We went to dinner here on a Friday after work. We were seated right away but it became very busy. We ordered chips and salsa which were delicious. Then we both ordered the chicken quesadillas with shredded chicken which came out quickly and was also delicious. We ended with fried Mexican ice cream which was good too. Overall good experience with quick and efficient service. We didn't drink but the selections for alcohol looked amazing. I was hoping they had Mexican Coca Cola but they did not. They were setting up the band for that night. We will definitely be back. read more

Papi Grande's - Mexican Near Me - Amherst, New York

Sadly, we revisited Papi's this past weekend and the quality of the food was drastically worse than the last time we were here. We ordered the SAME food. The guacamole had the consistency of being pureed in a blender and the taste- well, it was strange. My boyfriend described it as having been "stirred up in a mayo jar." There was a strange, lingering mayonnaise taste with each bite. There were also stringy, mushy pieces of cilantro stems, which to me shows they weren't using fresh ingredients when making this. The tacos were nowhere near as good as they were last time. My taco shells were barely filled. Mushrooms cooked down to mush- maybe leftover from the night before or just left on the burner all afternoon? Disappointing for sure. I doubt we'll return. I left my original review below for comparison. **** Original review: My boyfriend and I had spent the day at Beaver Island State Park and were heading home and starving. We decided to make a quick detour for something to eat and he chose Papi's. Had we glanced at the Yelp or Google reviews we probably wouldn't have stopped, but I'm glad we did. The complimentary chips and salsa were ok. The salsa was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the chips were a good weight, texture, and taste. We decided to order the guacamole and- wow- you get a TON for just $7!! We've ordered guac and chips at other restaurants and you get maybe 2-3 tablespoons. But this was over a cup of guac. It had a good taste and texture and we really enjoyed it. We both decided to get a couple tacos. My boyfriend ordered the Hermano & Arabe. He really liked the Hermano and wished he had ordered another. I went with the Funguy (this is vegan, it just isn't marked on the menu) and the Calabaza (vegan without the cheese). The waitress was really helpful when I told her I was vegan. The Funguy was over the top delicious. Calabaza was good, but paled in comparison to the Funguy. I think it really needed something else to round out the flavours. I'm not sure how this place is rated so low on Yelp but I'm glad we stopped in. If we're in the area again and craving Mexican we'll definitely be back! read more

I normally don't feel the need to leave a review after dining, but I had such an amazing time at papi grandes this evening I had to share. Our server Lyla was the HIGHLIGHT of the night she was so personable and sweet and very attentive to our table. She recommended the birria tacos and they were amazing! I haven't been able to find birria tacos in buffalo so I was very excited and they did not disappoint! We got the churros for dessert and they were nice and fresh. The music was fun and the vibes were good, perfect for taco Tuesday. I cannot thank Lyla enough for the fun and great recommendations. I will definitely be returning!! read more

Made the mistake of stopping in on a Friday afternoon. It took the bartender 10 minutes to even acknowledge me. I ordered a beer and nachos. When I hadn't received my food after 15 minutes, I asked, politely, again for the nachos. I was admonished that she was taking care of the restaurant and the bar, and that she was the only one there. I paid for the beer and walked out. I don't need lip, just service. They'll never see me again and I will spread the word! read more

We just walked out after waiting 30 minutes at our table with no service. Not even drinks! We had a reservation for 7:30 and walked out at 8:00. Ridiculous. read more

Dive bar with kind of okay ambiance, very basic food option, and it's seriously overpriced. Our waiter was a nice guy but mostly bungled our order and needed a reminder to get our chips and salsa. Might be fun in the evenings , the music was great. I wouldn't come back for lunch. read more

I trusted the full parking lot instead of looking up reviews and then after we got our food we realized they were all there for the movies....Waitress was less than enthusiastic and even seemed cold, and after we got the food out we understood why, because it sucks here. We ordered queso, salsa and chips. You could use the queso to caulk your bathroom, the salsa was way too thick ! Then we ordered the Red Beef Enchiladas with rice and beans.... They came out and we immediately said to each other how terrible it looked! Sauce was thick, and looked old or burnt, and they were chicken! Trying to chew the enchilada was unbearable. Beans? Dry. Rice? From a microwaveable bag. Margaritas were good, and my 6 year old loved his chicken fingers and fries.... read more

Stopped in for DJ Trivia and had a good experience. We sat at the outside bar all night, and enjoyed free chips and salsa before we ordered. Luckily caught the happy hour special before 7 so we got $5 sangrias - they were very good! Our bartender Matt, was very great- he gave us good recommendations on what to order and checked on us often. Every time I ordered a drink, he made it right away too!! The salsa stunk, but I liked everything else we ordered. I got 3 of the tacos which were tasty and filling. The queso which we got for free was also very good. Not my first choice for Mexican, but I liked the atmosphere and service was good. Would come back here again! read more

The bang bang shrimp tacos were delicious along with margarita towers. Taylor is also a great server!

I was really confused when I saw that this place had three stars because how can any Mexican restaurant be less than four? Even bad Mexican is good Mexican in my opinion. However, after getting take out from there, I kind of understand why. This was overwhelmingly average food. Most Mexican places are pretty consistent when it comes to the rice and beans, so I was actually shocked at how flavorless these were here. The beans were actually inedible which was super disappointing because this is typically my favorite part of any Mexican combo. They tasted straight out of a can and actually tasted like metal. The rice was just lacking any flavor at all. My chimichanga was pretty tasty though and the shredded chicken was full of flavor. Overall, pretty disappointing meal. The rest of the menu look delicious though so I would like to come back and try some other items. The brussel sprouts were particularly really good but I was very confused to see them on the menu as you don't normally see this at a Mexican place. read more

I may have been here once prior to this past week's visit but it had to be years ago . This time I came with my cousin to grab a cocktail and see an 80s cover band , Invisible Touch. Outside, seating was limited and kind of wet , plus it was hard to hear each other, so we decided to head inside for a bit . I was happy to see I was offered free chips and queso as a Yelp perk, so we ordered that along with a couple margaritas and a couple small tacos. The queso was very thick but satisfying, chips tasted fresh . Margarita was tasty and although I was tempted to get another, I declined . I liked my shrimp taco but it was very messy , needed a fork to eat it . Our server was pretty attentive, which I appreciated. We headed outside to hear the last of the set from the band . I would have preferred to hear them from inside the restaurant than outside in the tent , but was still a fun night out! read more

I absolutely love coming to Papis that's my favorite place to be. Every time I go to Papis I get greeted at the door quickly. I get sat down and love every server that I've had. Service is amazing. I love when I go to sit at the bar for a drink after work and I go see Lucas. Lucas is willing to have a conversation with you about anything but also get your drinks to you promptly. 10 out of 10 food and always willing to go back again and again. read more

We were able to visit this place again last night and actually try the food. I'm not a huge fan of mexican food in general but I did get the queso mac and cheese which was pretty good. Honestly it was just noodles covered in queso but still good. Everyone who got tacos said they were great. One person did order just a plain chicken and cheese quesadilla (specifically asked the waiter to have it made with only chicken and cheese) and the plate came covered in refried beans. Honestly if someone is picky enough to specially ask for a simple quesadilla they don't want it covered in beans. I do like how other places offer less traditional dishes on their menu for people like me who have friends that like getting mexican but have options for those dragged along. That would be my one suggestion to Large Papi. Also! The queso is amazing here! You can add things into it like bacon for an up charge as well. Huge portions too. read more

Ugly atmosphere, cold and BLARING awful mexican or polish music, I couldn't tell or hear after. Lemonade and pepsi watered down very much, complained twice and then said forget it. Then waitress said the manager fixed , then ok, nag the best. No chips or salsa, you had to pay extra. One sheet menu, nothing enticing. My husband ordered a taco for 7.50 open one tortilla with hardly anything on it. I ordered enchiladas, the worst ever, definitely frozen and tasted like cheap package mix. Rice so dry wouldn't stay on fork. Spaghetti sauce definitely use for sauce on enchiladas. Only 2 waitresses, food took forever and came on cold plates. Had to get up and get my own boxes for the garbage leftovers which dog wouldn't eat, so to the garbage. Ask for check finally after sitting for too long, charge more for using debit card than cash. Or events thigh I literally had two small bites of enchilada and one of rice, is had a stomach ache after. read more

Amazing food service everytime! 100% recommend the Birria egg rolls. Never disappoints!

Very inconsistent. Place suffers from a lack of communication between the workers as well. The workers were friendly but lacked leadership. After being seated by the hostess 3 people asked to take my order after already ordering with the first waitress. My date and I ordered the same drink but came in different glasses and both tasted differ as we tasted each other's drink for consistency . The food was above average, but nothing worth writing about. Very disappointed as this was my 2nd time being there and was hoping for more this time. It's safe to say I won't be back. read more

Once we checked in we got a free offer for queso and chips. However, the waiter already hooked us up before hand because we were going to a movie next door. I loved how conversational our waiter was. He showed genuine interest in the movie we were going to see and built rapport with us. He was very attentive to our needs and on top of refills. I got the chimichanga with chicken and my husband got tres tacos. The chimichanga was huge and packed with deliciously flavored chicken and it had a generous amount of queso on it. Yummy. My husband said the tres tacos were okay. There was also a live music playing when we went which I found enjoyable. The atmosphere was lovely, fun, and I would recommend coming here. read more

Great place for tacos and margaritas! Located right near the movie theater and mall, this is a great restaurant to stop at while you're out shopping or enjoying your day. Throughout the month of November they have pitchers of house margaritas for $15. This is an excellent deal! You get about 5 glasses out of the pitcher, so you can share with the whole table and not break the bank. The margaritas are traditional lime and taste delicious. Perfect balance of flavor and tequila. For my meal, I ordered the Stinger Taco and Gringo Taco. The Stinger is a classic Buffalo favorite with chicken fingers with medium hot sauce and steak, along with cheese and lettuce. The steak was a bit chewy, but the rest of the taco ingredients were delicious. The Gringo had taco beef, American cheese, shredded lettuce, and chipotle ranch. The beef was seasoned very nicely and juicy. I liked the tang of the chipotle ranch on top. Don't forget to check-in and you'll get a free order of chips and queso, which is absolutely delicious. The queso is creamy, slightly spicy, and very cheesy. Great experience here and highly recommend visiting with your friends for a night out. read more

The best part about this spot is the outdoor bar seating which is a shame. I normally come here if I got a few minutes to spare before my movie at AMC. The tacos are average. horrible!!!! gave me food poisoning from undercooked meet and expired sour cream never eating here again!

Food was good and my drink was so good- I had to have a second. The menu could use a cleaning. Like a wipe down. My burrito was tasty.

Visited here for the first time today! We ordered margs and queso to start. Got free chips and salsa too! The salsa kind of resembled a pasta sauce in flavor and consistency, but I really like red sauce, so I won't complain! But it did taste a lot different than other salsas I have tried. I ordered a rice bowl with all the toppings but no meat or cheese. Let me tell you....they are HUGE! I was already pretty full from chips and salsa, so I could only have a few bites of my bowl before giving up haha. But now I have plenty of food for a couple of days. And the guacamole was phenomenal! Tasted just like Chipotle's, which is my favorite. The service was great! Our server was very nice and attentive. She kept the chips and salsa coming. Even brought over a pitcher of water without us having to ask. I will definitely be returning for trivia nights and after 9pm deals!! read more

This place could easily be on Bar Rescue. Terrible service, Horrible dirty bar, mediocre food, tacky decor... the list goes on! Yikes!

I've been to Papi Grande's a few times, and I've never had a bad meal there. I like that it's next to the AMC. Pre -Covid I'd go there for drinks or dinner before my movie. My boyfriend and I went there on a sunny day in September, during Covid, because they had outdoor seating. It was nice to get some fresh air! When you check-in you get a FREE side of chips! I really liked the poutine and green enchiladas. The poutine fries were extra crispy, which is awesome, because with the toppings the fries weren't soggy. Win! They always have drink specials or new drinks too! My boyfriend also loved his burrito. We'll definitely be back! read more

Started with chips and salsa. Salsa was average and the chips were perfectly salted. We tried a couple of their single tacos (1 was a ground beef and the other was chicken and cucumber) both were very flavorful. For our entrees we both did chicken fajitas. They were excellent! Peppers and onions were nicely caramelized and the chicken was great. All food came out very quickly as it should have being that it was 2:00 on a Monday afternoon and not too busy. The food was blazing hot, temperature wise, which was a nice change as we usually get our food to go. Crazy Amy was our waitress and she did a great job. She even made a couple of her secret Margaritas that were amazing! We will go back again. read more

*We sat AT THE BAR after finding out the movie we were going to see was completely full. The bartender was really attentive and gave us chips and salsa right away, queso was free with check in. (Check in deal is only good till April.) The queso was actually really good, im really picky with queso since some places really water it down but this was thick and scrumptious. Chips were really fresh. The salsa was just ok. The bf ordered a couple of beers, $5-5.50. My margarita was $7.99 with $1 for the mango flavor. It was pretty good, I'm not a fan normally since some places make them really sweet but, this was tangy. I couldn't see what time HH started as the sign was really small but I could see that they priced their house margaritas at $4.99. We ordered the southwest egg rolls as we weren't too hungry but, very impressive. The southwest rolls came out piping hot and fresh. They were filled with chorizo, black beans, and corn. But I think my favorite part was the chipotle sauce with queso as a dipping sauce for the rolls. Very flavorful but a great app over all and highly recommended. I'd def come back. To everyone that had a bad experience, maybe try the bar area from now? Service was really great at the bar. Cheers! Oh and the free queso with two movie tickets is with a purchase, btw. read more

I've heard some mixed reviews regarding this place, but gave it a shot prior to a movie date with my Dad. We came in on a weekday, which meant lunch specials were happening. We didn't get them, we are hungry people, but they seemed like smaller portions of the regular items and the prices were very reasonable. My Dad got a burrito and I got the green enchiladas. The waitress brought out chips and salsa as we sat down, and BONUS-if you check in on yelp you can redeem an offer for free queso. So check in, fellow yelpers! The food was very good. My enchiladas were perfectly stuffed and the salsa verde was wonderful. The rice served on the side had corn in it and I wasn't mad about that. The dinner portion comes with four enchiladas, and I ended up having leftovers. Overall it was a good experience! I would definitely come back for drinks on the patio in the summer. read more

I came here last night with a friend, before a movie at AMC, which is next door. I checked in on Yelp and this restaurant gave me free chips and salsa. The chips were great. I had a strawberry margarita. I should've gotten a regular margarita. To get the strawberry one, an extra fee was added. I didn't realize that until after I left. (I stupidly ordered a second margarita, which I didn't need. When my friend checked her phone, we only had 10 minutes to get to the movie. I wasted most of the margarita.) My friend and I both ordered a bowl. Basic lettuce ingredients, rice and one other ingredient are part of their $8.99 price. Every other ingredient that you add is an additional fee. I added steak. I wouldn't mind returning and getting only a veggie bowl or getting fewer ingredients. (But I have leftovers for another meal or two, which is great.) This restaurant has a lot of great sounding drinks and food items. (Some sounded too spicy or hot for me, so I opted for the bowl.) Our waitress was Hannah. She was nice and pleasant enough. She brought out our drinks and food quickly. I wish she would have checked on us more often. My friend is gluten free. The waitress checked on what was safe for her to eat and offered a few options. I wanted dessert but was too full. I'd like to return to try some. Overall, I had a good experience at this place. It was worth checking out. read more

Before you decide to visit this establishment you need to ask yourself these questions. Do you like Mexican-inspired food? Do you like a clean restaurant with good service? Do you enjoy good brunch food? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then this is NOT the right place for you. The "fresh fruit" provided with the offerings on their brunch menu was actually a small portion of an extremely low-quality canned fruit salad. The eggs were so overcooked that they were almost as tough as school erasers. The chorizo was cooked to the consistency of crumbled jerky. Everything lacked seasoning! I've been for their dinner service as well and the food is mediocre at best. It is certainly not authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is dirty and flies could be seen assaulting the patrons inside the restaurant. When a server was asked for a recommendation off of their brunch menu, she responded that she does not eat this food but that "People seem to order the skillets." - This was certainly not a ringing endorsement. On a somewhat positive note, although the service is extremely slow and not at all knowledgeable they were friendly enough. read more
