My wife and I ate here for the first time. I had Manicotti Tubes which were medicre. The drinks were very good as was the sevice. The food, however is made for a price and is not the best. We sat in a booth and the ambiance and decor was very nice. We took a peek in the bar on the way out and it was nicely decorated and looked inviting. We noticed a lot of young couples leaving when we entered. It's probably a good place to go when you have a limited budget. Having said this, I wouldn't rule it out. Charissa was our server and she was so funny and friendly, and made sure we were totally satisfied with everything. Incredible atmosphere too. Visited this restaurant Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm for the first time. It was busy but no wait for a booth. Waited a while for our waitress to come to our table. Middle aged lady who appeared overwhelmed but had worked there for many years. I ordered a bottled beer my wife a coke and was asked if we wanted bread which we said yes. The beer and coke came, beer was cool at best. I told the waitress when she came back with our soups. No apology but I said you may want to mention your fridgerator is not working to the bartender but got no response. We never were offered water as all other tables in earshot were. We ordered an antipasto salad to share. It was very mediocre with bits of lettuce, a piece of ham with mozzarella rolled inside cut into 1/4 inch pieces so it looked like you are getting a lot, and some bottled dressing in a small container, a few slices of store bought processed pepperoni. No where near the $17.00 price they charge. Oh when the waitress came by to ask if we wanted a refill on our drinks, we had to remind her that we asked for bread. She brought our bread when we were almost finished our salads. It looked like they took a chibata roll and cut it into one inch nuggets with a small dish of garlic oil to dip. Definitely not Italian bread to go with the restaurants theme. We then were served minestrone soup which tasted fine but some of the carrots were not tender but crunchy. We were then asked by our snarky waitress if we wanted fresh grated cheese on our soup. My wife said oh fresh grated is nice touch but our waitress sarcastically said well I can bring you the cheese shaker if you prefer. Very inappropriate comment. We finally were served our entrees. My wife got the chicken parm with linguine and I got the tortellini in red sauce and added chicken. Food was better than expected but the chicken in my dish tasted like they took a chicken breast cooked it sliced it and put it on top of the tortellini then sauced it. There were no spices on it to add more flavor. I had a total of 3 glasses of Diet Coke. At the restaurant you get one free refill then they start charging per glass, really??? The waitress took forever for the refills and blamed her delay on the bartenders. We ordered a cannoli to go which they claim are fresh filled by the waitress. When we ate it later it was just cream on the ends, middle was hollow but still tasted fresh. Overall not a good food experience, when you walk into the restaurant there is a foul smell which we could not determine what or where it was coming from. We paid $90.00 for 2 for lunch which was not worth what we ate especially the quality. Oh by the way I was charged for the warm beer. We are from NJ and know our Italian restaurants. This my friends is not an Italian restaurant, not even close, perhaps it passes as one in NH, but they really miss the mark. Food Quality, a 3 out of 10 Service, a 2 out of 10 Atmosphere and layout, a 3 out of 10 We do not recommend, nor will be coming back to this establishment. read more

This was our second time coming here. Once again food and service was great! I tried the Chicken Olympia and really enjoyed it. Also had a Pumpkin Martini also great and for desert a Bocci Ball, which is Spumoni ice cream (for those who don't know, Spumoni is Italian ice cream or gelato consisting of chocolate, cherry, and pistachio with chunks of fruit and nuts mixed in, served as a ball covered in chocolate raspberry sauce and whipped cream). We're used to eating in crappy quick-service restaurants when we visit our daughter at Keene. We wanted to find a nice, sit-down family restaurant for her birthday dinner, and we had low expectations when we made plans. Boy, were we surprised! This place is excellent! The ambiance is airy, with big comfy booths. The menu is huge, and I can't imagine that there is anyone on the planet who could not find a good meal there. The red sauce is almost as good as my family's recipe. Absolutely delicious! The Alfredo sauce is perfect. Portion sizes are generous. We tried three different desserts, and they were all great. While we were there, it seemed like everyone was having a birthday. They really put on a nice little celebration for people there, but our daughter swore us to secrecy so nobody would sing for her. It was different, though. And very nice. I dreaded entering the bathroom, because that's where all good restaurants tend to fail me. CLEAN! IT WAS CLEAN!!!!! It was like a miracle. We'll be eating there whenever we are in Keene from now on...which might be more often, now that we know about it. read more

Walking in, this restaurant is very welcoming. The fireplace is gorgeous and the atmosphere was very calming. It is a bit dark, but it adds to the ambiance. Decorated for the Christmas season, it was very lovely. My husband and I were seated quickly and our waiter took very little time to show up and ask about drinks and explain the specials. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to explain everything. He was very courteous and stopped by often, but not to often, to check on us. The prices here were not bad at all and the portions were huge! My husband had the lasagna and I ordered the tortellini alfredo. We were served bread with dipping sauce and given a choice of soup or salad with our meals We both decided on soup. My husband had the Minestrone and I had the Seafood Chowder. Even our soup was served in fairly large bowls. The main course was delish and I'm really looking forward to trying some of the other entrees. I ended up bringing half of my food home because the portions were so big! Of course I saved room for dessert. Ordered the chocolate cake. It was so rich I brought half of that home as well. This would make a great date night restaurant or even an evening out with friends and family. The bar is separate from the dining area and looked like it had plenty of seating. I have never had bad food here. Last night the shrimp was the best I have ever had ! It was very busy but service was fast and efficient .

We 3 came here on a saturday around 11:30 am. We were greeted warmly. The decor is quite lovely. We shared greek salad, calamari frita, manicotti. Minestrone soup and a double expresso. I had a delicious glass of Portuguese wine. The calamari was delicious, soup watery and tasteless. Except for the calamari, the food was bland, and overpriced. The double expresso was $7.98... have never paid more than $5.00!!! Noah, our server, was great- very professional and friendly. We drove 2 hours to visit the Keene area. We had eaten at Luca's in the past-excellent both times. We thought we would try someplace new. Next time, we will return there. Ps- styrofoam!!! read more

I went to Papagallos for the first time in years yesterday. It was for their Sunday brunch buffet. It was $20/person. I honestly think it's a little bit much for what you're getting as opposed to other brunch places. However, there really isn't another brunch buffet in the immediate area to my knowledge. It was what can expect at normal brunch buffet, but no carving station or eggs to order. All deserts appeared to be from frozen. The guy at the omelette station told my girlfriend that it was his first time and didn't know what he was doing. I can't speech for the drinks because they never gave us a drink menu. Having driven by this place numerous times wondering what it was like and why there was a parrot on the sign (turns out Papagallo is parrot in Italian), I finally stopped by and was not disappointed. I was expecting large portions of Italian-American food, of middling quality, and that's about it. I'm happy to report that Papagallo's is actually better than half the Italian restaurants I've been to in the North End, is significantly better value, and has a much better (and unique!) ambiance. There are lots of dim restaurants with candles and small tables that are close together. But I can't say I've ever eaten at a white table cloth in a spacious booth in a cathedral that is inhabited by parrots (none real, fortunately). This is just one of those places you have to see to believe. The service is also pretty good too. read more

Hard to think of what to say about this place that continues to impress so many years later. We stopped in here for dinner on a recent trip home and I was blown away yet again. The service here is always fantastic - and continued to be this visit even with staffing issues present everywhere you go. This visit we started with the calamari, which is consistently excellent - just doesn't get better than they do here. We also opted to share one of the bar pizzas - the mediterranean - which I've never had the opportunity to try before. It was excellent! Tasty crust, great flavors, and just the right amount of food for us to share. This place never ceases to impress - and remains one of the best restaurants in this whole region after all these years. Gotta leave a good review when you stroll in at the end of the night and you are greeted like old friends. Found ourselves in Keene NH on a random Wed night due to a college soccer game for our daughter. It was a chilly September night so we were cold and hungry. Stumbled upon Papagallos and it was a good thing! We were the only ones in the grande restaurant and we welcomed warmly. Had some great conversation with Angelo and some good food too. I ordered the meatball sandwich because, well, it was late and what's wrong with a little heartburn...actually the sandwich was delicious and the fries cooked to perfection. My husband ordered his usual, cheeseburger, no cheese, well done, and it came out perfect! The bartender made some nice full size cocktails and the music brought me back in time. It was a delicious way to top off a bad loss on the soccer field. Will def stop back next time we are in town!! read more

My parents were nice enough to bring me a meal home from Papagallos. I had the tortellini basilico which came with some bread and a salad. My meal was not great and for some reason tasted like fish. My salad had rotten pieces of lettuce and a huge MOTH in it. The only good part of the meal was the bread. After calling the restaurant, the manager was very understanding and was kind enough to give us compensation for my meal. read more

Went to Papagallos last night. It's my very FAVORITE restaurant. They were hopping busy but we made reservations and only waited less than 5 min. Our waitress Cathy was fantastic. Attentive, chatty and helpful. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and inviting. Our drinks were great. The bread and dipping oil amazing as usual!! We had Gondola bread to go. OMG so stinking good!!! He had prime rib, swears it's the best he's ever had (again) and I had Chicken Picatta, my usual but AMAZING!!!! 10/10every time!!! And the bar?!?! So fun and fretful. One of the best places I've eaten at recently. First off, people working here are awesome!!!! Interacted with 2 servers who were awesome, so friendly and helpful. I originally ordered a gyro which came with a good size side salad.. my mom got manicotti. After our order was put in I noticed a woman sitting across from us had chicken picatta which I love...so tried to get our waiter but didn't see him. We were able to get a waitress to see if she could get our waiter... she said what do you need honey, I can do anything you want! She was so funny and nice. Added the chicken picatta to our order and with that waiter came over and delivered manicotti and gyro, she had already told him about add on of picatta and that I was going to wrap up gyro for lunch next day. They were just the nicest wait staff and I regret not getting their names. Nothing was an issue or incoveniece for them, they were so awesome... Hope they read this. Then we put in an order of fried scallops to go along with a chowder. My mom had chowder too and it was really good. All the meals were excellent and portions huge. Ice told several people about Papagallos since going. We will be back just to come here to eat even if we don't do anything else in the area. My one and only complaint was that the cannolis were poorly filled but yummy..they need to make sure the filling is actually in the middle. It was very minimal in the middle of cannoli but ends had a large amount where it looked like it would be that way throughout, but unfortunately in the middle there were air pockets and some areas where no filling. read more

Tried the Minestrone soup and it was too salty. Ordered the Veal parm for dinner, it came on a huge bed of linguine and was way large portion. The veal was very breaded and some of it was stringy, I would not order that dish again The bartender was courteous and professional but I would go elsewhere to find a more authentic Italian cuisine. read more

Me and my dad got a pizza and we're disappointed when we got a totally wrong pizza, it would be understandable if it was something small like only one topping was off but the whole thing was wrong and very gross would give negative starts if that was a option so disappointing read more

Been craving my favorite dish Chicken Parmigiana, found an amazing Italian restaurant today in Keene! The decor was comforting, could use a little less parrots, I know that is the name of the restaurant but everywhere you looked, there they are! But the food o boy, oil and warm bread starts you off nicely! Portions are huge, Chicken parm was cooked perfectly. Our family loved our meals, this is our new go to Italian restaurant. My family, and I had dinner at Papa Gallo's recently. The service is amazing, the food was absolutely delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. We usually have dinner there a few times a month. After not eating at Pappagallos for a couple of years, we tried again......,, I thought it was going to be bad, and it was. We ordered takeout and again, we were missing food. When you pay $200 for dinner, I want ALL the food we ordered! The fact that this was now the 4th time we had to go back to get the missing meals, I would rather eat at McDonalds than Pappagallos ever again. And the food was so/so at best. A family favorite, and a staple for birthday dinners, anniversary dinners and valentine's reservations.

We had dinner this Sunday. Service was excellent, but the food quality was lacking, nothing like we are used to getting. We have eaten here many times. The bread we were served was either not fresh or over baked maybe. It was not soft and fresh feeling like normal. I had the broiled scallops which were fine. My partner had the seafood special which was shrimp, scallops, mussels and calamari in a spicy tomato sauce. We have never seen scallops as small as these were. They were no larger than an eraser on a pencil. Maybe the description should have expressed better, rather than "includes a pound of seafood". The server said she was sorry when we expressed our disappointment in the meal. read more
