If you're a local or staying at a timeshare, having a meal at home is an excellent option. There are many options to choose from at Foodland, including prepared foods, snacks and hot foods made the same day. Their wine selection is pretty extensive and the grocery store is well stocked with home goods to cook or prepare meals. Their service is quick and the atmosphere is a Hawaiian atmosphere you don't experience on the mainland. If you have the ability to eat at home, I would definitely recommend a visit to Foodland. read more

Great service! Food is fresh, specially the poke! Prices are not as expensive as you were told. Very similar to California. Ample parking and close to where we were staying. Extremely convenient. Cakes and fruits were a nice surprise. Very friendly staff and welcoming ambiance. read more

I now have changed my tune since my last review. I like being able to purchase unique specialty items and select deli meats and cheeses. The new General Manager works hard Doing everything; he helps in the deli, bakery and even produce and really has tried to keep spirits up. Unfortunately, employees are dropping out and there is a stream of new hires. Hopefully, time will tell if this store will survive. read more

We drove up here to evacuate for the tsunami warning and went into the store to purchase some goods since we didn't know how long we would be away. The store was mobbed but the staff were absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to accommodate everyone and help them find the things they needed. The store manager even opened up the customer service counter to help people check out and they had staff directing people to open lanes. Instead of acting overwhelmed or annoyed the manager commented that even though it was going to be really busy it felt like a privilege to help out the community. I wish there were more people like this around. read more

Every time I come to the big island, we always adventure out up north, up to Waimea. This particular Foodland seems to have a lot of amazing local items as well as some mainlander things such as particular cheeses and cottage cheese that my mom loves! Lol. I especially loved the number of fresh poke that was made in the back by the butcher/Fishermans section! I have a handful of food allergies, and take a morning smoothie every day for breakfast that requires me to have organic, wild berries, and I was lucky enough to find them here! This particular, Foodland also has a number of great hot deli items like fresh daily made spam musubi that my son loves, and a number of different local breads, like taro, guava, and Ube bread for sale!! There's always a handful of employees working, and I like all of their seasonal items, as well as what seems to be an Italian section of the store with a lot of pasta, Turkish delights and jarred sauces. Lol I always make my marinara sauce from scratch, but my teenage son is lazy and loves vodka marinara sauce! Lol, the size of this particular Foodland is perfect and they have everything spaced out very well! I will be back next time I go to the big island!hee. read more

I absolutely had a blast shopping at this grocery store. After visiting Big Island Brewhaus, I spotted Foodland and was so happy that we made the stop. This store is big and has a great selection of items to bring home from cookies and chocolates, to coffe and souvenirs. They had items for your visit to the beach, like snorkel gear and towels. A pretty good poke selection was available and it was soo good and reasonably priced. I also saw a variety of bread from the Punalu'u Bakery. All you have to do is enter your phone number to get the in store discounts advertised. If you're in the area, I highly suggest a visit. read more

They have a poke section just for poke. I ordered spicy ahi poke. I felt the price of poke at foodland was reasonably priced. Customer service was great and there was a sweet customer that helped me with easy check out. read more

We went to try their poke after reading all the reviews. It was just ok. Two different types (not flavors, will get to that next. Types are fresh fish (was told the texture is softer), the other is made from frozen fish (firmer). Is it ok to eat frozen poke? That seemed counter to what we thought was poke on the Hawaiian Islands. So we paid more for the fresh fish. The cucumber Kim chee was better than it looked. Flavors were more plentiful on the frozen side, but both of ours tasted the same. I got the furikake and he got the other one. Salty! What is with the al dente rice? If the rice had been decent I would have been happy with the rice and cucumbers. The server was excellent and patient which we appreciated. Hubby opted for self checkout and the young man watching the area offered to get us chopsticks which we had forgotten. Very sweet of him! People were great, food not so much! read more

If you want to buy groceries vs eating touristy food, avoid the natural tendency to shop at a familiar name: Safeway. Alternatively, shop where the locals do, and go to Foodland. Foodland has a lot of things locals are looking for, especially poke! They offer so many kinds of poke it took me five pics to get most of them. Some unique ones were white crab, snow crab shoulder, clams & mussels. The poke is not as good as Umeke's or Da Poke Shack in Kaikua-Kona, but its pretty good considering you can buy all your groceries here too. I always stay in Waikoloa on the Kohala Coast (western, and sunny side of the Big Island). This Foodland is in Parker Ranch about 30 min North, but there is also a smaller Foodland in the Mauna Lani Resort, which is much closer. BTW, get a Maika'i (good) card and get discounts and points towards deals. read more

Great supermarket in Waimea. Clean, well equipped store. Really tasty porkey stuffs and other marinated raw seafood, they are soo good! You can find almost everything in this market, Japanese things, freshly made sushi, or bbq meat or bake goods. On the way to Hilo from Kona, stop here, get some stuffs for the day. Really worth it. Actually there are not many groceries in Kona. This place is a gem. read more

Only two supermarkets in my town this is one of them so either go to Foodland or KTA I'm very happy with both they both have their pluses and minuses. Foodland will often send out sale items in a flyer in the newspaper and on email I don't drink but off and they'll have samples of alcohol at the front promoting their newest. The meat and fish department are Very knowledgeable and always let you know what the good prices are and the deals on dog food and bones. The ice cream is usually on sale And they have a humidor with fresh cigars also an ATM machine in the store Western Union and a video machine where you can rent Redbox movies it's conveniently located next to Starbucks read more

But our experience with Foodland is very positive on all the islands we have visited over the years. This i a good place. The selection is good and is well stocked. Prices are competitive with Costco that is 35 miles away. However, there are two issues. First, with little notice you most activate a membership account to get sale prices in store. When you checkout you must enter your phone number. Otherwise, you pay full price. Second, to get the Senior Discount on Thursdays, you must remind cashier you are a senior. Otherwise, you pay full price. read more

This is average compared to the one in Honolulu. I don't want to compare but unfortunately I can't help it. The poke here is not as yummy or should I say it didn't taste as fresh. It's a Supermarket. A good one, with a selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, beer, wine, spirits as well as food staples. Also has a good selection of household needs, as well as basic beach needs. Three tips: First, the poke is outstanding, and another great option for tasty food in Waimea. Second, even if you are just visiting, you can ask for a Maika`i card - it gets you the in-store discounts which are pretty substantial. You'll get a permanent card once you spend $150. Third: the deli is pretty solid as well, with plate lunch offerings, a good bakery, and fresh sushi. Breaking the mold for the Big Island, Foodland is open 'til 11pm. read more

This is a decent stop for supplies in the Parker Ranch Center on your way to Wipio or Hilo from the Kailua-Kona side of the Big Island. Prices are decent for Hawai'i and the Poke, as noted above, is plentiful and varied. Sign up for the saver's club to get a good discount and keep the card as a souvenir, mainlanders. Bonus! One word to the management on the store's organization... the deli should be closer to the bathroom and that chicken on a rice ball with leaves? Keep it fresh! Change the display items! We didn't shop there we strictly went for the poke which everyone said was the bet on the island. They didn't lie for sure. They have at least 10 kinds and are happy to let you taste until you find the one that is absolutely perfect for you. Their prices are less expensive than around the resort areas and since they are only about 30 minutes from the Hilton Time Share, it's worth the drive. they also have a fresh sushi area and it's pretty darn good as well. I was up in Waimea yesterday and stopped in here. Once again I was reminded of how nice a supermarket Foodland can be, and how much they need to upgrade their Kona market. This one is clean, wide aisles, stocked well with a huge assortment. Their poke looked excellent. It is such a nice store that it makes me want to start an online petition to get them to do it right in Kona lol. I really like the shopping center as well. For those of you needing wi-fi there is a starbucks next door. If I were staying in a condo in Waikoloa I'd stop here on the way back from a volcano / Hilo trip and get some fresh fish to bbq. read more

I found this grocery store right after buying a condo in Waikola Beach complex - it is super clean, extremely well-stocked, has a decent discount card (hey, this is Hawaii, y'all!) and even gives me a small senior discount. Very courteous personnel, and I like that. Great fresh food, very nice bakery and deli, and overall, the nicest of such stores I've shopped in, in both in KK and here near the beach. Worth the drive to Waimea, and make a LIST before heading off to shop here....obviously. read more

Probably one of one of the cleanest Foodlands you'll seen on your stay in Hawaii. It's always WAY stocked, and the shopping center it is located in has a ton of parking. You'll find everything at competitive pricing and before you head out to explore or hike, stop here for all your needs! Front customer service desk has a lot of tech wares as well, eve polaroids for memory making during your stay on Big Island! Once you find your way, check out the delicious Poke area (totally worth it and there are always PLENTY to get!) and the bakery, you'll find a lot of new things to enjoy while here in Hawaii! On game days, or even after school it can seem more crowded then most stores on Big Island but it's because the community here really does come to this shopping center to pass the time and definitely it shows!
