There's not much parking in front so you might have to get a little creative. We waited for 35 minutes for a table of 6 and were one of the last ones seated. It seemed fine until we realized they were slipping on the service. My uncle didn't get his tossed salad with his tripe stew but no biggie, and my son's kids meal that was only pancake, bacon, and an egg was the last to get to the table. Everyone was eating and trying to share their food with my hungry son who was in tears after waiting another 30 minutes for his food. They were very apologetic and our server (like everyone there) was SUPER sweet, and even brought him extra bacon for the inconvenience. I could see there were regulars in there who were getting better attention than us, it happens, which was kind of a disappointment in the service area. The large table sat after us all had their food rolling out the kitchen as soon as they ordered. The food was still great, very homey, and delicious as always. The place was nice and breezy due to a storm coming in soon. All in all a great place to come eat, just come earlier I guess so all the good stuff doesn't get 86'd before you get there...my uncle was looking forward to the lamb ribs but there's always next time and for this place, there's always a next time!!! This is the quintessential breakfast spot on the Big Island. A little off the beaten path between Kona and Hilo but absolutely worth it to anyone that's on the island for any amount of time. Pretty classic diner vibes with the kitchen right next to the seating. The staff is super friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. The food is an absolute 10/10. The banana macadamia nut pancakes are simple and I guarantee you can't replicate it at home, one of those black magic dishes that seems easy but is just that much better from here. Fluffy on the inside but a nice chew on the outside with fresh bananas and Mac nuts. The gravy on the hamburger steaks and loco moco is so rich and well-rounded, absolute flavor bomb. There are so many mac salad options out here but this one takes it back to basics and does it right. Nothing overpowers the other ingredients and the addition of potatoes adds a great texture. Been craving for a loco moco since arrived in Hawaii and I was determined to try this place out with its high reviews so that even when it said cash only, I spent 4 bucks to get 20 bucks out of the atm machine they had on site. I ordered the loco moco but was really disappointed when their loco moco was delivered to the table. The gravy was sweeter than expected and too thick. The hamburger patty was not cooked thoroughly, and the juice made the rice a reddish color. Maybe I should have been clear about well done... but, suffice it to say I did not really enjoy the meal. Even if the meat was cooked thoroughly the taste was not enjoyable. To be fair, I should have pointed this out to the manager but was in a hurry to get to my next destination. read more

Very large portions. Very quick service. It is a fast paced small diner like restaurant. Feels like you're eating at family's house. I got the Loco Moco that had 3 different meats, and honestly I could've just had the original. The gravy could use some seasoning and the meat was a tad dry but overall it was an okay dish. I also ordered one of the Coconut cream pancakes and boy oh boy was that pancake huge! I would have been okay just getting the pancake without the topping because it was tooo much making the pancake soggy. The pancake batter had a weird gummy taste to it but I will still order it because the fluffiness was unmatched. This place is so good. Got a large loco moco to split and but was it so good and large. Half a papaya is a must anywhere I go in Hawaii. Our server was great and so friendly. However, the second time I came back with 45 min prior to closing, they didn't take anyone else. When I asked how early we needed to check-in next time, the response was vague and a bit rude. So I wasn't thrilled about that. Not dinging them for that though. So check/in early event pre-farmers market shopping is the lesson we got from that. after 6 years we finally made it back for my much improved breakfast experience. And redemption for my terrible ordering the first time...after a 30 minute wait ( normal for here it's always busy and worth it ) only open until1pm ... a typical hawaiin meal ... after deliberating the many combinations available, and a little valuable help from our waitress, I ordered the 2 egg , hash browns, with a choice of side i got the yummy sweet french toast (2 pieces) and bacon! a feast fit for a very hungry me . it did not disappoint!! This was the last stop on my trip and honestly probably the best stop. I literally couldve taken a nap in their benches if it was allowed. Two big rooms for tables make the restaurant a great place for small or large parties. The food is always incredible. We had 11 people today and everything was great. I can't say enough how we loved this place. The food was excellent and came along with a calm and bright vibe inside. We got the short ribs, furikake chicken, and Korean style thin pork. All were really good, and came with the best Mac salad I've ever had. The pork was our favorite of the 3 choices. With all that said, the staff really completed the meal for us. They were attentive and friendly during service, but they really went over and beyond with caring for my daughter that wasn't feeling very well, and ensured she was ok before we left. We found out about this restaurant in Hilo, then found out that this one was the main one. Negatives: -none Positives: -prices/value, the amount of food they give you is well worth the price and more. Everything on the big island is bigger. Definitely the Texas of the islands. -taste, everything we got was good. The item worth mentioning the most was the galbi. Definitely one of the best I've had. The food and service was great, but I could taste a difference in quality having just had the same Mok-a-saurus three days prior at the Hilo location .
