I've worked in Canby for a number of years, but it was just recently that I've tried Lone Elder…read morePizza. It took me so long because it looks like the parking lot is a big walk from the front door, but unbeknownst to me, there's a back door that goes to the middle of the parking lot! Then there were the issues of all the bad things I heard a few years ago. But my understanding is that a former owner left, the original owner took it back, rebuilt what was lost, and re-retired, selling to a better vetted owner, and now I'm hearing nothing but good things. And, in fact, I am impressed. It is very good pizza. Over a couple of weeks, I tried three different pizzas. I like pizzas with lots of toppings, so that was my first order. Then I tried a simple meat and one other topping pizza. And finally, I tried a pizza with a moderate number of toppings, plus extra cheese. Pizzas are built with crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings. The cheese usually holds the toppings in place, and if you order from many places, if you order a lot of toppings, they give you less of each topping so they can form a single layer against the cheese. Not so at Lone Elder. You get a full serving of each topping, which means you're going to get your money's worth. And while I didn't really mind that the extra toppings fell off as I picked up each slice (I can eat them with a fork off the box), I was concerned that they seemed to be chopped too big, leaving them substantially cold. That's probably better than over-cooked, limp toppings, but the pile I ate with a fork was more like a salad. The crust, however, was perfect! Crunchy on the bottom, chewy in the middle, and completely baked. Leaving the pizza in the oven longer (to heat the toppings) could have over-cooked (burned) the crust. So the second pizza I ordered had a minimal number of toppings. What I was hoping to see would be the cheese under the toppings peaking through. It did, but there was no browning. Again, the crust was perfect. The third pizza I ordered had extra cheese. I was hoping with even more cheese, I'd see some browning, but I didn't. Again, the crust was perfect. My conclusion is that the oven isn't heating enough on the top. Combine that with a chop on the toppings that's a little too course, leaving pieces that are too thick, and that's how we get to 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Mind you, 4 stars is still very good in my book. I will be returning, but perhaps not as often as I head towards some other pizzas that aren't as good, but that's because of the cost. Even if the pizza got 5 stars in my book, I can't justify the price of a great pizza when I can get okay pizza for half the price. One other thing that bothers me: If you get the pizza delivered, they toss in some complimentary cookies. That seems to be an incentive to get delivery, when what they really need to do is offer an incentive for people to find that side entry, and come in for their pizza!

Very few toppings nothing resembling a Mexican pizza really, literally just a few pieces of lettuce and a couple slices of tomato.. arrived cold and the crust was like cardboard and burnt all around the edges and lacked any flavor. It's been years since I've been to a MOD pizza and I'm so happy we stopped in at this location…read more We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff to take our orders. The menu has changed since we were last in a MOD so it was a little different. I love that it's a cafeteria type line that allows me to choose whatever toppings I want for one price, as long as I don't get anything "fancy". It's a little bit of a wait to get the pizzas baked but that's completely expected. It comes out hot and delicious to the table. For what's considered "fast food" pizza it's SO good! The sauces, toppings, and even the crust is very good! They also have my favorite soda machines here that have a variety of flavors for every soda. Love that!!! The dining area is large, with many tables, and they're spaced out great so that no one is sitting right on top of other guests. This may not be our absolute favorite pizza in the area but it's good enough to come back to when we're in the mood for a quick lunch pizza that we can individually get whatever we want.

Not a great impression but thankfully a pizza was ordered so they did at least get something even if not the sandwich they ordered. The bread was pretty narrow so it definitely looks like less sandwich than you get elsewhere. I also would prefer it if they actually cut the sandwich in half all the way through (not trying to pull apart a meatball sub). It was only okay. I had a meatball and it had melted cheese and some meatballs but was pretty plain. None of these were overly amazing and the portion was small for the price.

I ordered an individual pepperoni pizza and a dinner salad with blue cheese dressing (no cukes, no bell peppers, thank you very much) and as sure I wouldn't be able to eat it all. I fooled myself, didn't I... 'cuz I ate it all! And where are my pics? I always take pics! I think I was too hungry and just gobbled it all down without any pics. Oh well. Here's the description instead: the little individual pizza was covered - covered! - in sliced pepperonis. No cheese underneath was even visible. Perfectly baked, edges of the pepperonis just a little bit crispy, crust to die for, great red sauce and Parmesan cheese on the table made it the best pizza in the area. Maybe even in the entire state. I don't know for sure because I haven't been to all the pizza places in Oregon but it would be hard to find a pizza as amazing as Home Place's. The side salad filled the bowl with lettuce, peas, croutons, shredded carrots & red cabbage with the blue cheese dressing I requested on the side. To say this was a lot of food would not be an exaggeration. There are two sides to this restaurant: a regular dining room and a pizza room with a game area for the kids (or young-at-heart adults). We sat in the pizza side this time where a children's birthday party was getting ready to start. The acoustics leave something to be desired in this side of the restaurant and excited children can be loud, even without the lack of acoustics. It's not the most relaxing quiet dinnertime space but listening to kids enjoy themselves can be uplifting in its own way. The restaurant is clean, the servers friendly and patient, the service is quick, the pizzas hot, the drinks plentiful, and I know I'll be back here soon for another pizza fix.
