Wearing what I wear is less of an issue for me. Bow Bec's is an unexpected paradise for me of yarn and unusual, flowing, imaginative clothing. There's a tendency in slightly hippy towns for the kind of layered, drapey middle-aged New Age woo-woo woman look that is missing here. Instead, there are chic, asymmetrical skirts, biased cut tops and bottoms, feminine, draping, flowing clothing that are not necessarily the oversized, loose garb of the above mentioned kind of woman -- bless her heart -- that leans toward unusually cut clothing. I have some real clotheshorse friends that wear tiny sizes and workout about 2-3 hours a day. They love draping, flowing, comfortable, form fitting clothes and I saw plenty of skirts and tops here that they would love. The price tag comes with it, though. This is no cheap store. A nice skirt with several bias-cut gores with ruching embellishment cost about $115. You'd expect this price and it is worth it. It's not poorly constructed and it'll probably be the favorite skirt of that certain chic, unusual girl for the rest of its lifespan (I'd give it about 15-17 years with the proper cleaning care and as long as she stays relatively the same size that long). In the back, there are the best yarns. No cheap quality yarns here. Noro, Gedifra, GGH, and other great brand yarns of high quality with BEAUTIFUL colorways. And a good amount of stock. I go to my LYS (Local Yarn Shop) and it's not well-stocked, only 3 of the most attractive colorways and 9 of the less attractive colorways. The prices were moderate -- not the highest I've seen and not the cheapest either. Okay, let's be blunt: I tend to shop online because I've been knitting since I was 8 and I can tell by most of the information I see online and sometimes by dropping in on my LYS what a yarn's going to be like. Many knitters prefer the sensuality of touching the yarn and seeing how the yarn looks next to their skin in the mirror. This is the perfect shop for that. It's well-stocked and the prices are not outrageous. Soft sell: the serene woman at the helm was not the owner and she was helpful and avoided any kind of annoying and aggressive sales. In fact, no one I've encountered in Chico has yet to be an aggressive salesperson. Yay!

This place was huge compared to the other stores in downtown. It was filled with locally-made items and food from the area and county. There were so many unique gifts and items here. We spent over an hour in the store browsing! My friend and I spent over 5 minutes talking to Patty in the food section listening to her talk about each vendor she personally worked with and knew. You could hear the passion in her voice when describing each item. The scones mix, she explained, took the chef over a year to perfect, the hot sauces, she knew every little detail. She was so knowledgeable and welcoming. In fact, all the employees we interacted with were so helpful. I've had Lundberg organic brown rice many times as they used to carry it at my Costco but I had no idea they made rice chips. One of the other employees said she went to high school with the Lundberg's kids! There were so many things I wanted to bring back home but couldn't. It will just warrant another trip up to Chico in the near future! Thank you to the staff here for making us feel so welcome on our first visit ever to Chico!

I was the only person in the store and it took her nearly five minutes to even say hello. I told her I was looking for a winter fabric in shades of blue to which she responded by pointing her finger to a small display of Christmas fabrics. She didn't even say anything - just pointed. I would've left right then and there but I needed to fabric so I looked through the selection. No blue winter fabrics. You'd think that'd be an obvious one. Snowflakes maybe? I would've even settled for a blue Hanukkah fabric. Nope. Just red and green Christmas fabric. I left and said thanks anyway to which she did not reply. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she was maybe just having a bad day but I don't think I'll be back. I'd rather go to morning star or drive to Chico

I experienced what felt like gatekeeping toward experienced players and well-built Commander decks. The environment seemed geared toward keeping games at lower power levels rather than accommodating a variety of playstyles. The store also keeps very limited hours, being open only for a few hours on weekends, which makes it difficult to shop or attend events regularly. The hygiene policy also struck me as unusually strict. While I understand wanting to maintain a clean and comfortable environment, some aspects of the policy seem unnecessarily rigid and could unfairly affect people with legitimate medical or glandular conditions. Overall, I found the community to be geared primarily toward newer players and mostly unmodified Bracket 1-2 preconstructed Commander decks. If that's what you're looking for, it may be a good fit. However, players with larger collections, more optimized decks, or more experience may find the environment restrictive and less welcoming. There are other game stores in the area, like Hero's Corner, that, in my experience, offer a broader range of playstyles, more flexible communities, less gatekeeping, and a more enjoyable overall experience. I've been to a lot of different LGS's over the years and I can't say I'd recommend this one.

Visited recently from my college days after the previous owner sold to the new owners (didn't know…read moreabout that). Was greeted with a sign outside that said wear deodorant..... okay understanable but thats really brazen for an owner to do that. The young women behind the counter was insanely helpful and kind though! I expressed my previous ventures here about the old owner and we talked, lovely discussion and the only reason thisnplaces gets a two and not a 1. The owner was apparently on the bottom floor playing / organizing cards. Me and my friend started to look through the bulk area of cards and started to ask about pricing of certain cards and packs. That's when the owner chimed in with the absolute worst attitude, a complete night and day compared to the person running the ont desk. In his bulk section we made a point that these 10 cards totaled less then what he wanted for the cards in that price section and we were willing to round up but just not over pay by about $6. The sneer this person had was horrid. Idk how people like that ever are blessed with the ability to own and operate a buisness but it is really sad. This place as amazing during college for me, but the new owner has completly built an extremely toxic atmosphere.
