If you're looking for a decent customer service experience then this place isn't it. This location has THE WORST customer service. They have no problem ignoring you and even giggle about it and talk trash about you while talking trash about their co-workers. If you ask them for help they tend to get fussy. I've seen this happen many times at THIS LOCATION and it's happened to me too. This was at night too and I've noticed that this location, particularly at night, has very rude employees. At the ending of the day it is a gas station and I'm there to get what I need and be on my way. Their food is great, I must say. The fried chicken and potato wedges--or even bentos is a MUST when stopping there. ***I was just there last night, 7/14/26 and there were 2 employees on the floor talking smack about one of their co-workers. I grabbed what I needed and waited at the register. The employee was standing about 6 feet away from me making drum noises on a pile of boxes and I asked her if anyone was at the register. She said "Yeah, SHE IS" and pointed to the other employee pulling trash from the hot food area. There was also another customer standing behind me waiting to check-out. The drumming of boxes continued too from the other employee.*** If you don't need to go there, go to the next gas station. They are my "emergency only" gas station and when on empty I'll put in $10 (when I actually need $85-$100) and fill up at the next gas station that deserves the business. 5 stars for food and 1 for customer service. read more

Starved after a day at the beach, we stopped in because my smart daughter remembered Minit Stop from when she was on Oahu. We were served THE most delicious fried chilen by the sweet auntie back there cooking away. Mac salad was THE bomb! The chicken katsu plate with two huge scoops of rice and a big scoop of that mac salad. It was the same fried chicke in bite size pieces and teriyake sauce to pour over top. Sweet Mother of Mercy everything was ono to the MAX. I highly recommend this Minit Stop for a meal. read more

Perfect place to get a bite to eat if you are driving to Kohala. The chicken and potatoes were perfect. We arrived in Kona after 6pm our drive to our Kohala Airbnb and we were starving then saw this Mini Stop. It was a perfect dinner to take with us. Workers were so pleasant and helpful. We needed some quick food on our way to Pololu Valley so stopped by this convenience store along the way. I know that Minit Stop is known for their fried chicken and came specifically for that. The menu offered a chili and fried chicken combo but unfortunately they were out of chili. So I just ordered some chicken and rice. The staff packaged up my meal and handed it to me along with a ticket to pay at the front counter. All the staff were friendly, both from the chicken area as well as the front counter. We even had a brief conversation about the goats across the street because I was curious and asked about them. The Big Island has an abundance of wild goats. read more

The Yelp Confucius of Frried Chicken, Braddah Fran C, had already turned me on to Minit Stop chain with its frried chicken on Maui. He travels interisland a lot for his job, so check out his reviews for ono kine grinds! When I discovered a Minit Stop in Kawaihae on the Big Island on the way to dive, I had to stop in for piece of chicken and musubi! And guess who already reviewed this Minit Stop? Braddah Fran! The Kohala Minit Stop is located on a curiously shaped lot (like a triangle with a tip removed) between two roads. It has two two-way egress points on the roads it's saddled between. This Minit Stop is small, but complete with fuel pumps. It's signature is its grab and go food items, & the food kiosk inside. My standby is their frried chicken thigh & musubi snack pack. Good for easing hunger pains, but not big enough to give you Hawaiian paralysis after eating it. And their frried chicken, wow! At one time or another we all have had convenience store/ truck stop/gas station hot snacks that were: old, odd tasting (from other items fried in the same oil), greasy, dried out, or any combination thereof. Minit Stop's frried chicken is none of that, even cold. They must use a deep fryer with a higher temperature to keep the grease out of the inside of the chicken. Combined that with a very savory seasoned batter and a very satisfying "crunch", Minit Stop frried chicken is a treat when you can get it. During this last trip to Kona, I went up to Kawaihae 3 times to dive, and I stopped by Minit Stop 3 times! Twice for the thigh/musubi snack pack and other sundries, and once for the Chicken Katsu with Gravy plate lunch. This wasn't your typical chicken cutlet with panko, but boneless chicken with the same seasoned batter as the frried chicken! Mmm, boneless fried chicken with gravy- so bad for you, but so good! Prices are reasonable for convenience stores, I'll keep Minit Stop in mind when I visit Maui or the Big Island. They even have an app for your smartphone & rewards card. I gotta give it up to the Minit Stop convenience stores! I've gone to a few on Maui, mostly to sneak in there for some Frrrrried Chicken! For you folks that don't know (Bruddah Fran is giving you da scoops)...........Minit Stop actually has a kitchen inside of the convenience store, and they are known for their fried chicken, & potato wedges. I was heading towards North Kohala for work today, and since I've been up since 4:30 AM, and did not eat anything when I left the house (because I was in a rush)..........I was kinda getting hungry as I was making my 50 mile drive from the Kailua-Kona Airport, to my customer's account in North Kohala. Luckily when I got to the Kawaihae area, I saw a Minit Stop convenience store so I decided to pull into the little convenience store to pick up something quick to eat. Aaaaaaah Minit Stop............I can always count on you folks for ono Frrrried Chicken!!! By the way, did ya folks know that Fried Chicken is the breakfast of CHAMPIONS???? Lol! Well, maybe not in the eyes of most people............. but a fried chicken eating freak like me will tell you it is!!! As I walked into Minit Stop, I headed straight back to the chicken stand to inspect today's fried chicken stash..........then I proceeded to head towards the heater machine with the pre-packed spam musubi's, and pre-packed fried chicken with a musubi. Aaaaah, just what I needed..........a small piece of fried chicken, & a plain musubi to tie me over for a few hours till lunch! And of course, I gotta have some coffee, cause a few cups a day is good for you! What can I say about the grub? Coffee - Honestly, is tasted terrible! But I knew I wasn't at a Starbucks! I was in da boonies......... the cup of coffee was only $1.59? How can I complain about that? My Fried Chicken & Musubi snack pack - Minit Stop, you folks never let me down with your Frrrrrrried Chicken! Even under a heat lamp, the buggah is still crunchy & ono!!! I think your fried chicken could even survive under a nuclear holocaust!!! As for the musubi........well, that wasn't so good...........as part of the musubi was all dried out from the heat lamp. Overall, the coffee & musubi........I'd probably give them a "2", but dat Fried Chicken............baby what you do to me!!!! An easy "5" baby!!! It's hard to describe the taste but the fried chicken is moist with crunchy crunchy skin. What they do to it after that is amazing. Dont think about just go and order the Chicken Katsu. This place had the rudest cashier I've ever encountered. I stopped there to get gas and tapped my credit card at the pump. It asked for a PIN. My credit card (not a debit card) doesn't have a PIN, so I tried a couple more times and then tried with a second card with the same result. So, I went inside and told the cashier that the pump wouldn't take my credit card. She said, "Well, it just doesn't work; you're supposed to come inside to pay" (as I had). I suggested (politely) that they might put up a sign to save people the trouble of having to re-try getting the pump take their card. I then gave her $50 and she told me to come back if the car didn't take that much (it did, given that gas was about $5 per gallon -- not their fault; it's Hawaii). Then she said, "I'm not going to put up a sign for people like you who just don't understand" and put up her hand and said "Bye!" with a mocking smile before I even had a chance to respond. Oh holy sweet Jesus in heaven, the fried chicken and potato wedges here are delicious! They did however just change the menu. Previously you were able to order smaller quantities or "snack packs" however, now the smallest order of chix is 9 pieces (4 drumsticks, 5 thighs) and 3 pieces of wedges. Don't get me wrong I still order because it's THAT good, but the snack packs were the perfect single serving! For that they loose a star, along this the terrible customer service (sometimes I'm waiting at the counter to order for a while before anyone acknowledges me) but it is just a gas station after all so don't expect much. read more

I've lived here for 23 years, and by far this Minit stop has the WORST service! The only reason I still go there is for the 8¢ off a gallon of gas. There's only one good worker there that actually helps you once you walk in. He is the one employee that deserves the job. Other then that you can expect to wait for service,the employees will just stand around and act like your not there. Even when you wave them over to the counter they roll there eyes and move even slower Like seriously who treats paying customers like that? The last time I went to put gas I walked in to pay cash for my pump. & I passed a Manager I assume in a different colored shirt. (Japanese or Asian) can't remember her name but it had 5 letters in it. Any way..... I passed her sweeping as I walked in. She watches me walk to the counter & continues sweeping. (Seriously! Start moving your ass, customer service should be a higher priority.) After I walked in a tourist came right after I. 7/3/15 -- 7:55 pm I purchased my gas at the pump with a credit card. I sprinted into the store to make a quick purchase at the convenience store. The clerk (older lady) was "talking story" with a woman, who had already completed her purchase. There were no other customers in the store. I stood there, patiently, waiting for the clerk to acknowledge me & take payment for my item. She completely ignored me. She was too busy "talking story" to do her job. She did not even look at me. I finally put my item back on the shelf & left. She was still "talking story" with the other woman, as I walked out the door. Please give this job to someone who needs it!! I am in health care. I wonder how she would feel, if I treated her the same way she treated me! read more
