And I said no need put the brisket. She said that would be $3 more. Cause tendon is more expensive. I said just put the same Amount of tendon. No need put more. And she was confused. Located on a strip mall across from McDonalds in HI. Less than 10 tables and a simple menu with various protein based Pho. I ordered the combo beef pho which was averaged priced at $16. The bowl of Pho was decent and flavorful for the price. All was good until we saw a baby roach walking on the wall next to our table. While I admit there is no ambiance do this little restaurant hidden in corner of small shopping area behind the main shopping center; the food is delicious. Their menu keeps expanding so there are many dishes I have not yet tried but my husband and I come for their fabulous pho. The bowl comes full of rice noodles and a delicious broth with tender meat floating on top. It is served with a plate of bean sprouts and fresh basil to add as you like and some different sauces to dip the meat in. Service is friendly and water glasses continually refilled. Placed a takeout order at the counter for the grilled chicken and rice plate. Order came out ahead of promise. The bag seemed light and I was worried that the serving size was small. Let's face it folks we are on the Big Island and not a lot of Vietnamese restaurants here. This one is EXCELLENT!! One of the best crispy ducks ever! Was so excited to eat Vietnamese food on the Big Island and were happy to find this restaurant in Waimea, but we were overall disappointed. When we arrived, we were told the restaurant was short staffed and wait times would be longer. This wasn't an issue for us as we were in no rush. By the time we were seated, we were ready to place our order, but we're told to wait, again because they were short staffed. Again, we said no problem. After we were able to order and got our food we had high hopes for the quality but were disappointed. First time here, nice to see a pho restaurant in Waimea. The restaurant is in a busy strip mall. Parking was fairly easy. Ordered the number 7 pho which has most of the meats included. The broth was pretty diluted lacking any real flavor. Tasted like chicken stock mostly to me. Portion of meat and noodles was meek. The basil, sprouts and chili's were also sparse. Had a Vietnamese iced coffee that was weak and flavorless. Have to say the portions, lack of flavor and overall experience gets 3 stars. I believe with a bit more effort in the product it could be a winner. Going to keep going to Hilo for pho in the meantime. read more

One of the greatest things about Vietnamese food is the diversity and flavor of vegetables and how they are prepared and mixed together. This place does not believe in vegetables. There may be 1 vegetarian item on the menu. But I'm an omnivore, my wife is the vegetarian, so in an act of kindness during my sickness she got me chicken noodle soup, phở gà. They could not make vegetable broth so she suffered and did not get anything. It was very overpriced, and came with a good amount of noodles, and decent broth, but a pathetic tiny bag of mung beans, basil, and one sorry jalapeño slice. If you are just looking for a bowl of meat, at a high price, this may be your place. But if you are looking for Vietnamese phở, save the money and drive to Hilo. read more

Aloha! The food is OK as we are from Orange County, California. It isn't bad. However, I agree with other reviews on here that the service is quite awful. This review is intended for the owner. I sincerely hope the lady serving us is not your wife nor family as she seems upset that she had to wait on customers. No smile, always seemed we were bothering her. I recommend you replace your staff unless she is your wife or daughter :( Hopefully not. Also.. we are Vietnamese! I ordered pho dac biet, number #7 and the broth is 10/10. This was the best pho I had so far in the big island. The portion size is pretty good as well. I have been deprived of pho for that last few month normally in sf I have pho once a week. We are FANS and regulars of the ORIGINAL one in Kona.. going at least TWICE a week since it opened.. The one that just opened in Waimea is more spacious the food is just as excellent.. you know it's AUTHENTIC hand made BROTH from Scratch. My Favorite is the the #7 which basically has EVERYTHING in it that is BEEF, my wife loves the chicken pho.. real chicken soup. Great food & Service. My husband had chicken pho, I had grilled shrimp and rice noodles. Both came with excellent homemade sauces. We also had the shrimp vegetable rolls & the pork egg rolls. One serve Penutian sauce; the other with a very light sweet & sour sauce. Flavors we excellent. The Pho is really good here but the waitress (we've had her a couple times) seems to be very grouchy. The cook and or owner that brought our food out was very nice. Again I loved the food so I am still giving this place a decent review. Maybe that lady just didn't like the way my family looked or something. I really love and enjoy a could bowl of PHO very comforting food the only downside to there business would be false advertisement on their site is their vegetable spring rolls are displayed as their fried ones which they're not I ordered some spring rolls tonight and they're what we call summer rolls but I guess this PHO company calls their (summer rolls ) fried ones and their spring rolls (their summer rolls) that's the only down side of their business!!! I really wanted to love this spot, and I think it's great to have a Vietnamese food option in Waimea. Here's the thing though, when I first arrived it wasn't too busy and when I got my water - there was a fruit fly in it. I figured it happens but when I ordered my Pho Tai Chin, it had a floating black object. My sister told me they usually top the pho with cracked black pepper in the soup but it looked too big for pepper and it had legs. Object turned out to be a roach. I informed the waitress, who was more than willing to replace my order. She also dropped off salad rolls free of charge. It's a tough spot to be in for restaurants, especially during the ongoing pandemic, so it's hard to say don't eat here - just want to share my experience. One bug is one thing but two bugs?
