Fun stop for a drink and some food. We stopped by fairly late for some food and a couple drinks.Unfortunately they had stopped serving inside, but did offer an amazing Taco/Burrito/Quesadilla street food station outside. The carnitas were amazing and watching them prepare the Asada while waiting for the pork looked amazing as well. We ordered outside and were able to eat at the bar with our drinks. They stay open even after the bar closes which is great. I cannot comment on the actual bar menu as we did not see it it or try anything from it. Inside was busy and had quite a diverse group of people. The main room with the bar was where we sat (at the bar). They had a great selection of beers on tap and many more in bottles. The whiskey selections was excellent and truly know how to make a proper cocktail. The back room had a DJ and the dance floor was packed with happy dancing people. We didnt spend anytime in the other parts of the bar as we just walked through to see, but there was a lot of energy and the staff we interfaced with was great. Only drawbacks are the mens bathroom is a funky layout (not for the timid) and that there was a cover charge to get in on Friday night with no live music. I am guessing that was for the big wine weekend and hoping it wasnt a normal thing. This is a great pub on the square in Paso. Food is very good, and the atmosphere is cozy and nice. This is the second or third time we've been there. We went with our 10-year old daughter last night and celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. Yeah, we could have gone to a fancier place, but since we had our daughter with us, we decided this was a better choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our food - with the exception of the very loud drunk girls who were sat (or just decided to sit) at a table near us. They should have been told to either keep it down to a dull roar or call an uber - but they seemed to know the management and for some reason that made it OK (it wasn't). We finished our meal and made a hasty exit. It's a pub, and we know it's a pub (we ordered drinks too!) - so it's just one of those things. We really loved the fried pickles - the breading stayed ON the pickle, which was great! We also sampled the short rib nachos, which were good but my daughter was hoping for a bit more cheese, and a little less "sweetness" on the spare ribs. Good, but not our thing really. I had the brick chicken which has been great in the past, but this time it was just a little on the dry side. My husband had the cioppino, which he adores. We stopped in here after an afternoon of wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised-- not just "pub food," but pub-friendly fare that takes it to the next level. I highly recommend the Mac and cheese-- it's not too heavy, good mix of cheeses, delicious onion crunchies on top, and a small side of crispy Brussels sprouts. Don't eat here around closing time or ever if you do not plan on drinking. The will stick you in the side they are closing while they drag trash cans out in front of your horribly over deep fried fish (which looked and tasted like chicken) to open up a taco truck in front for their late night service. My boyfriends steak was incredibly underdone. No water given, lack of service and bad attitudes all around. The manager covered our meal because of the horrible service but this place left me starving when I really needed to eat. Horrible feeling to have while you are trying to relax on vacation. We had an early dinner there at 4:30 before we went to the light show Sensorio, 4 of us. My friend had the meatloaf and she loved it, I had a bowl of tomatoe bisque soup, it was ok, not great, my friend had a bowl of clam chowder, I think she liked it, my other friend had the Not your mothers grilled cheese. I had a 1/4 of the sandwich, too cheesy and fattening for me, but I think she liked it. We tried to order an order of bread, that was weird, it came barely toasted and no butter. We asked for butter and they brought melted butter. We asked again and got some butter but they clearly don't have anything on the menu for cheese toast or anything grilled. Visited on a Monday afternoon for late lunch/early dinner. The wait staff were very friendly and efficient. My husband had a prime rib dip that he enjoyed. I had Brick Chicken which is a deboned half a chicken with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The veggies right now are roasted carrots and brussel sprouts. The chicken was a small one but that was OK. There was a little too much salt on it which took away from the rest of the dish. The carrots were very good and the brussel sprouts would have been if they hadn't been quite so dark and crispy. I don't want to say burnt, but they were close and not warm when served. I still enjoyed the meal, though it had its problems that could be easily corrected. The real down side is the prices. Our two meals and two beers was $70. read more

My wife and I travel with friends once or twice every year to Paso Robles. We decided to try Pappy Mcgregor's (in my best irish accent voice) upon a tip from a local uber driver. We have eaten at several locations in Paso Robles, but I have to say that this place is now a favorite of ours. First of all, they have the best old fashioneds! The bartender stirs them in a goblet to a perfect chill. He then pours them in a cocktail glass with one big slow dissolving square cube and garnishes them perfectly with a gourmet cherry and burnt orange peel.They are probably the best I ever had and I order them everywhere. I was not expecting much more than bar food here, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The brussel sprouts and steaks and shrooms were amazing. The steak wedge was very good and the carnitas nachos were a hit. This place was so good...we came back 2 days later to end our trip here as we made a mistake in trying another local place that ran out of several things and did not compare to pappys! Now, understand that this is a bar and they make some crafty cocktails, so you may have to wait a tad or you may have to lean in the bar to order your drink, but the quality of the food and drinks is superb! read more

Great place for dinner and drinks in Paso. The atmosphere is great and they have patio seating that's heated. The hostess offered to show us the patio when all the tables were filled and we were skeptical but it was great. I wish she mentioned the right outside the patio is a designated smoking area. I personally can not stand the smell of cigarettes and there were at least three people smoking that night. There a little sign on the window saying it's a smoking area, it really hindered the experience. The food was savory and came out hot! We got the pretzel with the beer cheese and it was amazing. Plus the lobster and Mac and cheese balls. I think the server forgot about us a few times, it took a long time to get the check and our waters ran out a few times. I got the burger with the rib meat (I forgot the name) and the other people in my group got the grilled cheese (they loved the chili). Overall, this is a good place to spend dinner downtown Paso. LOOOOOVE Pappy McGregor's. We stop here on the way to Cambria or way back home to Fresno every time we head to the coast. I try to try something new each time, but their mac n cheese is to die for! This last weekend I got their Prime Rib Chili and it was amazing. For the amount of food and the quality, they're very reasonably priced. Their drinks are good as well. They were recently warned by ABC not to have any dining in their back patio so they only were using their parklet during the stay at home order (which was lifted today...) but they had heaters and it was quite comfortable. The host was very apologetic for the situation, which was obviously out of her control, but she was very sweet. We will be back soon! read more

Ate a very good dinner there this evening. Either the server Lisa did not return my Card that I was using to pay for dinner or I accidentally left it at this establishment. I tried to contact Pappy McGregor's by phone but couldn't. The phone did not have a regular ring and the immediate message for this phone was the "the mail box had not been set up." How can a person get in touch if something like this happens? I took 2 bites and decided that this was an expensive lesson learned for me. I would never go back there. The waitress was kind enough to remove the meatloaf from my bill. After Church we stopped by Pappys for a nice luncheon at one of our favorite restaurants.....I treated myself to a $19.00 Blarney Burger.. Usually spectacular, but this time very sub par....My wife was very disappointed with her soup and sandwich.... My daughter was extremely disappointed with her onion soup which was way over seasoned....however the Brussel sprouts were good.... When you pay over a hundred dollars for a premium lunch, you expect to leave with a smile , instead of a gut full of disappointment... Was here on the evening of Saturday, 06/04. Witnessed one of the security guards drag a woman outside and then physically SHOVE her with all of his weight into her spine, causing her to bend backwards and fly towards the street. He was much larger than she was, and could have taken a much less violent approach to get her outside. Myself and 3 other people witnessed this from outside, and felt compelled to give our information to the woman in case she needs it for a police report. She will likely have whiplash or other injuries felt tomorrow. When talking to her down the street, the owner (or maybe manager?) came to yell at everyone. While the woman was getting into her ride, he told her something along the lines of "go home and get to bed. I wish I was in bed with you but that's not going to happen." We told him we all witnessed what the security guard did, and he said "everyone wants to be a victim nowadays" and started a yelling match with our group that wasn't involved with the initial situation. When someone called the police, the owner (manager?) took off down the street. Posting this so at least there is some documentation of what occurred here. I can appreciate tough security staff keeping the peace at a nighttime bar establishment, but I was really upset about witnessing this whole thing. I hope the girl is physically going to be okay. read more

We were on vacation so I ordered something I wouldn't normally, fish and chips. My honey went with a burger, which he would order anytime. We added a side salad and I think this was my favorite part of our meal. It was plenty large enough to share and topped with lots of fresh veggies. The fish and chips were good, as was my honey's burger. They are located in a nice location, with lots of street parking. We sat on the bar side, which I liked -- not too busy on a Friday afternoon and childfree...just like a bar should be. We started our night off at the Lovely Alchemist Garden just a few doors down, then hit Pappy McGregor's. Honestly it was really busy. But the service was good. They had 3 bars located in the front, a back side ish room and outside. They had a dance floor. The drinks were average and good. The bars charm is dark and that old Irish look. So it fits the style. There were a lot people in different age ranges in the dance floor so that was cool. The bartenders were super busy so it was more fast paced. It was a fun place over all and good fun. I recommend it but it isn't an actual dance club. But it was good for what paso had to offer. read more

We were walking around downtown Paso Robles looking for a place to grab a quick bite and decided to stop into Pappy's. It turned out to be the low point of our weekend! Where do I start? 1) The patio is very inviting on a gorgeous sunny day but for some reason they had their heating lamps on! It was so bloody hot that not only did we relocate but so did 3 other groups during the duration of our meal. 2) The waitress temporarily lost our credit card. She came by to apologize and let us know that she had no idea where it was but was trying her best to relocate it. Luckily they were able to find it but that type of carelessness with customer's finances is highly concerning. 3) I would have been able to overlook the first two points but the thing that really drove this terrible experience home for me is that I got the most AWFUL case of food poisoning from here. It was the only place I ate all day and I'm suspecting it was their raw oysters that did me in. Lots of restaurants near by. Pappys in Paso is a great option for anyone who is not up for the high-end eateries covering downtown Paso. The food portions are fare and the drink selection is intriguing (for whiskey + beer drinkers). I really enjoyed the house made pretzels and cheese fondue. While it is not an actual fondue of cheese, the sauce and pretzel combo are out of sight! Another fun fact about Pappys for anyone from out of town is that it becomes Paso's ONLY club-type party atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. Roadtripping to Paso for a weekend, my friends and I decided to grab lunch. It was my first time ever in downtown Paso. It was such a quaint little area! Two people ordered sandwiches, and two ordered burgers. I got the Jalapeno burger. That thing was GINORMOUS! It came with fries, and the burger was about 8" tall, 6" in diameter. I ate only a third of it and some garlic fries. The fries were delish, but the burger was only good. The spice level was good, but what I didn't go bananas about was the sauce that came with it. It was too creamy for my liking. Service was good. We sat in the back patio of the Crooked Kilt, there was only one other table out there with us. We were afraid they would forget about us, but they didn't. Also, they were nice to us even though we were in a rush (we had places to go!). I suggest to no sit in the back patio. There are flies everywhere! More than anywhere else I've been to in the states! 3.5 stars! read more

For these prices, $16 just for a regular cheeseburger, this food should definitely be better, with a better staff that pay attention to detail. They claim their beef to be Wagyu, I guess it could be, but the parties are way to small to get any flavor from, unless you removed it from the giant buns and half inch slice of tomato. My summary is this: High end steak house prices for a burger.... Served by bumbling ne'er do wells/ try hard, hiding under the umbrella of 'we have an executive chef'. My burger was $12 too much, the wait staff insincere, and you can't coverup your lax attitude, inattention to detail, all the while blaming simple mistakes on the kitchen, or another waitperson who grabbed the wrong order... I forgot to mention that their $16 burger (the cheapest on the menu) patty was probably only 4 ounces pre-cooked. It was a tiny little party. I sent it back the first time for being well done. I ordered it 'medium'. The second burger they brought me was still over cooked. There was absolutely no pink inside. Save your money, go to J's Burgers or In-n-Out. read more
