Paparmane is such a cute spot in Old Montreal for afternoon tea. The decor is super on-theme and cozy. It's the perfect for a girls' day out, mother's day, birthday. You get a set menu with savoury bites on the bottom tier, two scones in the middle, and desserts on top. The menu changes from time to time, but everything is always delicious. They also have a great selection of teas. It's from the same team behind some of my fave brunch spots (Régine and Janine) so no surprise it's a hit! there's something about afternoon tea that makes an ordinary afternoon feel just a little more special. resos were made for a party of three at paparmane, a whimsical afternoon tea spot near old montreal. we arrived a little before our reservation and checked in. while we waited, we wandered through the tiny gift shop at the front of the restaurant. it isn't large enough to browse at your leisure, so we found ourselves weaving around other guests and being mindful of everyone's space. there were loose leaf teas to smell, pretty teaware, and cute little gifts that helped pass the time until our table was ready. about 12 minutes later, we were seated. one small moment caught me off guard when a party of five that arrived a few minutes after us was shown to their table first and warmly welcomed as vip guests. they looked like they might have been celebrating something special, so there may have been a reason, but not gonna lie, i felt a little like chopped liver for a minute. i laughed it off and didn't let it take away from the afternoon. once we passed through the curtain, the dining room made quite the first impression. exposed brick, blush pink walls, oversized paper flowers suspended from chandeliers, and an enchanted forest mural gave the space a whimsical, alice in wonderland feel. the restaurant stayed busy the entire time we were there, yet it never felt rushed. having enjoyed quite a few afternoon teas around vancouver, i couldn't help comparing the experience, and paparmane easily holds its own. the space is elegant, playful, and incredibly photogenic. each of us received our own teapot with loose leaf tea of our choice in a sachet, along with a timer so we'd know exactly when to pour. oat milk was available, which was a nice touch. our server checked in once to offer more hot water for another steep, but we were only given two small creamers for the table, which disappeared pretty quickly. when the three tier stands arrived, our server carefully explained every item before offering to take a photo for us, something we noticed being offered to every table. it was a thoughtful touch, and the three of us were so excited that it almost felt like the towers deserved a polite golf clap. the food reflected an incredible amount of care. every bite looked like it had been assembled with intention, from the paper thin ribbons of cucumber to the delicate pastries. i could almost picture the chef placing the finishing touches with tweezers. we especially appreciated the balance between savoury and sweet, with enough variety in flavours and textures to keep every course interesting. the two miniature scones were served with a delightful strawberry rosemary jam and a sweet clover mascarpone cream, both of which were outstanding. my only wish was that the scones had been served warm. i also couldn't help thinking that an eclectic mix of mismatched vintage fine china would have suited the whimsical atmosphere perfectly, although i understand why restaurants opt for more durable glassware. one of my friends switched to the vegan afternoon tea after seeing the selection served to the neighbouring table, and she absolutely loved it. we were pleasantly surprised to see a vegan menu that felt just as thoughtful and beautifully presented as the traditional offering. despite the delicate presentation, the afternoon tea was surprisingly substantial. each of us managed just one of the two miniature scones before boxing up the rest to enjoy later. service throughout the afternoon was professional, although it leaned more polished than warm. everything was handled efficiently, but it was missing that little extra touch of genuine hospitality that transforms good service into a truly memorable experience. between the magical setting, beautifully prepared food, quality teas, and generous portions, paparmane offers an afternoon tea experience that's well worth seeking out while visiting montreal. if i could change a few things, it would simply be warm scones, an eclectic mix of mismatched vintage fine china, a little more cream for the tea, and just a bit more warmth from the service. those are small details, though, in what was otherwise a lovely afternoon spent with friends over tea, sweets, and conversation. it's the kind of place that encourages you to slow down, linger over one more cup of tea, and lose track of time for a little while. read more

I was genuinely excited to experience afternoon tea at Paparmane after discovering the café while exploring the beautiful streets of Montréal the day before. As someone who regularly enjoys tea service with friends, I immediately made an 11:00 a.m. reservation, even though the only available seating was at the bar. That didn't matter to me, I was simply looking forward to the experience. The tea house sent multiple confirmation texts, including a reminder to arrive 15 minutes early, which I happily did. I dressed for the occasion, arrived on time, and was greeted at the door before being shown to my seat at the bar. I let the hostess know that the second guest would not be joining me, she acknowledged and removed the additional menu, then I waited. And waited. And waited. For approximately 15 minutes, I sat without a single acknowledgment from anyone on staff. No one welcomed me, explained the tea service, or even said, "We'll be with you shortly." At one point, a waitress silently filled my water glass, but there was still no interaction beyond bonjour. As the minutes passed, I couldn't help but notice that I was the only Black woman in the tea room. I sincerely hope that had nothing to do with the lack of service. I cannot say that it did. But when you're left sitting unnoticed while eagerly anticipating an experience you specifically planned your morning around, it's difficult not to wonder. Rather than cause a scene or ask for attention that should have been offered naturally, I quietly stood up, picked up my purse, walked out, and returned to my hotel disappointed. About 15 minutes after I returned to my hotel, I received a phone call from the owner asking why I had left. I explained exactly what had happened. She responded, "That's what we thought." She apologized and graciously offered to provide complimentary afternoon tea service if I would return. I respectfully declined. While I appreciated the apology and the offer, some moments simply cannot be undone. You don't get a second opportunity to make a first impression, and you don't get a second chance to make me feel welcomed after I've already been made to feel invisible. I arrived excited for what I hoped would be a memorable experience, and beautiful ending to my final day in Montreal. Instead, I left Paparmane feeling embarrassed, overlooked, and less than. This review isn't about receiving free tea or compensation. It's about hospitality. Every guest deserves to be acknowledged, welcomed, and treated with dignity from the moment they take their seat. Montréal has been an incredible city, filled with warm people, memorable food, and wonderful experiences. Sadly, this was the one exception. I sincerely hope Paparmane reflects on the importance of making every guest feel seen because first impressions matter, and mine left me feeling invisible. read more

My fiancee and I didn't have reservations so we were seated at the bar, but we were still able to enjoy the savory and sweet tea services to share! I ordered the masala chai and my fiancee had the pink peppermint holiday tea, and we delighted in all the little treats including scones with mascarpone, red velvet cake, a turkey and cranberry rollup, and a truffle mushroom soufflé bite- all superb! Highly recommend this spot for a cute little moment away from the cold! :) read more

Tea service is one of my favorite things to do, especially for my birthday. When planning my birthday trip to Montreal, I saw paparmane and knew I had to go. They offer gluten-free options, as well as vegetarian and regular. I made reservations for four, and provided information as to the need for two gluten-free services and that it was my birthday. I was sooo excited to spend my birthday eating delicious finger foods and drinking tea. The area is one large room, so the noise level got to be quite loud and a little difficult to hear the servers at times. The food and tea were enjoyed by all four of us in my party. I was a little sad that they didn't do anything special to recognize my birthday. Maybe they got too busy? Who knows. The price is what you'd expect for a higher end tea service. read more

Love this place so much!! We made reservations for 50cad per person for 12 ladies! And they were very accommodating! Everyone was able to order their choice of tea and teatime dietary preference and they even replaced the egg dish for thise who didn't like eggs. Everything was delicious and also so pretty!! They place is just so gorgeously decorated with so many small details we are all in awe! It's literally every girls dream tea time place! Would definitely recommend! The food here is decent in quality and taste, but nothing overly exceptional. The servers are efficient and polite. The tea I ordered, the Mayan chocolate, was not strong in taste. During the meal, a waitress came to the table next to us and began spraying chemical cleaner on the table leaving a lingering unpleasant smell. I understand cleaning and preparing the table for the next customers, but this action was disruptive to our meal. For the cost and quality, I would not return. read more

Inside is a little cramped but decorated super cute and whimsical. Service was good but a little slow. Cocktails were nice to sip on while we waited for our tea. The tea was fantastic. Jean Luc Cavalier and team have done it again!! After the continued success of Regine and Janine, they now present us Paparmane for an elegant high tea experience in a beautifully expressed venue. The inspiration for the decor and design comes in part from Cavalier's love for travel. Consistent with their brand, the level of service is always 100%. The staff was helpful, friendly, and attentive. Their high tea menu is offered in classic, vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan versions. We had the classic but I would be curious to try the other versions! Everything was absolutely delightful from the sandwiches to the desserts. The only dessert that I didn't really "get" was the camomile cream shooter. I loved the caramel popcorn and the pear but perhaps not with the camomile cream. I was recommended the Orchid Oolong Hualala (it's an extra $5) but totally worth it. It's a delicately floral milk Oolong. I even bought a 20g pouch of the tea leaves at the front counter.
