My family and I have always enjoyed our visits over the past 36+ years to the various Pappas restaurants - Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Pappasito's Cantina, and Pappas Bar-B-Q; however, on Sunday, May 26th, our experience at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in The Woodlands / Shenandoah area was less than what we expected.
Our party of four arrived at 7:00 p.m. and were promptly seated in a booth at the back of the restaurant. Our server took our drink order which consisted of two unsweet teas and two waters while we decided on an appetizer. We inform her that it is my husband's birthday. She brought our drinks quickly with two loaves of bread. We placed our appetizer order - Crab and Spinach Dip. She turned in the appetizer order and returned to our table to take the dinner order which consisted of Mediterranean Salad, Cobb Salad no egg with Fried Crawfish, Grilled Shrimp with Baked Potato, Side Salad, and Boiled Shrimp. All of this was completed before 7:20 p.m.
Our appetizer arrives. As we are finishing it, our server informs us that our food was packaged up and sent home with another large table which was seated in front of us. She apologized and asked us again what we ordered as the kitchen had no record of the original ticket since it had been filled. We repeat what we ordered, and she said a manager would be by to speak with us. She said she is working with the manager to get our food out of the kitchen "911".
Our server refills our drinks and asks if a manager had been by. We said no. She said I am sure they will be by shortly.
The female manager shows up at the empty table in front of us and uses the light on her phone to view underneath the table. She leaves and never says a word to us. We notice the male and female managers walk the restaurant, but never stop at any tables to speak with the customers. They just walk and look. They saw us, but never came over.
Our server checks on us again to tell us the food should be coming soon and asks again if a manager had been by. We said no. She says, "I am sure they will be by when the food is served."
The large group of people who were seated to our left after us, ate their dinner, and departed before we ever received our food.
At approximately 8:20 p.m., our food arrives. The server asks again if a manager has been by. We said no. She said I am sure they will stop by before you leave. It took over an hour to receive our order - unacceptable.
We finish our meal, our server informs us that the manager has complimentary desserts for us as she looked at all four of us. We order two Praline Cheesecakes, a plain Cheesecake, and a Key Lime Pie to go as it is now approaching 9:00 p.m. When we receive the bill, all four desserts are listed with the birthday dessert of $7.95 credited. When we bring this to her attention, she says only the birthday dessert was free.
It is now 9:10 p.m. and on my way out, I speak with both the male and female managers. As I explain to them in detail how the past two-plus hours went, he comments his responsibility was to make sure the food came out of the kitchen. If that is his sole responsibility, then he failed miserably because our original order was boxed up and sent home with another table. The female manager just says "I'm sorry" and offers nothing else to the conversation. I tell them how many times our server asked us if a manager had been by, and we said no. Again, they offer nothing except it is not their responsibility to check on tables, but to make sure the food comes out of the kitchen. The two managers did not speak to any table within our view Sunday night, and we sat in the corner booth with gave us a broad view of the restaurant. The male manager was more concerned flirting with the female waitstaff than checking on his paying customers. He would stop in the main aisle from the kitchen and look at us, but never did he make the attempt to walk over to our table. The female manager just ignored us entirely. They had the opportunity to make the situation right as I spoke with them, but they did not. The male manager continued to have a smug look on his face, and the female manager just went silent - so disappointing. read more
