Stopped in for lunch on the day before Cinco de Mayo. There's plenty of parking in the lot of this former Perkins on Transit Road. All the signage was up and they were expecting a good crowd . I met friends who arrived before me so, there were warm chips and salsa on the table when I sat. The waitress was quick to bring me a margarita and a menu. We ordered some guacamole and queso blanco for the chips as well. The guacamole was delicious and had a nice fresh taste. The queso was good and as expected. I ordered the enchiladas supreme which was one each chicken, beef, bean and cheese. All four were good but the chicken had the best taste while the beef could have used a little more flavor. There are many lunch specials that feature the most wanted items at a savings. Everyone was pleased with the lunch. The service was great! I have eaten here before. The dinner crowd last night was surprisingly slow. People staying home because of the upcoming storm? Well service was quick & friendly. The chips & salsa we started with were fresh. My friends both ordered the $5 margarita special & I ordered a beer, a dos equis. We all ended up ordering the same thing, carnitas. That never happens! Anyhow, I've somehow never had that before. This was my very first time here, I loved the vibrant colors and art, even the booths were beautiful. This place was soo good, my new favorite Mexican spot. Even our server was kind and attentive. I love love love it here. This place is always busy, but somehow has room for my party. The place is full, but never too loud to hear the conversation at the table. The chips and salsa are FREE!! I've been coming to this place for a few years now and I always end up ordering the Hawaiian fajitas - they stuff a half pineapple with your choice of shrimp, chicken, or both! I remember they used to have a steak option too, but I bet you could still ask for it. The portion size is huge and they really fill up that pineapple. Because of some food sensitivities, my plate looks a little different with just mushroom and zucchini and pineapple, but it usually comes with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and pineapple. My boyfriend decided to try the Texas fajitas this time and he loved them - the portion was big and he said they were delicious, but he still prefers the Hawaiian one. Our food came out hot and tasty, and we were very satisfied. We went on a Tuesday evening around 5:30, so it wasn't too crowded. Another group came in a bit later and they seemed like regulars - they were friends with our server and having a blast. It was definitely a fun taco Tuesday vibe! Four of us went to dinner last night to enjoy a Margarita and some food from south of border flavor. We weren't disappointed. We started out with the fresh corn chips and tasty salsa to enjoy with our lime and mango margaritas. Then three of us ordered enchiladas which was served with the expected beans and rice. We each enjoyed a different variety from chicken to an especially tasty Tecas enchilada that was a vegetarian delight with poblanos, onions and corn covered with enchilada sauce and cheese. Our fourth diner ordered pork tamales and was very satisfied with the flavor. For dessert we shared a flan which one of our diners, more experienced in Mexican cuisine, said was very authentic. I went to la Tolteca for dinner last week with some girlfriends and had such a fun evening! We walked in to this cute authentic Mexican place in Buffalo and were greeted immediately by the friendly staff! We were seated immediately and just in time to order some margaritas for happy hour! We started off with some chips, salsa and queso which was delicious!!! Always a must for me when I go for Mexican! After reviewing the large menu, I decided on the enchiladas with chicken! They came also with rice and beans which was the perfect paring to my enchiladas! They were delicious! The portions were so large too that I had leftovers for lunch the next day! My mom ordered the Hawaiian fajitas which actually came in a whole pineapple! It was such a fun way to present a dinner and it looked so fancy! Worst service ever. Got in line and was told there was 25 minute wait. We waited OVER AN HOUR and THEY DIDNT PUT US ON THE LIST. We then got seated and waited about 40 minutes for our food. Free chips & salsa come out to your table complimentary, which is nice &from my experience pretty standard at dine in Mexican restaurants. But, the salsa was pretty bland. My older brother ordered queso because he doesn't like salsa, and it was super thin and just dripped off the chips. I ordered a shrimp & vegetable dish with a tomato based sauce. The tomato sauce tasted like canned tomato soup which was not pleasing to the palate. At least the shrimp and vegetables were well cooked. This place is great - fun atmosphere, huge menu, delish food and drinks. The free chips and salsa are a nice touch (just wish the chips had a tiny bit of salt....). I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this place yet as it's my favorite Mexican place around! I have been coming here for years and I keep trying the new places that open but they can't compare. My only issue with here is that sometimes they are really busy. Their salsa is so fresh and the best I've had. La Tolteca is one of my favorite Mexican joints in the area. I came here for lunch with my mom and stepdad and we were seated right away on a Saturday. We decided to day drink and each ordered a margarita. I ordered a lime, on the rocks marg, which could have used a little more tequila. My mom had a mango marg that she enjoyed and my stepdad had a raspberry marg, which he said was ok, but he liked my mom's mango better. The chips and salsa flowed and the server was very friendly and accommodating. She brought over another serving of chips after we went through the first basket, and it was on the house. I ordered the burrito tonala, which is a complete departure from my usual order. Recently, I have been trying to kick my life up a notch and try new things. The burrito tonala had onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, tomatoes and I chose chicken packed inside. It was topped with queso and green tomatillo sauce and topped with pico de gallo. It also came with rice and beans, which I love. The lunch special was large enough where after I gorged myself on chips and salsa before the meal, and then ate chips with beans, I had a couple bites of the burrito and took the rest home and had another meal with it. I can never resist the chips and beans and salsa. It is just so delicious. Would I order the burrito tonala again? I think I would. I liked the fresh taste and that it wasn't fried. This place is my go-to restaurant. When asked where I would like my birthday dinner I always request to go here, it's been that way for 4 years now. Probably one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the Buffalo area. The food is always delicious and so are the drinks, whether it's a margarita or a daquiri they have just the right amount of booze! For lunch I usually get the 4 crispy tacos (2 beef & 2 chicken) with rice & beans. My wife absolutely loves the fajitas and I'm a fan as well. The vegetable rice with the refried beans, combined with the shrimp fajitas, the flavors of the shrimp, red onions, red peppers, green peppers, garlic etc...all combined just perfect, sipped it down with a margarita with two limes, & a mango margarita with a lime & a slice of orange which was quite the kicker!
