Heard good things about this place but was a little disappointed. It's an outdoor counter, so you order and then pick up your food and can find seating by the pond. Tried the fish and chips, fried oysters, and the coconut shrimp. Everything comes with either rice or fries and coleslaw. Fish was the best thing, but it wasn't amazing. The fried oysters were fine and the coconut shrimp was lacking flavor even with the sauce. The fries were crispy which was nice. Service is straightforward, not super helpful to tourists given that it is in a touristy area, the Kings Shops, which is right across from a lot of resorts.

A tasty spot for fried fish but not earth shattering. We ordered Fried Oysters, Coconut Shrimp, Fish & Chips, and the Fish Tacos. Nicely fried. I wasn't a fan of the tartar sauce-- the mayonnaise overpowered the other flavors which are the hallmark of a good tartar sauce. I liked the coconut shrimp the best. There is outdoor seating right outside of the ordering counter. It can get a bit chilly though as it is on the water and windy. Overall, I would recommend Island Fish & Chips, but certainly not a necessity on my Big Island restaurant list. I would eat her again, but I would not seek it out.

This is one our favorite places on the Big Island- or any Island. Maybe the best fish tacos in the world. I obviously haven't had all of them- but they are in my top 3 all time. Soooo gooood! The Volcano Shrimp is amazing too and craveable. Perfect heat level. Not to spicy, but enough kick to wake you up. Tried the calamari today. Also fantastic. The crust was like a great onion ring. The cocktail sauce was delicious too. I know this is an out door lunch counter, but it is some of the best food in Waikoloa!

    Love this hot malt vinegar!

This place was the only place in the resort area I enjoyed. Actually the whole family enjoyed. Small family owned business that faces the pond so you get to enjoy your meal in tranquility. It's Asian owned so there are hints of Asian thoughtfulness everywhere: the green tea, the spice counter, and frying things tempura style.

We were staying at the resorts that are walking distance to this restaurant. This was located in a shopping center that had plenty of parking and other options for food as well as shops. We came here twice because of how much we enjoyed this place! We had the coconut shrimp (picture included). With it comes a side of pineapple cole slaw and two scoops of rice. The second time we came, we had the fish tacos, which came with a side of tortilla chips. Both were delicious and fulfilling! You order at the booth and pay. You then take a ticket, and they will call your name when your meal is ready. Be sure to keep your ticket so you can turn it in when picking up your food. There was public seating just right across from its booth, overlooking the water and surrounding nature.

The fried oyster were not fresh when but intent it was mushy. The fried fish was better and the fried calamari rings was okay. The french fries were good but overall it is an average place I like that we sit outdoors.

Drove here from Kailua Kona just for the fresh fish and chips and was not disappointed. The restaurant is a walk up style place but they do have outdoor seating nearby. I went for the shrimp and fish both breaded with fries, tartar sauce and extra lemon slices. The fish was amazing and very fresh. Same for the shrimp. Ordering was a little confusing and they did come across a bit rude because apparently you can't order two of the same thing on their two item option which isn't clear on the menu. Nonetheless, I would return and I still think about this spot.

Hidden gem find at the King's Marketplace. It's located on the back side overlooking the lake. Nice outside spot to eat and look out over the water. Order at a counter/window, easy peasy and pick up at the same place. Food is really solid! Fish and chips were flaky and well fried with good flavor. Would definitely go back!

Delicious fish and chips, shrimp shumai, fish tacos and calamari! The service was excellent and super fast! Sit out under the gazebo and enjoy the sunset and calm pond view. Located directly across from the waikoloa beach Marriott

one of the highest rating in the area. located by the pond. it's basically a shack that you grab and go and find yourself a table nearby in the pavilion by the lake. not much a service and you can't really see sunset either. just a quick eat will be fine. i had the combo fish and oyster combo, only two fish fingers and three oysters, so basically pay more but less food, the fish only has 3 pieces of fish , and they take out one piece and replace with 3 oysters but adding more money. i dont think it's a good deal. the chips are crispy but i dont think the oyster is very fresh. it has a strange taste to it. the fish is flaky and flavorful.

I really struggled communicating with the cashier. We ordered the the 3 choice with fries and I chose two fish and 1 calamari. She kept typing 2 choice with fish and calamari. After some back and forth she finally said one order of fish comes with 2 pieces. However I said I wanted 2 orders of fish, so 4 pieces, but she got confused. Then I just said screw it and ordered 3 different things because she couldnt understand how to pick the same choices even though I can see it on her computer. We also ordered a volcano shrimp It was moderately priced. The fish were good size for 1 order but 2 calamari rings for 1 order was ridiculous. They gave plenty of sauce though. The volcano shrimp was not volcano at all. Just a mild mayonaised based dressing.

Some highlights include the seared ahi starter, which came bathing in a delicious creamy sauce. The sauce was novel and a nice spin on an already delicious dish. The ono was also done nicely. I have to dock them a little on their steak. With steakhouse pricing, they weren't able to produce a solid steakhouse crust on the ribeye. Without a crust, the cut ended up a little floppy and watery. The desserts were also a little off. The sauce on the passion fruit cheesesteak was amazing, but the texture of the cheesecake itself wasn't great. Their mint ice cream was also a little freezer burned. Overall you can have a good time here, but I think the pricing puts the restaurant into the elite league, and I don't think they're quite ready to play there.

There are a few Hawaiian rums that we like, but the Kuleana rums fall short. They are heavy on alcohol and light on flavor. It seemed as though the bartenders were not all that well versed in their own rums or mixology in general. As for the food, we ordered the pork and watercress gyoza and the crab rangoon. Both were lacking flavor and substance...not made better by the lackluster, flavorless dipping sauces. To be honest...I've had better from the grocery store freezer section. The restaurant itself is pleasant enough with a nice bar and the ability to accommodate larger parties. We ended up hopping across the street to have some great cocktails and appetizers and Roys.

We saw from Yelp photos that Canoe House offered a tasting menu at some point in time, but during our visit, it was more of an impromptu tasting menu of sorts -- created by our server, rather than an official one with a set beverage pairing. In any case, we still had a wonderful experience ordering items a la carte. Before diving into the food, I wanted to call out the outstanding service at Canoe House. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and our server started and ended the meal with a round of congratulations. Throughout our meal, our server was super attentive and there was never a moment when our water cups were empty. Empty plates were promptly cleared, cutlery was refreshed when it was needed, and whenever a dish was brought over, he would carefully slide things around on the table so dishes were accessible and not overcrowding. Friendly, professional service of this level is honestly hard to find these days outside of Michelin dining establishments. My wife and I started our meal off with the large loaf of pull-apart milk bread ($18). The milk bread was incredibly fluffy and the outside was finished with some honey and sea salt. The sweet cream butter was rich and had the perfect spreadable consistency. As tempting as it is to want to finish the loaf, you'll definitely want to safe your stomach for the rest of the meal. The next items that we ordered were two chilled oysters ($7/piece), and a hamachi + uni citrus salad ($14). Since we were dining as a couple, our server informed us that we could actually order half-portions of some of the dishes. This was a perfect way to not fill-up before our mains arrived, so we did that for both the salad and the gyozas. The uni in the salad was melt in your mouth tender and had a delicious sweetness to it. I thought the hamachi in the salad was a bit unremarkable: it was certainly fresh and there were two generously sized pieces in the dish, but the fish definitely needed a bit more salt to it. Our next and last appetizer to arrive was the beef and foie gras gyoza ($7/piece). The chili garlic ponzu sauce the gyoza is resting leans towards the sour side, but that's my personal preference when it comes to dumpling sauces so I really enjoyed it. The filling inside the gyoza was on the leaner side compared to your typical pork and cabbage dumpling, but I didn't mind this too much since there was so much sauce in the bowl to accommodate the dumpling. The next four items we ordered all arrived together: the garlic fried rice ($32), the Kona kanpachi ($67), the Iberico char siu pork ($65), and the side of sugar snap peas ($22). Of these items, my favorite bites were the Iberico pork followed closely by the garlic fried rice and the sugar snap peas. If we could've ordered one fewer dish, it definitely would have been the Kona kanpachi. While the fish was flakey tender and the the skin was cooked to be perfectly crunchy, the portion size was far too large for two, and I thought the coconut ginger sauce felt a bit diluted and not as flavorful as advertised. I wish our server warned us that we had ordered way too much food, because we brought 85% of this dish home as leftovers. While I don't necessarily mind having leftovers, having leftovers on vacation -- with less than ideal heating methods available (i.e. hotel microwave), is not great. Overall, I couldn't help but feel this dish was somewhat a waste of money for the two of us. On the other hand, the Iberico char siu is a dish I'd order again and again if I were to come back. The pork was lean and grilled to perfection. The charred end pieces were some of my favorite bites of the night. I didn't miss the fatty bits that are typically present on a piece of char siu pork, and the mustard that accompanied the dish was not over the top spicy like some of the mustards you find at dim sum restaurants. The garlic fried rice was packed with so much garlic flavor. One criticism I had with the dish though is I wish the hot sizzling plate the dish was served on was even hotter. The rice that was in contact with the plate didn't crisp up in the same way that it would with a Korean bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl, or the socarrat at the bottom of a Spanish paella. Nonetheless, the dish was well-seasoned. If you want to save a bit on carbs and not fill up, you might want to skip this dish. Overall, the dining under the stars experience at Canoe House is hard to beat. The service is incredible, the included validated valet parking experience is seamless, the ambience of the hotel where the restaurant is located is breathtaking, and Chef Rhoda has really done an wonderful job with the vast majority of the items we tried. I would not hesitate to recommend Canoe House for celebrating a special occasion if you're visiting Hawaiʻi.
