Happy Cinco de Mayo! Fun time today, everyone got a sombrero to wear. Had been to the restaurant when it was on Main St and came once after they moved into this location and was not impressed but that changed today. Chips and salsa were brought over to our table. Started with margaritas, I always get the frozen lime one and it was very tasty. I got the taco combo, too busy talking to get a pic of that one. You pick either corn or flour shells then choose your filling. I had chicken, shrimp & mahi-mahi, served with rice, refried beans & corn pudding. Didn't finish my platter but everything I had was very good. I was surprised by how good the corn pudding was, almost like a creamy corn bread. Hannah was our very pleasant server. When our bill came it was a nice surprise to see we got Happy Hour prices on the margaritas.... $3 off and since it was taco Tuesday it was another $3 off the tacos. I stopped in today for a gift certificate to be used as a birthday present. It was a very quick transaction with a very pleasant bartender. This is one of the few Mexican restaurants that I frequent. It's extremely comfortable dining here as the staff is so friendly, and the chef is so accommodating. I really wanted to like this place but it was so disappointing. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and I think they actually forgot the tortillas. It was just a pile of melted cheese. I am not exaggerating here, I literally dug through the cheese looking for tortillas but there was none to be found. I like cheese but I don't want to eat a giant pile of it with nothing else. Heard good things about this place, knew we'd be in EA today, so decided to try it for the first time. Arrived at 4:30p Saturday, seated promptly (there was one party waiting by the time we were headed out.) Inside is very nicely dressed in vibrant authentic-looking Mexican decor. I loved the chairs and tables, the colorful tile-trimmed tables just give happy feels. Our server, Jordan, was fabulous, great energy, friendly and attentive, also refilled drinks and brought extra napkins without being asked, check and check. The boss stopped by to say hello and gave 13 y/o a little talk about the importance of math and science at school. On to the food: Free chips and salsa for the win. The 13 y/o loves Loganberry and beef and cheese tacos with sour cream, so that was easy peasy, he got what he likes without having to order off the kids' menu. I had shrimp skewers with rice and pineapple salsa- I could pick at pineapple chunks all day, but the side of jalapeño jelly was so good, and added a nice, not spicy/sweet flavor to the already well seasoned shrimp. Hubs got a combo with chicken enchilada, pork taco, steak faluta, it also came with beans, rice, pico, guac, sour cream, jalapeño jelly, and another dipping sauce (I'm not sure what it was, I just know that was the spicy one.) The food was so good, huge portions, fresh and delicious. We will definitely add this place to the repertoire. I have to mention, I was shocked by the 3.6 star rating on Yelp!, no frickin way, don't listen to the haters! Hubs, 13, and I waited for the check, and read through a bunch of the 1-3 star reviews, disagreeing with every single one of them, but also making sure that I knew what I needed to tell my readers before they made a mistake and didn't try this place. After seeing a picture of their monster burrito, how could you not try Arriba Tortilla? We tried the enchiladas, veggie monster burrito, and some stuffed quesadillas. The commonality in all three dishes was lots of cheese and huge servings. The monster burrito could easily feed two people. In terms of flavor, at least for the veggie monster, it was very bland. It was packed full of vegetables that were well-cooked but had little flavor. The rest of the food was good but not outstanding. Chips and salsa were good. All the usual Mexican-American selections plus a few creative menu items in a colourful atmosphere at this restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly, forgot to bring the hot sauce I asked for but I ended up just fine without it so I didn't really try to get her attention, and otherwise she was attentive enough. I tried the veggie tomatilla flatbread. It was like an open-faced quesadilla. The tomatilla sauce was delicious (but salty), and I liked the assortment of veggies. Super cheesy. The tortilla was not sturdy enough to support the weight of all the toppings so I had to fork-and-knife it. I enjoyed this; it was different and kind of fun. Huge portions. I ate 5/8 slices of my flatbread. I was with my parents who ordered 1 taco each and that was enough for a complete meal for both of them. While it doesn't stand out to me compared to similar Mexican-American restaurants, it was good and I would consider stopping here again if I'm driving through again. read more

My boyfriend, his aunt, and I went to lunch here on a Saturday after the Roycroft Fall Festival. This was my first time here and I immediately loved the space and how it was decorated. The chips and salsa were good and the service was great as well. I ordered the chicken taquitos, which I really enjoyed. I haven't been to every Mexican restaurant in the area, but this is the first one that had taquitos on the menu. It came with rice and refried beans. They were very good. I opted to not get additional cheese on top. My boyfriend had the chimchanga, and liked it and Aunt Janis had a beef taco. It is a little pricey here. Enjoyed our visit today for my son's birthday. The 30 minute wait was worth it, although I would like to see the restaurant take reservations. That's the only reason for taking one star off. Tried the portobello fajita and it was so delicious and so filling. Came with 5 tortilla and could barely eat two tortillas stuffed with the veggies. Another wonderful lunch at Arriba Tortilla. I loved the shrimp and lobster quesadilla. It was perfection. Nice crispy on the outside, gooey goodness on the inside. The shrimp and lobster quesadilla comes with a perfectly spiced chipotle sauce, salsa, and sour cream. My fellow diner had the chimechanga with steak covered in queso, it comes with refried beans and rice on the side. We both needed take home boxes. Large portions. Our waitress (Hannah) was excellent. Stopped in for a late lunch while in East Aurora and what a surprise. Sat at the bar which was quiet had a taco trio. All three, beef, pork and mahi were very tasty though the amazing thing was the size of them. One was very filling. Really liked the corn casserole. I was served promptly. After a long day of Christmas shopping, and still coming down from a Bill's win, we decided to end our afternoon with a drink and some snacks from Arriba. What a good choice! We each had a white sangria - which was boozy, fruity, and delicious. We split the chips and salsa, and added on some queso for good measure. The salsa was spicy and homemade and addicting. The queso was gooey, flavorful, and probably one of the best quesos I've ever had. We then split an order of taquitos. The taquitos were filled with shredded chicken and gooey melted cheese. I've gotten take out from here more than I've eaten in - fairly often during covid as my family loves it here. The apps are great, guacamole has really good flavor and so does the Queso, nachos are HUGE! Ordered a frozen margarita for the first time in years since everyone else did at my table and it was okay. I got mango, someone else got peach and 2 got strawberry. There was easily a difference between the strawberry and the other 2 where the strawberry was thicker consistency with less alcohol (prob premade) and the peach and mango were stronger and mine unfortunately was filled with huge ice cubes. Food has large portions and flavorful. Definitely recommend getting the chimichanga or the burritos covered in sauce (I chose queso). Large parking lot off Main Street, bar area is usually pretty packed when I've gone in. BFF's husband and my husband don't particularly care for Mexican food, so when we have occasions involving going out to dinner without them we head for the border, so to speak. I'd been wanting to try this place for so long. Glad we finally made it! Busy place, which was surprising for a Monday night. While I waited for my friend I couldn't help but notice a guy bustling around, at one point even wielding a broom and dustpan. Come to find out - he's the owner! What a joy to see the boss actually working. That lets me know he's truly invested in his business. I of course had to start off with a margarita. It wasn't the very best I've ever had, but it was good. (Good enough that I had a second one!) Our waiter was a total pro. When companion inquired about a tequila recommendation, he had the owner come over, as he's quite the authority on tequila. After a little conversation about her preferences, he made a suggestion, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The menu is pretty daunting. So many choices. I opted for the monster shrimp burrito, and monstrous it is. Besides shrimp, it was loaded with lots of other goodies, like beans and corn. And the sauce on the side was so tasty. Friend ordered a combo platter, another giant plate of food with a little of everything. The perfect choice for those who can't make up their mind. The space has a nice authentic american Mexican feel, but If you do not have hours to spend waiting for food and alcohol, I would not recommend. It took over 15 minutes to speak to a hostess. Another 10 to get seated. Another 10 for a server. Another 15 for some drinks. I went to the bar to get a drink and the bartenders ignored me to serve other customers. Arriba Tortilla is a hidden gem tucked away in East Aurora. My family has dined in and gotten take out many times, and each time they bring the Tex-Mex flavor in full force! The restaurant itself is so cute. It's vivid and colorful on the inside and they have a nice patio out back. The service has always been great and our food never takes long to come out. Of course, we always start with their chips and salsa and they're so addicting! I've had their queso and guac as well and both are great. This time around I got the chicken skewers with rice. Loved the rice and the pineapple salsa was so bright and flavorful. The chicken was good, too, however it was on the salty side. A dish I absolutely recommend is the chicken flautas! They are so wonderful and a perfect balance of crisp tortilla, chicken, and cheese. Pro tip: dip it in the pepper jelly for a crazy flavor experience! It's a little on the pricey side so I don't find myself being a regular here but it is definitely a nice treat every now and then. Haven't been here in a long time and don't know why! Definitely a mistake on my part. 8 had the chicken flautist and they were the best I have ever eaten. They where more stuffed than most and fried only to point where they were puffy and a little crunchy. Some places the are very thin, hard and dry. They give you six of them with salsa, sour cream and jalapeño jam, which was very tasty and not spicy. The chips and salsa are really good. Only complaint is drinks are very expensive. The prices are higher than so other Mexican restaurants in the area but very much worth it. All our meals were awesome. They had many unique flavors on the menu. Super fun and festively decorated. Started out with margaritas at the bar which not only were very good but the bartender was great! I wish I could remember her name to give her the credit she should get. My wife and I almost wanted to eat at the bar because of her but it was a busy Friday night and wanted to make room for more patrons waiting for tables. We got seated and because it was our first time, we ordered dinners that had enough food we could have split one. Thr portions are huge! Our stress was an absolute gem, and the management incredible. The waitress noticed we didn't really eat one of the dinners, it just wasn't appealing to our taste, although it came highly recommended by yelp reviews. She asked about it and we told her no big deal it was all on our taste preference's, no reflection of the restaurant. She returned with a discount off our bill after she told her manger. Totally not necessary, super thoughtful and accommodating. We just wanted it to go unnoticed, we had an amazing dinner and got plenty to eat. We added the discount back into her tip. I love Mexican. Even when it's Tex Mex and not really Mexican, which is what this is. But they admit that, so it's okay. There are things on the menu here that I have never heard of. Like corn pudding. I'm from Los Angeles where real Mexican food comes from, and I lived in Texas where real Tex Mex comes from. I don't know what corn pudding is. Our server explained it as some kind of cornbread, but she said they were out of it so we couldn't try it. I googled it when we left and discovered it's a southern thing so I'm kinda surprised I didn't encounter it in Texas, but okay. So upon arrival we were greeted, not so promptly, and seated upon lovely chairs that appeared to be hand carved. Not sure if they actually were but they looked like it. My fajitas tasted good but the meat was sliced funny. It looked more like torn up chunks. My friends tacos were good, she enjoyed them. We shared an order of fried ice cream and it was not crunchy at all. In fact it was very soggy. It tasted good, but the texture was off. Service was fine. Not great, not bad. Had been to Arriba many years ago, when located in their old location. Not out to eat in East Aurora much, so jumped at the chance to go back here. Always love Mexican food. 4 stars instead of 5 only because I have my favorite Mexican "go to" place, and this would have to surpass that. So, no complaints at all, but just not my #1. Starting off with the usual complimentary chips and salsa. Great start. The chips were warm, with just the slighted coating of grease, which made them all the better. The salsa had lots of cilantro, and luckily I LOVE cilantro! The margherita - my favorite - traditional frozen lime - though maybe not the strongest or the most frozen consistency, still called for a second. Their use of fresh lime juice was the kicker. Had to have #2. My friend and I split the seafood (lobster and shrimp) quesadilla. She was disappointed that the taco options did not include her favorite shrimp. But once we saw this, it was a more than adequate substitute. Being on a 12 inch tortilla, we knew it would be more than enough to split between the two of us. Especially with a side order of beans and rice. The rice, by the way, had a nice cumin flavor, which again, like cilantro, is one of my loves in Mexican food. All in all, loved our experience here. This place is my favorite local Mexican restaurant. I'm so glad that they were open on a Monday. Many places aren't in this day and age, or they weren't pre-Covid. Today was my third time eating here. The drinks and food are always great. I had a lime margarita and a veggie bowl. When you're seated, you're given free chips and salsa. The salsa is a bit spicy for me but I dumped the rest of that and the rest of the chips in my box with the veggie bowl. My friend enjoyed her meal as well. In the past, I've usually gotten their nachos and added a meat. Their nachos are amazing and it's always a good choice, if you're into them. Then again, who isn't? We didn't ask ahead of time but the waitress was nice enough to go back and separate our bill into two separate checks. My friend wanted to pay with her card and the waitress had a handy little machine so she didn't have to go back and run the credit card. It was a nice perk. I paid cash. The tables are different than when I've come here previously but it looks nice. They have nice decor here too. Give this place a shot, the food will really make your day!!! read more

Food is not good. Chicken tamale meal - Masa was moist but cloying after a few bites, the chicken was decent though. It needed sauce but the sauce is came with was an Asian fusion which did not pare well. There was a disgusting slaw. The best part was the pineapple salsa. The queso dip was okay. Met my girlfriend for dinner at 6pm on aThursday. The restaurant wasn't busy and we had no wait for a table. There's patio seating in the back and it was nice enough outside to enjoy that! The patio itself could use a little work, but the food was on point. For whatever reason, I ordered the veggie enchiladas. I usually would have picked something with meat, they just sounded like the right thing to get that night! I'm glad I did. The verde salsa was tangy and blended great with the veggies. Sadly, our favorite La Tolteca closed its Hamburg location and so we're now on a mission to finding another Mexican restaurant close by! El Canelo is ok, but we heard about Arriba Tortilla as another option and even though it was a pretty far drive (30min) from our house, we decided to check it out on New Year's day since it was open and El Canelo was not. It's located at the end of a rather deserted plaza with plenty of parking. We were seated right away and began to peruse the menu right away since we were both starving. In the end though, we both just ordered what we always order at La Tolteca - hubby got the steak chimichanga and i got the steak fajita. The waitress served us the chips and salsa right away as most other Mexican restaurants do. We did NOT like their salsa though - it was too sweet. Our entrees took a long time to come compared to our usual experiences at La Tolteca and El Canelo, and there were only a table of 6 people and perhaps a couple other tables of 2. The 2 waitresses seemed to tend to all the tables jointly, but both of them were inattentive and not once did they check on us the entire time - we had to flag them down several times to ask for drink refills, hot sauce, and place additional side dish orders. One of them took a long time wiping down an empty table very "slowly" when the place got busier and it appeared a lot of people were sitting around waiting to order impatiently. When our food finally came, they looked good! The chimichanga came with rice and refried beans, but hubby decided to get a side of queso since he's used to the same dish having queso all over the chimichanga at the other places we frequent. It took a while just to flag down a waitress to order it, then it took at least another 5-10min just to get it - it was super thick and weird and had additional shredded cheese on top. It was also $5 for a 4oz portion! Anyway, the chimichanga was pretty tasty by itself and was not ruined by the overpriced and subpar queso. I ordered my fajitas with mushrooms instead of bell peppers (there was an upcharge). The flank steak was delicious, as were the onions and mushrooms. It came with rice, refried beans, a piece of cornbread (I didn't try it), 4 tortilla shells, and a plate of the usual fixings of sour cream, pico de gallo, lettuce, and cheese. I had to order the "scoop" of guacamole at an additional charge. I didn't care for were the rice and refried beans - the rice was rather dry and flavorless, and the refried beans were really thick and sticky - a very weird texture. To sum up - food was 4 stars, service was 1-2 stars, and value was a 2-3 stars because it was a lot pricier than other Mexican restaurants (our bill was almost double than usual and we didn't even have any alcohol). I'm giving it a very modest 3 stars overall though since we did go on New Year's Day and they could have been short staffed due to the holiday. But we have definitely placed this spot in the "will never go back" category. El Canelo is much closer to where we live and will always be our preferred backup spot now that La Tolteca is closed in Hamburg, and if we REALLY craved La Tolteca, we will make the 25-30min drive out to the location in Williamsville. read more
