I went to Pappadeaux on I-45 last night for dinner with a friend, and overall, it was a good experience with a few hits and one clear miss. When I arrived, it was not busy at all, so I walked right in and met her at the bar. She had already ordered our drinks, which I appreciated. She got the Purple Voodoo. Even though it is no longer on the menu, they still made it for her, and she said it tasted the same. I ordered my usual Long Island iced tea, and listen, that thing was made to perfection. Not too sweet, not too dark, just the right balance. Whoever made it knew exactly what they were doing. The ambiance was really nice. It was calm with low lighting and good music playing in the background. It was not too loud, just enough to set the mood without interrupting conversation. It was not crowded, but there were a few people in there enjoying dinner and drinks. It made for a really laid back, after work, midweek dinner vibe. For food, she ordered the blackened catfish with red beans and rice, and I went with fried shrimp, a baked potato, and a Caesar salad. The food came out pretty quickly. Now let's talk about the food. The Caesar salad was amazing. It was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly put together. I asked for extra croutons and extra dressing, and while I did not need the extra dressing, I definitely needed those croutons. That salad alone could have been my whole meal with some grilled shrimp or salmon added. The baked potato was really good. It was large, filling, and loaded with butter and cheese. My only critique is that the cheese was not melted. It was more like layered on top in ribbons. If they had warmed it just a bit to melt the cheese, it would have taken it up another level visually and in texture. Now the shrimp. It looked good, but it did not deliver. The breading did not do it for me, and it tasted pretty bland, like it was missing seasoning. Especially compared to how well seasoned and perfectly blackened my friend's catfish looked, the shrimp just did not measure up. That was definitely the miss of the meal for me. I did not taste the catfish, but it looked incredible. It was beautifully plated and a generous portion. My friend ate more than half and took the rest home, which says a lot. Service was exceptional. Attentive, friendly, and smooth from start to finish. Overall, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10. The drinks, service, ambiance, and that Caesar salad carried the experience, but I would skip the shrimp next time. read more

Been awhile since we ate here but we were hungry after a morning doing some medical tests over at the hospital. We sat at the bar, always easier than waiting for a table and the busy service staff in the dining area. Our server at the bar greeted us and took a basic drink order to start. After he brought it, we looked at the menu and decided on some alcoholic drinks and an appetizer. But it took a bit to get our server's attention, he was buy wiping down the other end of the bar area. We finally ordered and it didn't take long to come out. The calamari was good and they add in small bits of fried octopus which was tasty and tender. Our lunch soon came out, I had the grilled oyster appetizer and a house salad with what he said was an Italian creamy vinaigrette. For me, the oysters were way over seasoned, perhaps salt and spices and were a bit over done, like they left them under the broiler too long. I was glad there were only 6 since they weren't really good. My salad came loaded with stuff, should have asked but I figured a house salad would be lettuce and maybe some other field greens, tomato, a cucumber and dressing. But this was loaded with bacon (which I don't eat at all) cheese, onions and huge croutons. I scraped all that stuff of to the salad part and took one bite and found the dressing so sweet as if it had a ton of sugar. I let our server know and asked for a salad without all the stuff on top and jus oil and vinegar. My wife had the fried shrimp platter which was quite good but OMG, there must have been a pound of French fries on the plate. She couldn't finish all the shrimp so I added it to my salad! Overall, we both agreed that maybe it's because we don't eat out a lot and do most of our cooking at home, but the food was in general over seasoned, even too salty and my wife almost always adds salt to what she serves herself at home. Restaurants have all had to increase prices since the pandemic, our lunch ended up being just over $100 before tip, guess we won't be dining out too soon. read more

Unfortunately, as time has gone on the service has declined and the menu has thinned. No crab legs at Pappadeaux anymore? Multiple reasons have been given over time. The shrimp is fantastic., I will give them that, for the prices, they should be. Tried to order an Aperol spritz and was told they do not serve those. No prosecco or aperol? It's a very simple drink, even Cheesecake Factory has them. Odd. For the money, find a better seafood place that is not a chain. read more

My stomach hurts 15 hours later. Backstory, The Woodlands,TX, restaurants were having a lot of patrons indulging too much with drinking, so their solution was to water down drinks! I get it! I absolutely love this place. We chose self parking which was super easy. I had no idea you could make reservations as long as you give 2 hour notice. We didn't make reservations but the wait wasn't too long. My husband and I dined here for our birthday celebration. We had the pleasure of having Charles serve us. He told us about the specials and gave us guidance for our fruity drink choice of the evening. We selected "Life's a peach". It was very fruity and tasty. The restaurant was packed but not loud or chaotic. There was such a smooth flow about the evening which made the night even more delightful. For starters we had the crawfish and shrimp fondue. Well if you want seafood that's a little close to New Orleans this may be the place. Notice I said close. The food is real seafood and don't taste rubbery. Sometimes the food may lack a little seasoning but overall it will do for Texas. We used to go here often when I first moved to Texas over 20 yrs ago. bc my family who visited approved of the seafood. It still holds it's quality of seafood. I also like the fact that it's a great spot to gather for little occasions like graduation dinners. My aunt liked it so much she drove out here to celebrate her 60th birthday over 10 years ago. She has since passed but I enjoyed looking at the old pictures and sitting in there reminiscing on good times. It still holds true to it's name. Started with the hot honey gator bites, just ok, preferred the old gator bites. Our entrees were the grouper and catfish. My husband enjoyed the catfish. I thought the grouper was ok. Our server, Jade, was sweet and nice but new or having an off day. Asked for a wine pairing recommendation and her recommendation did not pair with my meal. She forgot my husband's soda, and he had to re-order it. Shortly after delivering the entrees, she was asking if we wanted desserts. We decided to go to Pappadeaux and noticed an empty table along the side of the bar. There were no signs or any indication that the table was reserved. When we sat down, a staff member (older African American lady with glasses - dark skinned) approached us and told us the table was reserved. She then walked us to the front and told us we would have to wait there. After bringing us to the front, she stood nearby with a group of girls who stared at us, which made the situation feel uncomfortable. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for our food. During that entire time, no one ever sat at the table she claimed was reserved. The way the situation was handled made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome, especially since I was there with my children. The staff member, a woman wearing glasses with her hair pinned up, spoke to us in a way that came across as rude and dismissive. Traveling for work in Houston and I had to stop at one of my favorite places to eat, Pappadeux.....I'm shocked about the consistency of this place over the years and in different markets. The food was absolutely amazing. I may not be able to eat for the week after this delicious meal. I went with the crawfish etoufee with dirty rice and fried crawfish. They call this the Crawfish platter now....and wow, absolutely delicious. If your looking for southern flavors, look no further than this dish....and to make matters worse, we ordered the cheesecake with extra drizzle, the banana pudding and the sweet potato pecan pie a la mode....what??!?!? The cheesecake was solid but the banana pudding was as great as I can recall and the sweet potato pecan pie was out of this world. I mean seriously, who thinks of these things! Bravo. With great prices on their menu, you walk away feeling like you stole something. We were celebrating our March birthdays in our group and we decided to go there. We have a party of 12 people. It took 30 minutes to get waters and a whole hour to get our drinks and bread. Another hour to finally get our meal. We got there at 6pm and left at 9. My complaint is for the length of time it was taken since I was hungry when I got there. I almost didn't get the alligator bites because the waiter told me they changed the sauce from the brown sauce, to a sweet, spicy sauce. It was DELICIOUS! I lost my mind on the flavor. Kudos Chef to the new sauce. It was AMAZING! Next, I had the BEST & BIGGEST CRAB CAKE I have ever had in my life! My taste buds were overwhelmed by the freshness and deliciousness of each bite! Lastly, I had the blackened catfish and shrimp which was very, very tasty and FRESH. And the red beans and rice were so delicious too. They too were the best I had ever tasted. OH MY GOODNESS! I have not had so much good food in one meal in such a long time! The other patrons asked what I was eating. I ohhh'd and mmm'd at with every bite. The waiter attended to my every need and the manager was so so sweet. She heard how much I enjoyed the meal and gave me a sweet potato pie with pecans to go. I didn't care for pecans in my sweet potato pie but accepted her kind gesture AND I had no room to eat anything else! Our experience today was HIGHLY disappointing. Our family has supported Pappadeaux's for 40 years and the Conroe location from the moment they opened. Today- we ordered 2 salads--chopped salad with chicken fingers and a seafood salad. We waited and waited and waited---the people behind us who were sat AFTER us got their food and we continued to wait- without explanation. We kept being promised that our SALADS were on the way. When they came- it looked like someone threw them together. My husband's seafood salad was a portion of sliced lettuce- not a wedge- but a bowl shaped thing- that was deconstructed- all of the toppings were arranged around the bowl. We asked to see a manager. The waiter went to the manager and had a long conversation with her and she rolled her eyes. She walked to our table- unfriendly and stern as she muffled her name. I asked her several times to clarify that her name was Shelby. This manager was not only unfriendly- but made excuses as to why the pitiful looking salads were ok---she actually said that the seafood salad changed- I told her that had Ruben told us that- specifically- when my husband ordered it- he WOULD NOT have ordered it. She had a horrible- unprofessional attitude and then accused my husband of raising his voice at her- which he did not. That was offensive. She lied and had no problem doing so to save face with herself and the waiter. We decided to leave. Not sure if we will ever return. Pappadeaux---you have to do better........ I want to start this by saying that you can judge the class of a restaurant by the class of the staff and management team, and how they handle the little oopsies that will inevitably occur. I am giving this Pappadeaux a 10 on class. My son and I stopped in for lunch on our way home from Houston. I ordered the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp with fries and, of course, sweet tea. My son had the fried crawfish and crawfish ettouffe with dirty rice and a water because he is better than I am at consuming water. His meal was perfect. Huge portion size. He loved it. My meal had a little mishap. I won't say what as I don't deem it important. Things happen. We're all human. However, I discreetly asked for my waiter and explained the issue. Now what happened next says EVERYTHING. He immediately acknowledged the issue, apologized, and removed the plate to have a new one made. In the meantime, the manager (a pleasant gal who was very polite and professional) visited our table and apologized and went above and beyond to make the mishap right. My meal arrived and was so delicious. While typically the food is the most important part in my reviews, this time it was not. This time, I gave full stars for the professionalism and courtesy of the server and manager. Things are going to happen, and when they do, the most important action is how the situation is handled. Every server can learn a thing or two from our server. I know I am probably about to butcher his name, but I believe it might have been Keshawn. The manager, who told me her name, but I forgot, should be training all managers on how to be the beacon of professionalism. read more

Pleasant time at Pappadeaux Two of us came here on a Tuesday for my birthday lunch. We arrived just before noon and were seated right away, taking advantage of the light crowd. Service was prompt and attentive throughout our stay. The complimentary french bread was perfect...especially good with a bit of the whipped butter. My entree, the crawfish platter, was cooked to perfection. The etoufee was delicious and the fried crawfish tails were lightly breaded, hot and crispy. The dirty rice on the side was a nice compliment. We finished off the meal with a complimentary slice of decadent cheesecake. My family really appreciated that the server instructed the kitchen to split a meal for 2 people without us having to ask. That stood out to us as top notch customer service. And even with splitting a seafood entree, the portion size was just right. It was the perfect amount for 2 people. The restaurant is enormous - we didn't have reservations for a Friday night so intentionally came late afternoon and even then, the place easily had 25+ tables already occupied. Within the hour, by 5pm, the place was easily at 75% capacity. I typically don't like crawfish but having tried Étouffée and fried crawfish here, I am now a fan!
