I was told that framing for a drawing would be done the next day. The next day came and went and I got no phone call from them to tell me why there was a delay. So two days later I called four times at various points in the morning and got no answer. Then later that evening, I was told that the framing was finished. When I picked up the picture, it was not centered in the frame. Probably 1/4 of an inch tilted at an angle. Just enough to bother you when you look at the picture. The framing department could improve with communication and take better care to ensure that custom framing projects are accurately centered in the frame. I had to have it reframed at Chico Paper Co. I hope that this is not a common experience, it's possible that I just fell through the cracks, but something can be learned from this for both the potential customer and the store. And you also get what you pay for. Bargain framing isn't always a bargain. read more

The perfect place for arts & crafts lovers! When I was younger, I absolutely adored doing arts & crafts. Now, as an adult, I don't do arts & crafts much. In recent years, however, I have become interested in this hobby again. This why I occasionally visit this store. The inside is large and spacious. They have a wide selection of fabrics, paints, glitter, stickers, paper, etc. It's really exciting passing through the aisles, not knowing what you'll find. I go in knowing what I want, which is why I can't speak about service in this review. But I'm sure employees would be helpful if you had some questions. Some of the materials can be expensive. Yesterday I went into Michael's in Chico to get a bouquet of balloons for my daughter's birthday. Danielle was the employee who helped me and she was AMAZING!!! She spent time to tell me about any deals that were happening and then she gave the design of the balloons considerable care. It is rare to find someone as thoughtful and cheerful to help make a birthday this special. Highly recommend. read more

Took a picture there for framing was told 2 weeks. I called to confirm it was done and when i went to pick up was told the mat cane damaged amd it wasn't done. Waited another week no call and when I checked was rudely told there was no update because the mat was on backorder (funny as that sounds like something I would consider information a customer should know) then they told me they would email company and get back to me. Waited another week!! Called and again told no update company hadn't answered them. (Again good info to know) 30 days later I'm taking picture to Chico Art Co where I should have gone to begin with. Not only is this store always clean and well stocked, I was in this store last week and had bought two on sale vases for my backyard wedding party and I LEFT THEM wrapped/bagged up in self checkout. Today I went back, explained my situation and was sure they would say I was SOL (understandably - it was my mistake), but the manager came over and took care of me and I was able to take the 2 vases home that I had left there. Austin is awesome, wonderful and has excellent customer service. I went to the framing department this morning. Another customer was not wearing a mask and I asked him why. He gave some lame excuse. I asked the manager why he didn't have to wear one. I was told they don't have to. Seriously?!?! I'm having surgery in a few weeks and cannot get sick or there will be no surgery for me. Have shopped their for years and usually a friendly staff however this time the manager, "Chloe" noticed I was directed to self check-out and made me feel uncomfortable. She was loudly clicking something & was told me it was her job to watch me check out. When I told her I was uncomfortable & wasn't going to steal she again told me it was her job to watch me. I used to love this place but we went tonight for a few odd art supplies and then were told we had to check ourselves out. I'm sorry.. I didn't realize I worked here?!?! 4 self check out stands replaced where people used to be. I'm a little old fashioned and 1) believe you shouldn't take away jobs from living breathing people, 2) hate that they are pushing credit/debit (electronic) payments 3) think if I'm going to check myself out and bag my own things then I get paid as an employee AND am privy to the employee discounts. Michael's used to be a nice, clean store that I enjoyed going to. Not so much anymore. The frame selection was very low which is what I went for. It used to be stocked well. Maybe the disruptions are causing delays in restocking. I hadn't been in well over two years and was super disappointed to see the store nothing like it had been before. It just looked unclean and old. This new pay kiosk really bites too!! Technology is replacing people. Not cool. read more

The framing department went above and beyond for me when I was on a schedule... I dropped a piece for framing and they gave me a two week timeline which was going to be past my deadline but I decided to go ahead and hope it would finish early. When I came to pick it up before my deadline it still wasn't framed (which I knew and accepted) but since the frame had actually arrived, they went ahead and framed it there on the spot. I was having a horrible time trying to find the yarn that I needed to finish a quite large project. Michaels in Redding was the only store that had my yarn. I talked to a wonderful person named Jo who understood my problem and solved it quickly! She has a GREAT customer service type of personality! What an asset to the Michaels organization. read more

Typical art and craft store but better than Yuba City. Selections were better and organized. Staff was friendly as with most, but elderly customer appeared to be lost and awaiting help. I asked her if she needed help and said someone should be there soon but said it was awhile now. Clearance items have mixed regular price stuff so be warned when you go try that so called sale and it is not. read more

I've had my ups and downs with this store and I'm on an UP right now! I don't know if it is new managers or what, but they seem to have it much more together than they used to. The shelves seem neater and more organized and there are lots of deals EVERY DAY if you look for the right tags. I was excited when Hobby Lobby was opening, but let down the few times I went inside. I definitly like Michaels better and my favorite checker Kyle is awesome. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is its infuriating to get in a long line and see only one checker ... and nobody comes up to help. read more

I have been shopping in this store for a long time, however I will not be back! I was shopping for art supplies and was not quite sure what kind of acrylic paint medium to purchase. I had three large bottles of product in the top of my shopping cart trying to make a decision. I had my headphones on talking on my phone trying to get information about the products, when all of the sudden I was interrupted by the middle aged short blonde employee, informing me in a very accusatory tone, "Ma'am, merchandise needs to be in the bottom of the carriage". I have never heard such a thing! I have never been so insulted! Not to mention there were other shoppers that heard her. I believe she was insinuating that I may have been trying to steal something. I have never, ever shoplifted in my life and was horrified by her behavior! This place is extremely nice to shop, especially in comparison to the dingy hole it was before where it felt like you could probably buy all sorts of unscrupulous things in addition to your craft supplies. The new location is brightly lit with lots of space and it's generally easy to find what you need. People are rarely on the floor so if you need assistance, it does require hunting someone down, but they're friendly enough about it usually. The only employees in here that have been ho-hum at times are the gals in framing -- I've only had one positive experience with them. Not sure what it is about that area that leaves them so sour, but I feel anxious every time I have to venture there for assistance because I feel as if I'm a horrible inconvenience that is making their day worse by just standing there and breathing. Now that I have moved away, I will miss this Michael's. Especially the motorcycle-riding older dude whose name I can't recall that always belts out an enthusiastic "HELLO AND WELCOME TO MICHAEL'S." He is so incredibly upbeat, friendly, and helpful which has always been really nice. Some of the cashiers are sticklers about the coupons which is frustrating, but thankfully they aren't all like that as it seems silly to me that when someone's phone refuses to load inside the store for the employee to refuse using a paper copy of the coupon that they have sitting right there. Who doesn't love wandering around Michels for hours? I appreciate that they have a teacher discount and will let you use other forms of teacher ID if you forget your badge (I even used my JoAnn teacher discount card once to prove I was a teacher - ha!). Anyway - I have nothing bad to say - just wish I had more time and money to go here more often :) read more

Since they moved to a larger building, we had 3 separate times we couldn't get help and the staff acted as if we were bothering them when we asked for help. Today Is my last time shopping at michaels!! I had a sentimental picture that the manager stated he could make fit into the frame. After a half hour wait, he show me the finished product- he used the wording at the bottom of the picture as the border- it's unbalanced and the wording isn't visible- I asked if he could fix it- no! When I got upset, he simply turned his back! I asked my friend, "is this really it" the female cashier barked, "you need to wait your turn" she became argumentative, stated they don't cut pictures and insisted this didn't happen nor were we charged- yes we were! She refused to give me any refund and said have a nice day!! I'm still in shock how I was treated and how the manager just turned his back avoiding conflict- I was quiet, I didn't yell, etc- I just wanted it fixed! Not only did I waste 80.00, my sentimental picture is ruined- visually unacceptable!!! Never again will michaels get another opportunity to provide such poor customer service and treat me as if I'm a bother!!! read more

This Michaels is huge. It's put together better than their previous location. I do find it odd a lot of the stuff they are missing though. Decent sales and I use the coupons on the mobile app a lot. The people who work here are way beyond friendly and helpful. If they can't answer your question they'll find someone who can. If they don't have what you are looking for they will tell you who carries it. read more

Today I went into Michaels to grab some beads to finish a necklace as I was waiting in line, which I don't mind doing... A woman in front of me with her two kids and two carts where in front of me, she looked at me and said, please go ahead of us, you only have a few things. I thanked her told her I wasn't in a hurry it was ok, she insisted so again I thanked her. As we all waited and older couple in front of me said the same thing. I again said it was ok I would wait and again, was insisted to go ahead. I'm usually letting someone go ahead of me. This was a first for me, I wasn't in a hurry but it was nice to feel the kindness of others. So thank you to the woman and her kids and the couple for showing me that even with all the hate I've seen an experience we can still show kindness to each other. read more
