesto, and lightly toasted baguette on the side. We also had the tuna, two ways, and papaya salad. Both were perfect, incredibly fresh, all ingredients balanced, beautifully presented. Paul had us end with the Belgium waffle. I've had waffles in Belgium, and these were the best I've had. Crispy, soft, with berries, whip cream, and powdered sugar, it didn't even need the (warm!) syrup. This experience felt like being a guest in the chef's home. Paul treated all customers as a friend, he was funny, relaxed, and personable. I also personally appreciated it is the safest restaurant for me to eat at as he hates bell peppers as much as I do! The only disappointment when the meal ended. Mahalo!

This coffee shop is located in a small plaza with a pizza place, taco spot, and Merriman's. The plaza itself has plenty of parking even when it's on the busier side on a weekend morning, so it's not hard to find a spot. Inside the cafe, there's a retail section that sells clothing and small goods, and a separate side to place your order and sit and enjoy your drink. The interior is bright and welcoming with a minimalist vibe, and even when we visited on a weekend morning, it was easy to find seating either indoors or outdoors. Service was wonderful -- we were helped promptly by staff, and my drink came out quickly. I got the black sesame latte with a chocolate chip cookie. I thought my drink was perfect, as the flavor of the black sesame was nutty, pleasant, and just the right amount of sweetness paired with the espresso. The cookie was on the softer/puffier side, and although it's not my preferred texture, it wasn't too bad! To sum up, I really enjoyed dropping by to get coffee here, and I feel like the quality of the drinks at Surf Camp is consistent across their different locations. I'll definitely come back if I ever find myself on Big Island for another trip!

IF I HAD A COFFEE SHOP, I WOULD HAVE IT SIMILAR TO THIS. I love the curated products (clothing, food, drinks, accessories, etc) and how it was laid out in the store. It's so cute. I love it. It was a nice and bright, clean shop. But let's really talk about the coffee. THE. COFFEE. OKAY. When I saw that they serve ONYX, did I die on the inside? ABSOLUTELY. I LOVE ONYX. Immediately, I ran out of the bar area looking for my sister because she and I are ABSOLUTELY HUGE fans of Onyx. Did we freak out? Absolutely. It was probably the best cup of coffee I've had while on the big island. It was amazing. I would GLADLY drive 30 minutes one way just for this coffee shop. This is the ONLY coffee shop I've found in the entire state that serves onyx. I hope they never stop.
