So, what is a Montreal bagel and how is it different from any other bagel? Well, they are smaller, thinner, denser, and sweeter, with a larger hole in the middle than most other bagels. Back in the day, they were always baked in a wood-burning oven. Today, those types of ovens are illegal, so they engaged a team of bagel production experts to reconfigure a cooking process and replicate the test and texture of their old-school wood fire baked ancestors. And their bagels can be enjoyed in eighteen different varieties, and that is a pretty awesome selection. We decided on an Everything Bagel with jalapeno cream cheese (C$5.25) and a Plain bagel with salmon cream cheese (C$5.25). Our drinks were a Small Americano (C$3.50) and a small drip coffee (C$2.75). My Everything bagel was wonderful. Chewy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a subtle "hint of sweetness" taste. It was everything you'd ever want in a bagel. And the jalapeno cream cheese was great. I order this a lot and sometimes I end up with a dissapointingly bland cream cheese with the lightest green tint to it, as though someone used an eye dropper to administer a few milligrams of pickle juice. But not here, there were actual hunks of raw jalapeno in the cream cheese that left no doubt in your mind what you were eating. They sure delivered the old zip I expect in anything with the word "jalapeno" in its description. You order on their assembly line (the servers were great), then grab a table out in the common area outside the store. PRO TIP The store can be tricky to find. It's inside an office building on a lower level which resembles a shopping mall. What a great thing for the office workers to grab some food without confronting the harsh Montreal winter weather. read more

Had to stop to get some Montreal bagels while in Montreal. Walked 15 mins to get them from the hotel. They had pre-made bagels sandwiches or you can get bagels toasted with their cream cheese. I tried the strawberry and salmon cream cheese. I really enjoyed the strawberry cream cheese with sesame bagel. It was really tasty. The egg, bacon and cheese was okay. $21 for all 3 bagels. read more

So here in this interior area of this office building are nested several places, including what is regarded as one of the best versions of the Montreal bagel. They are different than NY bagels, but I love both styles. The Montreal bagel should be wood-fired and smaller and denser than the NY counterpart. But they pack a punch in flavor when done right. This one was great. The ambiance was a modern inside-outside, underground city type thing in the atrium of some office spaces, with the bagel shop nestled in like a typical cafe in a food court. You can pick from a variety of bagel flavors and then a wide assortment of cream cheeses, or a pre-made bagel sandwich, and some other things. I found the bagel to be fresh, even though it was in the basket for some time, and it had a great ratio of cream cheese to bagel. It was a great texture and the "everything bagel" flavor was tempered by the creamy cheese. The only degradation in stars is due to the "oh god, here's another tourist that can't speak French" [I try!] making for rude service, although the other person running the register was more friendly, and even gave a "he's just a pain, ignore him" look. read more

We were in Montreal for the first time and looking for bagels for breakfast to celebrate my friend's birthday. We happen upon this bagel shop in a cute "underground" shopping area. The bagel is different from what I'm used to in the states but good nonetheless the less. There was a slight language barrier however service was efficient and friendly. I highly recommend if you need a quick breakfast fix if you happen to be in the Montreal. read more

Everything bagels is just like poppy seeds with some brunt bitter onion flakes. Salmon spread barely any salmon in it. My wife got sesame bagel with avocado and tomato, 3 small cubes of avocado does not cover even half of bagel and one slice of tomato, $9.14 for that :( Terrible read more

Had a delicious bagel sandwich with ham, Swiss cheese, smothered in a fig cream cheese. The cream cheese was very creamy and silky in texture. The bagel was warm, sweet, and savory all in one sandwich. Customer service was great and they were efficient. Will return when I have a craving for a bagel sandwich. Well on its own a 4*. . But honestly not as good as the (only) two fired oven bagel bakeries elsewhere in Montreal This store was located underground below the Intercontinental Montreal. Underground restaurants and businesses common in Montreal Different from ny style bagels. Texture and fullness. Wife said less flavor than ny style. I actually liked it better. La Fabrique de Bagel is known in Montreal. I have heard of their bagels before coming to Montreal. This was a must try on my list. B and I came here for breakfast. B got the smoke salmon and brie bagel sandwich and I got the smoke salmon and avocado bagel sandwich. Holy moly, it was delicious. I liked how the smoke salmon oil melted into the bagel. Also their bagel was not too dense and not too heavy. It was perfect. You can taste that the bagels are made fresh daily. They have many different bagels to choose from. Lots of yummy varieties. This includes the many different spreads as well. They open super early in the morning. They are located inside the international trade center mall. There are seats outside their bagel shop. A friend once told me that Montreal bagels are better than New York bagels. I'm not going to weigh in on that one, but suffice to say that these were quite delicious. This place is ridiculously cute in underground area of Montreal. Delicious bagels with variety of fresh cream cheeses to choose. Their fruits and smoothies looked good as well but didn't try yet. I had a latte, biscotti dipped in chocolate, and smoked salmon bagel with capers and red onion and took a couple granola bars to go. All delicious. Delicious bagels in an indoor space. We had them with a bacon/maple cream cheese and a chives cream cheese. Both were nice. The bagels were fresh, crunchy on the outside and warm on the inside. These are thinner bagels so not the more fulsome types. Very satisfying. read more

The place is nice and the food is fresh. The server are well trained that make the line go fast. Do not expect the NYC bagels as this is Montreal but they are good. We order cinnamon raisins w/ strawberry cream C. , the chocolate chip with fig Cream c, and the egg and Brie C. . I will say the bagels w/cream cheese is the best choice. I came here after trying to find a hole in the wall coffee shop via the underground path to no avail for an hour. Price is pretty decent. Friendly staff. Bagels were made pretty well too with a nice chew to it, but they were toasted to the point that it was slightly burnt on the exterior. And the espresso in my latte was extremely burnt. And the way they steamed the milk was more a cappuccino than latte. I'd come here for bagels again. Not sure about lattes though. Oh... and it's a take to go kind of place... If I had written this review three days ago, it would have been a resounding 5 stars. Excellent freshly toasted Montréal bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. We went back today, and the experience was disappointing: first, we were offered to pick from premade bagel sandwiches (rather than made fresh) and were told that they were pre toasted (would be warmed) ; they were warmed, but very obviously were not toasted --and I don't think totally fresh; I thought mine had cream cheese, but didn't (they did add cream cheese at no added cost, which I appreciated); and the breakfast was overall nowhere near as good as the first. Fortunately, we have enjoyed Montréal bagels at a number of other places as well, so this was just a one off, but it was our last Montréal bagel experience and I wish it had been better. read more

I stopped by here to grab a quick bagel to maximize time as I wandered the streets! . The bagel was well toasted with cream cheese. Very light and fluffy different than some of the densely packed bagels that you can get elsewhere. Restaurant was clean, staff was nice. It is in the basement of an office tower if you are looking street side because you won't be able to see it from the road. I took mine sat in the park by the Basilica and enjoyed a peaceful breakfast! Bagel was delicious though a tad expensive for what you get. That's why 4 & not 5, due to price. Read a lot of the reviews before I came here - I really wanted Fairmount bagels but I didn't want to make the long trek from where I was staying - especially since Fairmount doesn't have a cafe where u can sit and eat. I was with my 2 young kids and really hope that La Fabrique would measure up to the "MontreaL Bagel Experience" I had been rambling on about leading up to this trip... needless to say- it did! Thank God the bagels were delicious and the cream cheese choices were numerous and not overpowering on the bagels. The pre made bagel sandwiches were good but the fresh bagels lightly toasted (tell your server your desired toasting level) and smeared were far superior. The kids were blown away and the coffee was decent as well. Great service too, they were patient with our jilted and stuttering order as we changed our minds and added items incessantly - awesome spot. Oh and added value is that it's right beside a genuine piece of the Berlin Wall complete with historic blurbs (albeit in French only) read more
