We live local and wanted to try this place. Went Sunday morning for breakfast and was pretty crowded. Seated us right away but waited a long time since we were in the far back room. That was ok we expected to wait. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, classic egg Benedict and chicken and waffles. All looked delicious when our plates arrived. Unfortunately all plates lacked seasoning on all levels. Hollindaise sauce was so bland and the gravy and potatoes had no seasoning or flavor. It's almost like the kitchen forgot to season anything. We assumed the biscuit would be good (because the place seemed all about the biscuit) but instead the biscuit was not flaky and more of a bread consistency which we didn't expect. So all in all the food was sub par. The service and waitresses were all very nice. Service was slow, but again, not our concern. It was more about the taste. We really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, the hostess came off as really rude, when we first approached, she just said "can I help you?" in a cold way, and when we asked how much longer the wait would be, she just replied "I'll call you" without much explanation. After years, it is wonderful to finally have a good breakfast place in Waikoloa again. This place took the spot of a beloved restaurant that closed up over the past year at the top end of Queens marketplace. While this doesn't have the same scenery of some of the other breakfast places I enjoy on island, it is much closer and so it is a very welcome addition to my eating experience on the big island. For my breakfast, I had the Pua'a which is a biscuit with gravy that has Portuguese sausage and Kahlúa pig. I got a side of their meat fried rice, and all of it was delicious. I had a good sized portion and could easily shared my breakfast. For my cocktail I had the Kai Tai which should be thought of as a Mai tai with coconut rum and a delicious foam. On our very first visit, we had excellent service. The food was tasty with local flair, zero wait (at 10am), and the friendliness of the staff & owner was awesome. It's a new eatery and a blessing in the Waikoloa area as places like this are far & few in between aside from hotel restaurants with mediocre food. However our second visit wasn't anything like the first. The service was pretty bad. No wait time again but the waitress had to be called and reminded several times. For ordering, for drinks forgotten, for condiments, etc. that it took much longer than necessary to be done with breakfast. Very unacceptable. The food was again great. We had 'The Pua'a', the Kalua Pork Benedict, and Mac Nut Coconut Waffle The Pua'a and the Kalua were tremendous and the waffle was stupendous. The waffle was cooked just perfectly, and was a little on the sweet side. The kicker was the pure maple syrup. I wish I would have taken photos before but we were starving and dove in. Food was amazing, truly the best breakfast we had on our trip. My wife had the big breakfast plate and the pork was amazing, juicy, full of flavor and the right amount of salt. I had the Kamuela chicken fried steak, biscuit and fried rice...carb overload ha ha. Loved the bacon in the fried rice, gravy excellent and prices reasonable for the area. In the Queens shop area, for us a great stop on the way out of the resort area. Would highly recommend, add this place to your list. I also had a great conversation with the owner, loved hearing about the history of the recipes, cooking methods and clear passion for this. I've never gotten whiplash from a meal but I'm gonna need a neck brace after experiencing lunch service here because I'm confused and maybe even a bit bamboozled? Everything seemed good when we arrived. The photo collage on top of the table kept us pretty entertained. It was cool to see some vintage Hawaiian media displayed prominently. Each table has a different collage, giving off the impression that they were all curated with a lot of care. Service started off friendly. We had a tough time deciding what to order since the menu is quite large and the font on the menu is quite small. From a design perspective, the menu is busy and overwhelming. They also need to streamline and simplify the menu options, particularly since they're just getting started. We ordered the Honeybird Benedict, Oxtail Soup, and the Hilo Chicken Crunch Salad, which is their ONLY salad option on the entire menu. I wouldn't normally mention that we also ordered chicken tenders from the keiki menu, but bear with me... After we placed our order, it took 40 minutes for the food to arrive. That's when service took a turn for the unexpected. Before we could even put the food in our mouths, the staff immediately checked in to see how we were enjoying everything. Girl idk, you just put this stuff in front of us, can I at least taste it first?! The check ins kept happening every two minutes and it kinda started to feel like we were being rushed. Anyway, the food was decent. The hollandaise on the Honeybird Benedict was pretty addictive, especially with their biscuit. But we ordered chicken tenders for a child that looked like it was just an extra piece of burnt chicken from the benedict dish. It was a single piece of chicken that was too dry and too thick for a toddler to eat, and it didn't even really look like a chicken tender. I was under the impression that chicken TENDERS meant plural, so I was surprised it was just a singular piece of chicken. Don't bother ordering the oxtail, I'm not even sure why they offer it. The oxtail had no flavor and the stock was watery. The Only Salad On The Menu was pretty good! The chicken was a lot more tender than the chicken tender (lol) and the dressing was yummy. After we were finished with our entrees, we wanted to see the dessert menu. I guess we were asking too many questions because our previously friendly waitress began to despise us. We ordered the sundae and she couldn't tell us what flavor ice creams were included. She actually walked off mid-sentence as we were asking her. It took 15 minutes for 3 scoops of ice cream to arrive at our table and they were already melting. She still couldn't tell us what the ice cream flavors were. I'm also confused about the "sundae" aspect of the dish, as we were literally presented with 3 melted scoops of different ice cream flavors. No whipped cream, no nuts, no sauces. It was so sad and disappointing that it was more of a Monday than a Sundae tbh. By the end of our service, the staff were treating us like an inconvenience. To be clear, it wasn't even closing time and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I started to feel weird and wanted to leave immediately. I thought some of the other menu items looked fun, but I'm not sure they're worth returning for. As much as we'd love to see this place thrive, they just opened and there's too much going on. There are so many amazing food options on the Big Island. Kona Biscuit isn't exactly screaming "pick me, choose me, love ME." There needs to be SOMETHING differentiating them from all of the other great options and we're just not sure they're there yet. For example, why even offer oxtail if your recipe doesn't even come close to the quality you'd get from other local spots? It certainly doesn't help that they hated us by the end of service for some reason. We're usually polite patrons who enjoy tipping well when the service is worth it. Yes! They have gluten free options! Looking to enjoy a delicious gluten free pancake? Well look no further. They have the best gf pancake I've ever tried at a restaurant! Their hollandaise sauce is the real deal, no powder or watered down sauce. You can taste the butter! Came here on the last day of our sister's trip to the Big Island. Food was delicious and they make everything from scratch. They even made special gf potatoes just for me. Matthew the owner is nicest guy, came over to check on us and brought me complementary gf pancake. In the evening the restaurant transforms into an elegant steak house. We had a late flight so made reservations to go back for dinner. No regrets. Absolutely amazing food! We were all very impressed with presentation, quality and how good every one of our dishes were. We noticed that Kona Biscuit had macadamia nut waffles on their menu, so we popped in for what we thought would be a quick breakfast. Yikes! Even though we were seated almost immediately, it took nearly an hour to receive our food. And how were the waffles? Mediocre, I'd say. The were certainly large enough, and were well cooked. Unfortunately, they were absolutely buried in thick coconut syrup. Although they called it "coconut syrup" it was much thicker than any syrup I've had before. It was more the consistency of paste, and I thought it lacked coconut flavor and was way too sweet. If you're Jonesing for some macadamia nut waffles, you should be able to do better elsewhere. If you're stuck in Waikoloa Beach Resort without a car, though, this is the best (only) choice. read more

Ordered the lilikoi ricotta pancakes with lilikoi butter against our waitresses recommendation as she said it is not enough for a meal, more like small bites to share. I should have listened, 3 small thin pancakes for $17 served with maple syrup instead of lilikoi syrup?? Odd! Breakfast can be difficult to get right because everything has to come up at the same time, but wow, I was blown away by the attention to detail and precision of the dishes.
