The brewhaus is an awesome little shack of delicious food and great drinks. I ride my bike around town a lot and it always makes me happy to hear music and laughter coming from this spot, even late after other businesses have closed. Not too many places stay open late here but this one doesn't disappoint. The staff is kind and positive and they informed me that they have gluten free bread although the website and menu don't say so. I got a bacon burger on some gf bread and it was amazing. We had a "taste" of beers from Big Island Brewhaus while having lunch at Black Rock Pizza. So decided to head out on an adventure to the brewery. Beautiful drive from Kona, but parking can be a little tricky. Luckily, there are additional parking areas nearby. Ordered a BLT with fries and a Red Sea of Cacao Imperial Red to wash it down. Food was pretty good, beer was better. Definitely worth the trip (also purchased a t-shirt to celebrate our visit). read more

What a sweet spot! Luriline was our server and was so patient and informative to our large group the fried pickles were out of this world and the various brews and mai tai all were great! Holy cow.......GET THE GARLIC FRIES!! We went in with only an hour before close, which I hate to do but we're were running out of time. This did not seem to bother them. They were friendly and quick! We ate by the bar so it got a little loud but the decor and ambiance made me feel like I could actually engage and have fun with my group. Great place to grab some good food and amazing beers with awesome friends. The food was so good, we forgot to take pictures. The staff were friendly, helpful with the menu choices, and professional. We were there on a Friday night. They had live music which was amazing. They have indoor and outdoor seating - but we liked and chose the outdoors. Great ambience. The local beers are a must get along with any of the menu options . Next time you are in Waimea town, be sure to stop by Big Island Brewhaus. This place has gone downhill in last year. It used to be my go to place when on island and food and service were always great. We went as a party of 6 a few days ago and the food portions have gotten significantly smaller, prices higher and it took 1.5 hours to get our food which was cold. My classic cheeseburger for $19 was a fraction of the bun, and to get a side of fries it's $7 additional. I want to do my best to support local but I wouldn't go back anytime soon because service and quality have gone down significantly and prices have gone up significantly. I noticed this brewery while I was driving by and pulled over to enjoy a beer on draft. We ordered two drinks one being an IPA and the other an iced tea. Did some sightseeing at the north end of the island, valley of the kings, Hawi, etc. at the recommendation of a friend, we had lunch at Big Island Brewhaus. We tried several of their award winning beers and had eats. Rockies famous fish bites live up to their name! Ahi tuna bites in a very light, crisp batter. Aaaaamazing! Such a fun place too. We had a most excellent Reuben pastrami sandwich at Big Island brewhaus. Could be the best Reuben pastrami I've had, ever. The bread was toasted instead of soaked in oil and browned like many places do. I can actually taste the caraway seed in the bread and the pastrami was plentiful. The garlic fries were also excellent. All in all this was a great meal. The beer selection is one of the best we've seen on any of the islands with the most taps. We enjoyed every beer we taste it and we did a few samplers to be sure that we didn't miss anything we wanted to try. read more

This is the very best spot for beer on the Big Island. The White Mountain Porter in particular is perhaps the perfect specimen of its kind. It's chocolatey and coconuty and delicious. If you don't usually like porters or darker beers, ask them for a taste before you commit to a full glass. They do flights of all of their wonderful beers so check out the rest while you are here. We stopped here for an early dinner on our way back to Kona. Parking is extremely tight. There is a sign that says additional parking is somewhere down the road. They have about 15 beers on tap, some local kombucha and a few NA beers. I did think it was a little ridiculous that a soda on fountain was $4 for a glass and $2 for a refill. I ordered the nachos as my main meal. They were really good and very filling. Mh main complaint would be the over use of sour cream. I love sour cream but these nachos were overloaded. My partner got the cheeseburger with a side of fries. He said the burger was really good but he wouldn't pay the $8 for a side of fries if we went back. read more

Driving around Waimea I saw the Sign "Big Island Brewhaus", couldn't resist a local Hawaiian brewery. I ordered a sample of different beers and enjoyed tasting them all before settling on the Dark Knight. Not sure it was what I wanted from the samples but it was still pretty good. We tried a side of the local beef it was delicious also tried the stew and squash. We met a few locals and enjoyed swapping stories. They have inside seating and outside seating in da beer garden. Best brewery on the big island! It is a bit out of the way in Paniolo country, but worth the drive if you are doing anything up country. Each and every beer was spot on, meticulously crafted, with the recipes dialed in! You cannot go wrong in the beer menu! Food was pretty good too. Waitress was amazing! We did a bunch of samples, but forgot to try the porter so had to share a pint of that. When it was brought out we got a taster of the frozen porter (beer slushy anyone!) and it was amazing. Sightseeing around Kamuela and the sign caught my eye. It's a unique octsgon? shaped wood building almost hobbit like. The vibe is old school Fleetwood Mac music playing, like a Paniolo Cheers. The bartender probably the owner runs the show, knows his stuff about beer and how to pour the perfect head. The place is full of character unpretentious and chill. If I lived here it would be my go to neighborhood bar but tourists are also present. The kind of tourists who went to Grateful Dead concerts. Kamuela is pretty slow and sleepy so this is definitely somewhere to hang out. The beer is good but let me tell you about their aioli sauce. Order the fries with it. It is creamy mustard heaven could drink it. Hubby got a green chile burger and the aioli sauce was also in there. The green chili was whole like a chile relleno it was dang good. You can find their beer in the store but it's a little pricey. Real comfort food there highly recommend if you like beer and a cozy atmosphere. We also bought a tshirt. read more

Loved this Brewhaus. Right from our parking experience to getting food - it was all perfect. Staff was very sweet and friendly. We were debating between fried pickles and veggie fritters and our server recommended pickles - and boy, those were tasty. It came out warm and were perfectly crunchy. I chose salad for an entree and it was fresh and crisp. Falafel were really tasty and filling. My husband got a falafel sandwich with garlic fries - fries were so yum! Sandwich bread was generously buttered and tasted good. We also ordered a custom nachos platter - instead of meat or poke we asked for falafel (to keep it vegetarian) and staff happily accommodated our request. Recommended by a coworker. Seated at a table used for takeout by the same waitress that never visited our table. 45 minutes later we decided to leave. At least the bartender served us drinks. No idea why my husband and I were treated that way as others arrived and were served. That waitress should be fired. Karma comes back to those who treat others with such unkind behavior. read more

When you get tired of mediocre overpriced resort food, make the drive up to Waimea town and check out this local brewery. They don't sell the beer (yet) in cans so all these brews on tap are going to be new and exciting to most people. They've won many awards in national beer competitions so get the 5-sampler and taste a bunch of them! I'm not even a beer drinker, the menu is mostly Tex-mex inspired and was great. Garlic fries were 10/10. Fish tacos and chicken nachos were also excellent. Actually, everything was pretty good. There was a sign saying they were short staffed so expect long wait times but this was the quickest and BEST service we had while on island and it was in this little town of Waimea. I'm glad I read someone's review at another local brewery on this island that said "Go to Big Island Brewhaus instead" because this was excellent. read more

After a long and crazy drive from the Volcanos and The Mauna Kea Observatories, we were at a loss on where to go. We didn't have an agenda so I suggested driving to Waimea (Kamuela for the old-timers) to eat at a place called The Fish and the Hog, which was highly-recommended by my co-workers. The drive from Mauna Kea to Waimea was pretty long by my standards living on an island of Oahu, but for my husband who loved to drive, it was nothing. I profusely apologized to my husband after we pulled into The Fish and Hog parking lot after it was closed, on a Tuesday; apparently they are only open on a few days. We had a hard time getting out of the parking lot of Fish and Hog to find parking for the Big Island Brewhaus, which was only a few lots but there was a sign to go park by the church in the cherry tree grove area. I was perplexed by the cherry trees that we parked under, as well as walking past homes with lavender and hydrangeas; all of these plants need cool weather to survive, and apparently Kamuela had enough cold weather to keep these plants happy. The Big Island Brewhaus itself was a pretty cool set up with a comfy, easy feel. Nothing fancy, with a choice of indoor or outdoor (covered dining). We chose indoor. Husband got a Green Chili Burger with half order of garlic fries ($15.00 + $6.00) and I got a Felafel burger with half order of garlic fries ($15.00 + $6.00); he liked his Green Chili Burger while the Felafel Burger was just OK, the bun was way to thick and hard, but I was glad there were vegetarian options. Service as fast and very friendly. We got booze to go as we didn't want to drink/drive/use toilet without toilet in sight, plus the bottles of margarita caught my attention with skeleton hands doing the shaka: - Red Sea of Cacao Mason (quart) jar of chocolate and sea salt beer $12.00 - two bottles of margaritas (lime and lilikoi); Lime $17.00 and Lilikoi $18.00 One quart of beer and two bottles of margarita = $47.00 We finished the beer back at our hotel/cottages and took the margarita bottles back to Oahu with us to finish. We totally loved the beer, wish we had more. The lilikoi margarita was superb - the lime was just OK, we had to add more tequila to it to make it palatable, but otherwise, the sheer option to have take-out booze was a great 'wow factor'. Having such a cool brewery in the middle of what seemed like nowhere was a bit of a surreal experience. I know Kamuela is very rich in it's history so I don't want to demean such an amazing town with my description, but from a city person going to Kamuela it sure did seem that way, but in any way, shape or form, I'm planning on going back to Kamuela because the place totally intrigues me... and of course, so does the Brewhaus, and next time I go back, I will try most of their beers. read more

This is a great little gem with a true local vibe! Stopped in here after a day exploring the northwest side of the island. Our service was great! She was friendly and welcoming. The place is tiny, which I really appreciate. The beers were on point. We were starving and decided to have an early dinner here. DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Once we found out the burgers were local, we had to try them. We had two burgers and an appetizer of fries with garlic.... Too much food! Should've just split one burger and got the side of fries....
