    Malasadas at breakfast
    Lizzie S.

Came here for brunch around Thanksgiving weekend and it was so busy! We had to wait, but of course the resort is great so we walked around and the time flew! They had free drip coffee for people waiting. I ordered a Muesli bowl and lilikoi juice, and someone else in our party got Eggs Benedict. We shared malasadas which were good but not great. Everything was fine, but not great (except for the ambiance and service.) Prices are high.

I cannot thank HaLani enough for the amazing birthday dinner experience we just had! The staff, service, ambiance and food were wonderful! Not only that, but they went above and beyond with a special request of mine. I brought in a watermelon and ask them to work their magic and turn it into something special. Never did I imagine that they would turn it into a full watermelon cake in such a short time! Thank you HaLani and our wonderful main waitress Cyn for such a special evening!

One of the best restaurants on the island. Maybe nationally. Great dinner. The pasta was amazing. Make sure to get the pasta shells with red sauce. Forgot the name of the dish. We added chicken to it. Drinks were phenomenal as well. -.5 stars since the Smores Deconstructed was wayyyy too sweet. But forgivable as it was probably a kids dish. Next time, probably would the server to avoid the chocolate sauce poured over the dish. Unnecessary and wasteful. But dinner, ambiance, and drinks more than made up for it. Would love to be back.

The best pancakes I've ever had. The view and friendly waitress made this my favorite meal on the Big Island. Accommodating to my gluten AND dairy allergy. Came back for lunch and had the opposite experience - just a breakfast destination!

Probably one of the best restaurants in the resort area. We got the brunch menu, smoked fish dip - our favorite, seared ahi salad, and blackened fish sandwich. For drink, I opted for the non alcoholic dragon fruit, yuzu and orange with soda. Loved the fish dip and ahi salad. Service was very attentive. The vibe was impeccable. Strongly recommend this restaurant if you stay in the area.

The view, the buffet food, the coffee...it's all perfection. The service is absolutely wonderful...everyone so friendly. The Buffett showcases local fruits, malasadas, various pastries, local fried rice, crispy potatoes (tater tots) / potato hash, various sausages, and perfectly crispy bacon. There is also an egg/omelette station where you can get freshly made to order eggs any way you want. To get an omelette, you choose the items you want in your omelette, load it up on a plate, and give it to the omelette chef. He was a wealth of information about the island while he cooked up the omelette. I love this restaurant and every time we come to the Big Island, we come here multiple times. It's worth it.

We absolutely LOVED everything about this beautiful place! The food was 10/10 delicious, the pizza, pastas and mixed hummus were outstanding as was the cheese dish. Lots of options for us as vegetarians and the waitress was very nice and accommodating of all our many questions. The views of the ocean are stunning and it was by far our best meal in Hawaii. Highly recommend this place!

    Appetizer with dips and pita

The first time we came here we were a little underwhelmed with the food, but gave it another chance and safe to say they did not disappointed! We got the grilled octopus and the prochiuto salad with pita they are both a must try! Especially the octopus. Ambience is amazing and the service is very good.

My family and I have been to Halani several times over the years and it was always solid, if not mind-blowing. However, on our most recent visit, we discovered that the chef had reinvented the menu by traveling to the Mediterranean and bringing back some serious Mediterranean chops. The dip trio and bread balloon - soft, warm, ridiculously stretchy, and perfect for dipping - was my favorite, but the chicken tagine was also incredible, with its saffron rice, fried chickpeas, and apricots. While it may seem a bit arbitrary to have Mediterranean food at a restaurant named Halani, I'm actually glad they shook things up because this was our best meal at Halani yet.

Spent some time at the beach at the resort here with my friends who live on the island. Loved it. After we got drinks at the bar. Riviera Spritz for me and some apps (charred shishito peppers and the shrimp ceviche). While the shrimp ceviche looked more like tuna, it was very good. Charlie was our server and super friendly and helpful. We decided to also get an early dinner. Split a bottle of prosecco with my friend. The 3 of us ordered the balloon bread and charred octopus as apps. I'm not a huge Mediterranean food fan so I ordered a couple of sides for my meal - potatoes brava, orzo, and grilled broccolini. My friends ordered the bucatini and ahi steak. Bob loved the ahi steak. We split the smores for dessert. For me, the best items were rather ceviche and the potatoes. Server was good. Ambiance pleasant. Loved the napkin ring holders.

This is a lovely restaurant at the Mauna Lani Auberge hotel. Ate here everyday for breakfast while on vacay. Breakfast is awesome. Great menu and great breakfast buffet ($55 pp). Loved the decor and drinking POG juice (and mimosas) evert morning. Dinner menu is Mediterranean with tasty dishes. Service was a little bit slow while we were there, but everyone was friendly which was nice. Long lines and waits to be seated for breakfast is the only real negative for me.

Lovely venue! And they can accommodate larger groups pretty easily it seems. We were a group of 8 for breakfast at 8:15am on a Friday. They were busy but were able to put a big booth together for us where we fit very comfortably. Our server was great! Half our table did the buffet ... $50 per adult and I think kids was $30 per kid. The others and I did a la carte... Which suited me fine since I don't care for buffets in general. Don't get me wrong.... The buffet here is good. They even have a made to order egg station. I had the shakshuka which was very tasty! Savory with perfect poached eggs and fantastic thick toast slices. Mom had the Haupia pancakes which were also very good since I got to snag a bite. Definitely will come back here when we find ourselves in the area again in the future.

Halani offers a breakfast buffet for $50 per guest, along with an à la carte menu. We had the buffet for three consecutive days and then tried the à la carte menu for a change. Unfortunately, the buffet menu was the same each day, which got a bit repetitive. The à la carte options weren't much better--it felt like they were just repurposed ingredients from the buffet. Service was inconsistent. On the first day, everything was great, but on the second and third days, we had to repeatedly ask for coffee refills and wait a long time for dishes to be cleared, even though it wasn't busy. One big downside was the flies. At the raw/charcuterie section, I noticed flies on the tuna sashimi, smoked salmon, salami, and beef carpaccio. They flew away when I approached but kept returning, which was pretty off-putting. Overall, nothing about the experience stood out as memorable. It was convenient since we were staying at the hotel, but it certainly didn't feel worth the $50 per person price tag.

Poke nachos - tasty but salty! And I love salt.

I haven't done a review in a while but I felt like one was due for this restaurant…read more I just want to say we have been to a lot of restaurants on the big island and some multiple times including the newly opened marlin bar. Consistency was key here and everything was on point. Service was excellent, food came out quick and hot, fresh and delicious. The prices were reasonable especially for the quality of food. We went to napua for the 2nd time and it was not as good. They raised their prices again so 62 for a plate of fish (mahi mahi with rice and green beans) and it was dry and lacking in flavor. Just for 3 of us it came to almost 200.00 you just pay for the ambience at that restaurant. We went to lava lava beach club and the prices went up and the food was terrible. Again your paying for the ambience their but there the pork was fatty, fish sandwich tasted like canned tuna and the pork sandwich idk it tasted like the smell of throw up. Ceviche was horrible and paid 30 dollars for a tiny tostada with some shrimp and fish that was super super fishy. This was the best place so far besides pono Hawaiian deli (poke spot best poke ever!!) or getting your own fish at the farmers market in Waimea I wanted to add this to highlight this particular restaurant. We ate here 4 times (3 dining and once to go) and all the times it was so good. We got the island waygu burger it was cooked perfect and seasoned well, we ordered the coconut shrimp this was delicious, we ordered fish and chips (lightly breaded not overly oily or fried it was light airy and crispy), we ordered the corn dip and this was surprisingly refreshing with their homemade chips, order the hot chicken sandwich and wow this was lightly panko breaded and it was not overly hot and spicy everything paired well with it, also got the regular waygu burger and it was again cooked perfect and exploded with flavor. Finally tonight came back on our last night and I ordered the kona kampachi, wow wow wow it was cooked to perfection (finally a restaurant that can cook fish correctly and not over cook it) the miso butter worked perfectly and the portion was huge!! And only for 36 dollars like com on. My wife got the mahi mahi fish tacos and that was delicious with the lime cream sauce. All the nights we went there never broke 100 dollars and that says something in Hawaii and it literally beats every other restaurant so far for the price, ambience and quality of food. Consistency was key please if you're reading this owner or chef of this restaurant please stay this consistent!! Thank you!!

For starters, there's no reservations - walk ins only but we've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table for lunch or dinner. Our first time visiting was for Mother's Day Lunch and it was delightful. We started with the steak flatbread which was soooo delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired with delicious carmelized onions and arugula and the flat bread was a perfectly balanced crunch and doughiness. Then we shared the mahi mahi tacos, honey chicken sandwich, and chopped salad with fillet which were all incredible. Nothing was a miss! Our second time coming back during our vacation was for dinner, which had some new additions to the menu such as the shrimp garlic noodles which were an excellent blend of umami and richness that melts in your mouth.

Kabob was our main with hummus for the appetizers. We ended up not ordering enough for the main because I think when I'm sitting down you can't tell I'm 6'8" 220lbs and they advertise their meals as shareable. If you eat a lot, the kabobs aren't shareable. Pay attention at the desert layout; we decided to go with the unhealthy route which was to top off with some sweets instead of ordering more mains . The frozen milk cake for me was it even though they pushed the pavolova as the one. The smores is pretty average tasting s'mores but definitely a luxury version so I'd never say don't get it, I'd just say it's obtainable elseware if you're trying to decide on a space you might not visit again. The service was also on par with the establishments well earned reputation and they also had eats for our 3 year old (pizza, which somehow he ate the entire serving of and threatened me if I tried some). 5 star experience

TLDR: Lounge area…read morenear the "lobby" of the Fairmont Orchid resort. Since it overlooks the rest of the resort, it's the perfect place to rest and relax during the day. They start serving Japanese-inspired foods starting 5 pm and they have nightly live music starting around 6 pm. Food was fine, nothing special, but the ambiance was wonderful and the nightly torch lighting + conch shell blowing at sunset happens on this balcony. ------ FOOD: * Smash Burger (4/5): Came with two patties and a slight skirt on the meat. Was a little simple though (i.e. no lettuce or tomatoes, though did come with one deep-fried onion ring and cheese). Fries were pretty good! * Luana Roll (4/5): This is their signature roll and I thought it was good but wasn't anything special. Probably not worth $30. * Double Crunch Roll (4/5): Again, good roll but nothing special and didn't particularly love it. ------ SERVICE: * Fine service, though the waiter took a long time to check in on our table. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a problem, but it was strange. * Note that their kitchen is not located nearby and so the waiter has to go to a kitchen downstairs before bringing the food up. That means that service can be a little slower at times. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Really nice ambiance. It's a balcony right off the main lobby where you check-in, and there are lots of comfy lounge chairs and small tables to match. The lobby and the lounge are both technically on the 3rd floor of the resort, so you can overlook the rest of the resort including the pool, beach, and ocean. * The live music at night is nice, both if you're dining at the lounge or just returning to the lobby area after a long day out. * There's also an indoor bar area next-door to the lounge with a pool table. The pool accessories are in rough shape (only 1 usable pool stick) but anyone is able to set up the table and begin playing. Despite being here during the holidays, this table was surprisingly available for most of our stay. * Every night there's a traditional Hawaiian ceremony where torches are lit at sunset and someone blows a conch in all directions. The conch blowing happens on this balcony, so if you're seated at the lounge around 5 pm, you'll have great seats of the short ceremony.

We came on a windier day, and the tiki torch kept getting blown out. The one closest to us was gushing out gas without a flame, and left an extremely heavy gas smell. We asked if they could relight it, and the first person said they'd get maintenance over right away. 20 minutes later, and getting lightheaded from the gas, I asked if they could turn it off if they couldn't relight it. The staff started getting defensive which I didn't understand, and told us that we were being unreasonable since the area wouldn't be lit up if there was no torch. I kept explaining to her that the torch was out, so we don't get the light anyways, but she wasn't listening to our concerns. Eventually another staff member came by, immediately understood, and finally turned off the gas for us so we weren't getting smothered by the odor. We ordered two cocktails and a spicy Kanpachi roll. The cocktails were mediocre, and one of them was not what we ordered. My wife asked for a blended cocktail and ended up with a drink on ice. The kanpachi roll was below average, with soggy seaweed and loosely rolled where it was falling apart while eating. I would skip on this lounge if you're looking for a place to eat and maybe even for skip and go elsewhere for drinks. We only tried one sushi roll, but after our experience we didn't intend on ordering anything else.
