This was on my list of must tries during our weeklong vacation on the Big Island. How cute was our first impression. The footprint reminded us of a farmhouse. We were greeted and seated immediately. Known for the best BBQ on the island; however the three of us didn't have BBQ. We did order the special- double fried baby back ribs as a starter. Delicious fall off the bone finger licking. Came 4 to a plate. Lunch entrees - * hubby got the hot pastrami burger. * daughter & I ordered fish & chips. The fish was mahi mahi. Battered and fried fresh. The fries not good. Very limpy like it had been sitting awhile. This being our first full day we felt like indulging in everything suggested. We also ordered drinks & dessert. My lava flow was great. The family had Bloody Mary's. The chocolate cake was decadent. It was very generous slice. So much so that we took most of it to go. Parking is available on the property.
Great spot for BBQ and more in Waimea. The menu was large and diverse, with both sea and land options. The ambiance was cool because you enter in the front and leave in the back. It also has a homey feel to it all. The portions were good sized and the value was fair for Hawaii. We had brisket mac (good and heavy), pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, and fresh ono platter blackened (excellent). The brisket was very good as you would expect! The host was very friendly, however our waitress was not very kind. We all have bad days though and it is a tough job. Overall, worth checking out on the Big Island and food was very good. I loved the vibe and it is a hidden gem.
We live on Oahu but the last two years we've flown to Kona for a staycation. Two years ago we discovered this restaurant and this year, as soon as we landed, we headed there. We arrived about half an hour after they opened and only had to wait about 10 minutes for our party of 7 to be seated. The restaurant was full and stayed that way the entire time we were there. We knew from our visit last year that everything here was really good. We didn't do any pupus this year only because last year when we did we had way too much food. My honey and I shared the platter again, as we did last year, and it came with two sides plus pulled pork, brisket, a rib, and their homemade sausage. I also got a side of their cornbread because it's so good. My nephew got the cheeseburger and that was actually a very good burger. There was a lot of flavor in the meat. Will be there again next year when we go back for our staycation. Definitely a must try if you're in the area or even if you have to drive an hour like we did.

The daily tater tots were fine but weren't hot, and all of the meat in the BBQ sampler plate was so dry that I only ate a few bites. The onion soup was heavy on peppers and not good. There were, however, two things I enjoyed: the cornbread and the banana cream pie. I wouldn't come back for the BBQ, but the banana cream pie was so delicious and a huge portion. I recommend ordering it to go for dessert.
Everything we ate here was delicious and perfectly cooked. Wr really enjoyed the house made sausage, ribs and brisket with the house made lilikoi BBQ sauce. The sausage was so good we ended up ordering another link! The shrimp was super crispy and light. I'm a big fan of corn bread and was not disappointed. Friendly service. Plenty of parking. Good portions. Calories well spent.
Amazing! Busy busy restaurant with long wait times especially during peak dinner hours. Service is friendly and has a nice little small town Hawaiian country feel. Food is awesome and dessert is even better. The brisket Mac and cheese was sooo good. It was very creamy and delicious. Their baked beans are pretty good too. It's different and had kidney beans. Their brisket is super tender and very flavorful. The banana cream pie is excellent and must try if it's available. The macadamia nuts in the crust is next level. The chocolate cake was rich but yummy!
At the recommendation of someone I follow on social media, I had to make this a stop while on the Big Island. The recommendation was valid. Food was excellent. The service top notch. The atmosphere casual and welcoming. I started with the daily tots. Daily tots were tots covered in pesto, bacon and melted cheese. Oh so good. Generous portion which could easily be shared. I asked the server for food recommendations before placing my meal order. There were a few sampler type options I was admiring. Turns out these were on the recommend list. I ordered the brisket sampler with grilled pineapple and coleslaw. The brisket was fork tender and perfectly cooked. I liked the grilled pineapple with paprika (?) on it. The coleslaw was not to my liking. It didn't have a mayo base which is my preference. Decent portion size. Lastly, I did order dessert, coconut cake. Huge piece of cake. I could only eat part of the slice so took the rest home for later. It was just as good on round two Definitely a good place for bbq. Visit hungry!
We decided on the BBQ Sampler Plate (brisket, sausage, ribs, and pulled pork) to be able to try a variety of the meats! It was flavorful and well-seasoned. There are dipping sauces on the table too. Glad we got the sweet potato fries and the baked beans per recommendation of the hostess. It was enough food for 2.

Sweet potato fries, beans, and pickled veggies were also included. I loved the sausage and the ribs because they were so flavorful, soft, and tender. The pulled pork and brisket were a bit dry. The sweet potatoes fries and the beans were really good. Overall, really enjoyed the food and the service.
Best service! Greeter was so friendly and filled with Aloha. Smokehouse salad was ono! Coming back again!

I had the fish tacos, which were fresh and well-seasoned, and sampled some of the BBQ--tender, smoky, and legit. But the real star? The banana pudding cake. Easily one of the best desserts I've ever had. Light, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. Laid-back atmosphere, friendly service, and seriously good food. Definitely a must-stop in Kona.

The sampler was a great way to enjoy the bbq. The mahi mahi was cooked to perfection with a nice sauce that complimented the fish with veggies. We did enjoy The Fish and The Hog, it's worth the trip out here.
Came by here last month on our drive up to Waimea and really enjoyed the food!! Service was friendly too. Sweet potato fries were sooo good. Tried all the sauces and they were all delicious. Parking is in the back lot, it's a good idea to come when they open to beat crowds but there's plentiful seating inside. read more

Food 5/5 Strawberry Lemonade $9 - Yum! Absolutely delicious. Lava Flow $16 - Tasty and delicious. Spicy Poke Bowl $26 - Just okay, nothing special about it. The flavor wasn't kicking nor was it really that spicy at all. BBQ Sampler Plate w/ fries & grilled pineapple $37.95 - Good price point for a sampler. We've eaten a ton of BBQ around the US and the brisket was one of my favorites. The ribs had a sweetness I really enjoyed. Reuben Spring Rolls $16 - Not pictured but loved them! Chocolate Cake $12 - Since it was my actual birthday, my partner wanted to get me a slice of cake but boy are they huge. It was absolutely delicious but we had to take it to go. I would recommend they have smaller slices as eating a ton of BBQ and devouring a huge slice of cake is due for a heart attack. Ambiance 5/5 Got a nice table by the window minus the horsefly. Service 3/5 The lady who sat us and took our drink orders is extremely sweet and friendly. Our service was just okay, she didn't really add to our experience as if there was something on her mind. read more

I couldn't imagine finding BBQ of this quality on the Big Island. The Reuben was absolutely delicious, and the brisket was on par with some of the best I've had in Texas. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. We really enjoyed dining here and would definitely come back. read more

Dang we took friends last night and it was disappointing. Super bummed. Brussel sprouts were soooo salty. Mozz sticks blah and only 5 sticks for $15. I usually love the smoke house salad but last night I don't know. I didn't even eat it. Water glasses went dry. read more

Tamara seated us and is a sweet Disney princess that speaks Mandarin! It was so nice to practice with her. Even though she wasn't our server, she stopped by to chat when she had free time. While they may be known for BBQ they have a lot more to offer! The service is always a 10 and the ambiance is upbeat and casual. It's always worth listening to the daily specials and the fresh catch has never let me down! Sample the sauces and enjoy the service! read more
Often times it's hard to get really good local food on the island. Most places are at the resorts and overpriced. The other choices are hit and miss. This place is always a winner. It's just very solid BBQ. It's cute and quaint and very much the style of Waimea. There is almost always a wait, and you can see why when you come. The food and the cocktails are just really dang good. I didn't get photos of all the food, because my family was digging in before I could get photos. We got the brisket, and it was some of the best I've had. (And I used to live in Texas) The fries are really fresh and unique. Definitely not like a typical restaurant fry. The French onion soup and gumbo were spectacular! Absolutely amazing. So deep with flavor, it's like a flavor bomb in your mouth. The BBQ sauces are all unique. I love the crackseed, it's tangy and not super sweet. The only complaint, we got the fresh fish of the day and had it panko crusted. It was very fishy, and almost inedible to someone sensitive to that flavor. The service was good. Our server was friendly and helpful. The host Tamara was unbelievably sweet and accommodating. This is a gem for Big Island. I highly suggest you try to make it here. read more

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. A five star rating just isn't high enough. Food: My husband and I shared the sampler platter with a side salad and potato salad for our sides. Everything was delicious and the perfect amount. As a splurge, we ordered the special for dessert, a strawberry cheesecake and the staple coconut cake. These were some of the best desserts I've ever had at a restaurant. Service: We experienced such friendly and helpful staff. A warm greeting, great recommendations, and prompt service were top notch. Ambiance: The restaurant had a homestyle aged cabin feel that was clean and cozy. read more

Every time we eat here we always leave saying we've got to come back again. Everything we've eaten from here has been amazing! I did have to come back on here though and review the desserts. I read a few reviews on here saying that the chocolate cake wasn't that great and was dry. That wasn't our experience at all! It was dense and moist and so chocolatey. It was amazing! We also tried the banana cream pie since we kept hearing raves about it. Most of us don't even like banana cream pie but it was incredible!!! And of course the coconut cake is amazing as well. We tried a coconut cake at another restaurant after we had eaten this one and it didn't even compare. We were disappointed and made a point to come back to the Fish and Hog so we could have a piece of the coconut cake here. If only we could recreate these desserts back home! I was recommended to check this place out so I went out with family. Overall experience was great! I had ordered the brisket plate which had a reasonable price! I'm personally a big brisket guy so I was happy to see that my cut passed the finger bend test, and almost fully broke apart when trying to conduct the operation! Unfortunately for my girlfriends brothers cut didn't necessarily match mine but was still "good" per his word. The menu is vast, and I'm sure it could meet the wants of many in the population. My girlfriend ordered a salad which looked great and the picture doesn't do justice so just take my word for it. As a side note the only thing that I could consider changing would've been the beans which felt a little undercooked but as small of an adjustment that could've been, doesn't necessarily dictate the experience especially since the mac n cheese made up for it and its stringy goodness made me forget about the beans itself, and don't get me started on the sweet potato fries they were delicious! Anywho the staff was great, very professional, and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that loves BBQ style food and has a big appetite, in addition to the comforting and cleanliness of the establishment itself. This won't be my last visit here, God willing! read more
The Fish and The Hog made for a fantastic nice lunch in Waimea during our full day outing. Malia was a great server who offered a variety of recommendations. The Rueben spring rolls were delicious with house smoked pastrami adding a tasty twist. The Ono sandwich was the special, which was good but not great like everyone had raved about when Ono is an option. I would highly recommend the maple bourbon smash as a drink option! It was strong with great flavor as the brown sugar maple syrup really stood out. I found the restaurant to have great ambiance with a BBQ joint style vibe and decor which I found awesome given the ranches out towards that side of the island. Highly recommend this spot if you're in town! read more
