The Yelp Confucius of Frried Chicken, Braddah Fran C, had already turned me on to Minit Stop chain with its frried chicken on Maui. He travels interisland a lot for his job, so check out his reviews for ono kine grinds! When I discovered a Minit Stop in Kawaihae on the Big Island on the way to dive, I had to stop in for piece of chicken and musubi! And guess who already reviewed this Minit Stop? Braddah Fran! The Kohala Minit Stop is located on a curiously shaped lot (like a triangle with a tip removed) between two roads. It has two two-way egress points on the roads it's saddled between. This Minit Stop is small, but complete with fuel pumps. It's signature is its grab and go food items, & the food kiosk inside. My standby is their frried chicken thigh & musubi snack pack. Good for easing hunger pains, but not big enough to give you Hawaiian paralysis after eating it. And their frried chicken, wow! At one time or another we all have had convenience store/ truck stop/gas station hot snacks that were: old, odd tasting (from other items fried in the same oil), greasy, dried out, or any combination thereof. Minit Stop's frried chicken is none of that, even cold. They must use a deep fryer with a higher temperature to keep the grease out of the inside of the chicken. Combined that with a very savory seasoned batter and a very satisfying "crunch", Minit Stop frried chicken is a treat when you can get it. During this last trip to Kona, I went up to Kawaihae 3 times to dive, and I stopped by Minit Stop 3 times! Twice for the thigh/musubi snack pack and other sundries, and once for the Chicken Katsu with Gravy plate lunch. This wasn't your typical chicken cutlet with panko, but boneless chicken with the same seasoned batter as the frried chicken! Mmm, boneless fried chicken with gravy- so bad for you, but so good! Prices are reasonable for convenience stores, I'll keep Minit Stop in mind when I visit Maui or the Big Island. They even have an app for your smartphone & rewards card. Will repeat and recommend!

Musabi introduction and I was surprised it's hot. Definitely needed hot sauce but I could see this being an after adult beverage go to

I gotta give it up to the Minit Stop convenience stores! I've gone to a few on Maui, mostly to sneak in there for some Frrrrried Chicken! For you folks that don't know (Bruddah Fran is giving you da scoops)...........Minit Stop actually has a kitchen inside of the convenience store, and they are known for their fried chicken, & potato wedges. I was heading towards North Kohala for work today, and since I've been up since 4:30 AM, and did not eat anything when I left the house (because I was in a rush)..........I was kinda getting hungry as I was making my 50 mile drive from the Kailua-Kona Airport, to my customer's account in North Kohala. Luckily when I got to the Kawaihae area, I saw a Minit Stop convenience store so I decided to pull into the little convenience store to pick up something quick to eat. Aaaaaaah Minit Stop............I can always count on you folks for ono Frrrried Chicken!!! By the way, did ya folks know that Fried Chicken is the breakfast of CHAMPIONS???? Lol! Well, maybe not in the eyes of most people............. but a fried chicken eating freak like me will tell you it is!!! As I walked into Minit Stop, I headed straight back to the chicken stand to inspect today's fried chicken stash..........then I proceeded to head towards the heater machine with the pre-packed spam musubi's, and pre-packed fried chicken with a musubi. Aaaaah, just what I needed..........a small piece of fried chicken, & a plain musubi to tie me over for a few hours till lunch! And of course, I gotta have some coffee, cause a few cups a day is good for you! What can I say about the grub? Coffee - Honestly, is tasted terrible! But I knew I wasn't at a Starbucks! I was in da boonies......... the cup of coffee was only $1.59? How can I complain about that? My Fried Chicken & Musubi snack pack - Minit Stop, you folks never let me down with your Frrrrrrried Chicken! Even under a heat lamp, the buggah is still crunchy & ono!!! I think your fried chicken could even survive under a nuclear holocaust!!! As for the musubi........well, that wasn't so good...........as part of the musubi was all dried out from the heat lamp. Overall, the coffee & musubi........I'd probably give them a "2", but dat Fried Chicken............baby what you do to me!!!! An easy "5" baby!!! If you're ever in da boonies (like I was today)...........at least you can get some gas, and of course you need to stop by to get dat fried chicken!!! Nom! Nom! Nom!

KATSU!!!! One bite and you're like dangg

Our server Matt recommended my mom try the black bean seafood combo, and she was pleasantly surprised by how much she loved her meal! My husband got the cajun style fresh catch and loved his meal! We stopped by during happy hour on a Sunday with a party of 4 adults and one child and were immediately seated. We ordered a round of very solid (and strong) mai tais along with some pupus: the coconut shrimp and seafood quesadillas. Both were repeatable, but the seafood quesadilla was especially delicious! For the main, I ordered their fish sandwich, which came with swordfish as the catch of the day. The tartar sauce had a nice tang and just a hint of spice that really made the flavor shine. Would definitely recommend visiting!

I was so looking forward to dining on delicious BBQ . we had to order our meals as take out online because of young children , so we looked to order at 4:30 pm . so i went online and believe it or not I was incredulous that they were sold out of Every single BBQed Dish pork, chicken, ribs etc I was so disappointed and in disbelief That I called the restaurant and sure enough it was true! shocking for a BBQ RESTAURANT to run out of BBQ! because our hearts were set on having their food , so burgers were ordered by the family and i ordered the ONO grilled with a side of cole slaw and grilled pineapple, and O NO the fish was so tough it was difficult to cut with a knife... it was tastless and chewy ... threw away half of it ! It was not the fresh Ono I expected and love! hopefully this does not happen often !!! I understand that Restaurants have an off night sometimes ... but this was SO SAD !!! in addition there was something (maybe a spice or something on the grill ) on either the fish and/or the pineapple , that I had an allergic reaction to ! my tongue swelled and was extremely uncomfortable!!! I have never had that happen before... it is sad that the cornbread and the coleslaw were the best part if the meal! The burgers were enjoyed so that boosted my score !

My favorite are the tenders in Nashville heat with mac and cheese (which is AMAZING) or their mash potatoes and gravy! Therefore, I don't understand what Michael L. is complaining and regarding his bartender and her personal beliefs that she's ABSOLUTELY is entitled to; as are you! Unless you believe that freedom of speech is just good for a select few? And while your political views differ, it doesn't give you or anyone else the right to push your own OPINION and BELIEFS on others given actual FACTS and TRUTH about the actual state of things! And I find it ABSOLUTELY ironic that you call her anti-Amercan given that supposedly America is supposed to stand for I higher moral compass and protection of humanity, yet, at the moment let's reassess how things are going right now. Furthermore, learn your history bc I also think it's super F****n ironic that you're in Hawai'i talking about being anti-American. Why yes, of course we are anti-America since they have been illegally occupying our Kingdom for over a 100 years! And of course, like everything else America does it's all for FINANCIAL gain. They don't care about who they hurt! #doyourresearch #hawaiididnotwamttobethe50thState Leave my cool people at Willie's alone! They are professionals and they treat all people the same, UNLESS, you want to push your opinions on them and trash them for their beliefs. #constitutiom #freedomofspeech

I'd like this restaurant because I like the style of chicken in the upbeat snappy feel of the place…read moreas well as the general idea of various levels of hot chicken using chicken tenders having things like macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets on the menu. These are all positives however!! I am a retired restaurant owner and I know something about food, both myself, and my friends have gotten food poisoning and quite sick from that restaurant twice. The first time I called the owner he was extremely nice about the situation offered to leave a tab for me to buy $100 worth of food (which I never did use) and after about two months, I went back and tried the restaurant and nothing went wrong. I continued to eat there with my friends over the next year and a half or two years until a few days ago and both myself and another chef who works at a high-end restaurant here in Kona went there for lunch and within an hour or two both of us were quite sick with what we considered to be food poisoning ---- so although I do like this place I offer a word of advice in warning to people considering going there you can't get sick from the food. They're serving chicken after all which requires intense scrutiny in terms of getting bacteria into the chicken.

We also came on a Friday evening, so it was nice to see of people here. The spot serves Hawaiian plate lunches, and it definitely did not disappoint. Portion sizes were huge, we probably had the best macaroni salad of our entire trip here, and flavors were super bold, but not overly salty. Pork Belly Fat Adobo (10/10) - this was fantastic! The meat was literally fall apart tender, and was able to retain its juiciness. Sometimes braised meat gets a little dry for me, but this place definitely does it right and preps some juicy pork. - the pork belly sauce mixed with the rice was probably one of my favorite things on this entire trip Spicy Garlic Furikake Chicken (8/10) - this was a huge plate! The fried chicken is super crispy and retains its crispiness on the outside for a while. It packs a very mild kick will not being overly salty or spicy. - to illustrate the crispiness, we were able to get our food to go, drive over to the beach, and while eating the chicken was still delicious and crisp Overall, a pretty unassuming spot from the outside, but as you can tell from the reviews of this place definitely hits the spot. When we entered, we immediately joined the line at the order counter, which had about 10 people. We waited a bit so that we could claim a table. Vibe: Feels very mom and pop with large tables and plastic chairs. This is a great place to grab a quick bite. Food: - Garlic furikake chicken (8.5/10): We thought that this was the star of the three meats that we ordered! The glaze was a perfect blend of sweet and savory, complemented well by the furikake. The skin was the best part as it was incredibly crispy! The chicken meat itself was not dry per se, but we would've liked it to be a little juicier. - Pork belly fat adobo (8/10): I thought that the adobo flavor was authentic! The pork belly fat was rendered well, but I thought the lean part was a bit dry and we needed to dunk it into the adobo sauce. - Garlic butter shrimp (7/10): The shrimp were humongous and succulent, and the shells were not too difficult to peel away. The shrimps were also drenched in butter, but they could've used more flavor as all we can taste was the butter and a hint of garlic. - Kimchi cucumbers (9/10): These were super tangy and crunchy in a satisfying way, and the acidity of the kimchi sauce really punches you in the mouth! For drinks, there is also a selection of water bottles, canned soft drinks, and hawaiian juices to choose from.
