Very cool stop on our drive. We bought a lot of souvenirs here and some of them were even 15% off for a Valentine's sale they were having. They are generous with their samples (although the coffee samples appeared to be all gone when we were there). It was kind of fun to look through the windows and see the macadamia processing in realtime. The only complaint is that the bathrooms have a strong smell of backed up sewage. Definitely the best ice cream I've had. I love how they freely give samples out to everybody really allows you to taste the quality which is very high before you buy. Some of the free samples include of the coffee of the macadamia nuts, and ice cream. Towards the back, you can see the factory and some of the production line. This was a great experience for me and the family. Apparently they have a shuttle from Waikoloa to their shop. The greet everyone when they walk in which is awesome. The have all the tasting to the right when you walk in. Nui guided us to the back right where you can watch a 20 minute video of why their macadamia nuts are the best on the island. They also have a macadamia nut cracker that you can do on your own. They have a glass window so you can see the team packing all the nuts. And if you went left when you walk in you can have the wonderful ice cream. The store is bright, super clean, and the layout is organized. read more

What a great visit to learn about the Hawaiian macadamia nut industry. Cool to see the factory machines working and processing the nuts to get them on the shelves to enjoy. Lots of samples from coffee and nuts to ice cream. I loved being able to taste all the flavors of nuts before buying. The staff were super knowledgeable and had great recommendations for sampling. The factory is set on a hill in what looks to be an industrial town. Fun to see the wild goats picking through the piles of shells out back. read more

Cool place but the nuts seem old to me & not enough salt. I like them crunchy and these aren't. They are more chewy than crunchy roasted macadamia nuts that I'm used to. I only tried the traditional that had very little sea salt. I don't know how the other flavors are, but the traditional is what I'd considered the litmus test for all the rest of them. read more

Plenty of parking and just a little bit outside of Kiwaihe, cool quick stop just after lunch. They have a sampling station set up to the right immediately after you enter for Macadamia nuts, and also some of their flavored coffee. If you wanted to try a flavor but it's not there, they're more than happy to give you some. There is a promo for buy 12 get 1 free. Catch it, it must be the same size cans. There's a few different categories of flavors, and each category has their own sized packaged, so it could be hard to mix and match between different flavors. Nice thing about it is the prices didn't seem too expensive. I compared it with a grocery store just a bit later and it's cheaper than the grocery store, so take that for what it's worth. read more

After eating healthy we headed north to check out a national monument but the real stop for the family was to this place to eat some nuts and lots of ice cream. Ice cream station has all the flavors you want. I didn't know lilikoi cheesecake ice cream needed to be in my life until that day. Practically all my Hawaii gifts are from this place. They have the novelty gifts like spam flavored macadamia nuts but have expanded their sweet flavor profiles since I was last here. Butter toffee, birthday cake, of course kona toffee if you don't want to buy the salted or unsalted mac nuts. They have a nut cracking station and a video of how these nuts reach the buyer. This place is a must visit on the big island. It's a bit hidden but you will not be disappointed when you get there. They have so many different flavored macadamia nut, a factory for you to check out, macadamia nut tasting, documentaries of how to produce macadamia nuts. Even hand cracking some nuts to taste the raw, before roasted nuts . They advise you not to eat it but we did and it's really good. So it's your decision. Their ice cream is BUMB. So many unique flavors and the quility beats so those fancy boho creams hop in LA. Trust me on ice cream. You have to have at least one! read more

We saw a little sign along the road for this place and decided to drop in since we really like macadamia nuts. We were so glad we did. They had a little area where you could sample all their different flavors of macadamia nuts and Kona coffees. We ended up buying so many cans of nuts we decided to ship them home from the store instead of trying to load up our suitcases...this was incredibly convenient. The nuts actually beat us home! Our favorites were the pineapple macadamias mixed with the coconut glazed macadamias for a pina colada flavor and the Kona coffee glazed nuts. Actually everything we tried was good, but those were flavors we hadn't seen before and are now some of our favorites (including dark chocolate covered and light sea salt). The service was excellent. Everyone so warm and friendly...definitely exhibiting the aloha spirit. The shop was well organized and clean. They sold a few other goodies like coffee and candy, but you definitely need to try the variety of macadamia nut flavors. read more

Such a great store with an amazing assortment of macadamia nut flavors to satisfy any craving! At the store entrance there is a cute nut cracking station where you try your luck at cracking the nuts yourself! There is also a tasting station, which helps you narrow down your favorite flavors or convince you to buy more than you originally intended to!! There is also an enclosed area which I believed may be a working kitchen, but it was not open as we visited on a Saturday. This is tucked away off the beaten path. We almost didn't go, we are so happy we stopped here. This is the friendliest group of employees we have run into so far for our trip. They offered samples and took time to explain the process and how they do things. We were able to see a couple of employees making toffee at the time of our visit. Very interesting and if you like macadamias definitely stop in here. We of course left with all kinds of snacks! This was an unexpected highlight to our visit to the island! We stopped by Hamakua while in the area and looking for something to do before we could check in our hotel. So glad we did, we were immediately welcomed by Danette when we walked in and she made us feel like family. She toured us around the showroom floor and treated us to many different samples of macadamia nuts. We shopped for a while then she invited us to sample some delicious ice cream. Only 11 miles from Waikoloa Village it was a very spacious & clean facility with a self guided tour & a peek at the packaging/canning process. We arrived around 9:30 am, (they open at 9am), & found 2 other guests there. Although there wasn't a lot to see, I really enjoyed the short 10 minute video that entails the start to finish process of gathering the best macadamia nuts & how it is harvested. What the machines don't pick up off the ground, manual labors crouch down & pick up (which is back breaking, but they make it look easy). With that said, I have a greater appreciation for all that goes into making the macadamia nut readily available. After the video, I was able to sample 10 different types of flavored macadamia nuts. My 2 favorites were Chili Pepper & Kona Coffee Glazed, but 2 honorable mentions were Spam flavor (for its unique idea & its flavor, but not my 1st choice bc it was a little salty for me) & Wasabi (for its genuine wasabi flavor, that had a spicy kick to it). I'm surprised they didn't come up with a Matcha flavor bc they are quite creative. Glad I visited Hamakua & got a chance to learn a little something about macadamia's. read more

Been multiple times over past decades but unfortunate post-COVID changes. Better off shopping at airport/hotel gift stores. Dramatic decrease in products offered (now only 1 brittle, no cakes, few chocolate covered nut options) and the production side of the facility was closed off (hopefully just for renovations) This used to be one of our favorite stops but now is a (nut) shell of its former glory. Now they almost only offer powder/glaze covered nuts but were no pleasant. Minimal chocolate covered nuts. No mac nut turtles. Only 1 type of brittle left. The staff said these were all changes made to streamline the business but it certainly takes away from the experience. They also used to have more food/drink options as well as cups of water that would've certainly been nice after trying some of the more eclectic flavors. Unlikely to return if the products do not expand to the originals. Disappointing. read more

They also will sample a few of the flavors, so make sure you take advantage of that. Not sure what their schedule looks like but you can also see their production facility at work at times. 8 years later Hamakua Nut Factory is still fantastic. The people working the store are SO nice, helpful, welcoming, personable. Enjoyed the samples and got FINALLY, the best ice cream cone on the island. Purchased large bags for us and several small cans for gifts. (They have a "buy 12, get 1 free offer". Was really happy to see some other local gifts like lavender bug repellant and mac nut body oil. They have a selection of coffee and in the side room have Hawaiian style gifts and an informative video. My mom said she never liked macadamia nuts until she visited this place. While we went to purchase ice cream, our shopping basket was already rung up with our cones and ready for us to check out. Again, the staff could not be more wonderful!! Ample parking makes it an easy stop too. read more

We stopped here on our way up to Pololu Valley. The best part? The free samples obviously. They have so many different flavors out for you to sample which really helps you figure out which kind you like. Our favorite ended up being the wasabi ones, which wasn't surprising. We got a big bag of those. We also got a couple of smaller bags of other flavors we like. It would be cool if they had some kind of tour of the production area, but this is really just a shop. There's more than just macadamia nuts too. We got some candies that were quite good as well. This is the perfect place to stop for your Hawaiian macadamia nut fix! read more
