I've worked in Canby for a number of years, but it was just recently that I've tried Lone Elder Pizza. It took me so long because it looks like the parking lot is a big walk from the front door, but unbeknownst to me, there's a back door that goes to the middle of the parking lot! Then there were the issues of all the bad things I heard a few years ago. But my understanding is that a former owner left, the original owner took it back, rebuilt what was lost, and re-retired, selling to a better vetted owner, and now I'm hearing nothing but good things. And, in fact, I am impressed. It is very good pizza. Over a couple of weeks, I tried three different pizzas. I like pizzas with lots of toppings, so that was my first order. Then I tried a simple meat and one other topping pizza. And finally, I tried a pizza with a moderate number of toppings, plus extra cheese. Pizzas are built with crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings. The cheese usually holds the toppings in place, and if you order from many places, if you order a lot of toppings, they give you less of each topping so they can form a single layer against the cheese. Not so at Lone Elder. You get a full serving of each topping, which means you're going to get your money's worth. And while I didn't really mind that the extra toppings fell off as I picked up each slice (I can eat them with a fork off the box), I was concerned that they seemed to be chopped too big, leaving them substantially cold. That's probably better than over-cooked, limp toppings, but the pile I ate with a fork was more like a salad. The crust, however, was perfect! Crunchy on the bottom, chewy in the middle, and completely baked. Leaving the pizza in the oven longer (to heat the toppings) could have over-cooked (burned) the crust. So the second pizza I ordered had a minimal number of toppings. What I was hoping to see would be the cheese under the toppings peaking through. It did, but there was no browning. Again, the crust was perfect. The third pizza I ordered had extra cheese. I was hoping with even more cheese, I'd see some browning, but I didn't. Again, the crust was perfect. My conclusion is that the oven isn't heating enough on the top. Combine that with a chop on the toppings that's a little too course, leaving pieces that are too thick, and that's how we get to 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Mind you, 4 stars is still very good in my book. I will be returning, but perhaps not as often as I head towards some other pizzas that aren't as good, but that's because of the cost. Even if the pizza got 5 stars in my book, I can't justify the price of a great pizza when I can get okay pizza for half the price. One other thing that bothers me: If you get the pizza delivered, they toss in some complimentary cookies. That seems to be an incentive to get delivery, when what they really need to do is offer an incentive for people to find that side entry, and come in for their pizza! read more

First and last time I will be ordering from this place. Probably the worst pizza I've ever had honestly. Very few toppings nothing resembling a Mexican pizza really, literally just a few pieces of lettuce and a couple slices of tomato.. arrived cold and the crust was like cardboard and burnt all around the edges and lacked any flavor. Man, that's one expensive pizza! It was ok as far as pizza goes. There are much worse out there. But there's no way what I had was worth $30! And that's for a standard 16" (ish) pie! The place may be in the Pacific NW, an area known for its 'special herbs' - but their certainly wasn't any magic green sprinkled on there to enhance anything, especially to earn the $$ charged. Ordered a pizza for the first time from Lone Elder Pizza. It will be the last time to, the delivery was near a half hour late, the crust was like cardboard, pretty much a tasteless pizza not to mention it was barely warm. Won't be ordering another from them. read more

POSITIVE: Love this homemade pizza! Fresh and loaded with toppings. The crust and sauce are fantastic, a must try. The family dining room in the back, feels like home. Nice and clean, and the staff was very friendly. Kids activity page, and a few puzzles along with TV and a couple of video games, kept the kids happy. We will be back! We tried Lone Elder Pizza at a friends house and it was better than Dominos and here in Canby those are about our only two pizza options. Our friends told us that the customer service at Lone Elder is not that great but I don't think we fully appreciated that until we tried ordering our own pizza last month and then again tonight. Last month we called in a delivery order and were told on the phone that it would be at least an hour before we got our pizza. We weren't excited about that but we really wanted pizza and felt like something other than Dominos. Our pizza did arrive after 1.25 hours and it wasn't as good as we had had at our friends house. Tonight we ordered 1 pizza at 5:55pm and were told it would be here in about 30 minutes. We got distracted and then noticed at 7:05pm that the pizza still wasn't here. We tried calling 3 times and every time we were hung up on. On the 4th try my husband was actually able to say his name and that he ordered a pizza over an hour ago and the impolite woman interrupted him and said, "It's on its way" and then hung up. A few minutes later we got a call saying that the driver couldn't find our house. My husband walked outside and was out there for almost 5 minutes before he came back in with the pizza. Canby is not a big city. Five minutes is almost how long it takes to drive from one end of the city to the other. Our pizza was cold, the cheese was starting to separate and the crust was hard because it was so cold. There is no way we are ordering from Lone Elder ever again. There was absolutely no sympathy or apology for the pizza being so overdue, which is ridiculous to me. As a small business owner I cannot fathom treating my customers with the amount of disrespect that we have been shown. Dominos really is not that bad, especially since you know you won't have to wait over an hour to get it and it will more than likely be 100x hotter than Lone Elders pizza was. read more

We tried this place using a 2 for 1 Entertainment book coupon. This is a small operation run by a couple of ladies, or at least it appeared that way when we visited. The ladies seemed nice. We ordered a standard pepperoni and sausage on one and BBQ chicken on the other. I don't think we finished either one and that rarely happens at our house. Canby can really use a good pizza place so this really bummed me out. read more

We ordered a medium size combo tonight to be delivered. This is our first experience with Lone Elder Pizza. We have lived in Canby for seven years and kept saying we needed to try this place. Well so glad we did. Love the service, the crust and toppings. We will definitely be a dedicated customer from now on. Just wish we'd tried them sooner. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give Lone Elder a 7. By far the BEST pizza in Canby although. The toppings are generous and the flavor is great. They even give free cookies with your order!! My delivery driver tonight was so sweet and she did a great job. I like a little softer crust but other than that we are happy campers finally with a pizza in Canby lol I will not be ordering from anywhere else in Canby again. read more

Excellent pizza! I compare all pizza's in the states to my childhood favorite, Shakeys, and Lone Elder Pizza has come pretty darn close. From the hand made crust, which is baked as it should be, complete with corn meal on the bottom, to the sauce and toppings, the flavor is excellent, the texture and "bite" is perfect. Fresh ingredients, no sausage pellets or cheese "product", it's all the real deal. I particularly like the fresh baked cookies that come with delivered pizza's. read more

Great place in Canby and have been there since 1976. The pizza is great with fresh veggies (my perferance). Love the family feel and thin crust. Family owned with some secret recipes and not even the worker's now of them. So, if you're in town and looking for some good fresh pizza. Get the large for some good breakfast.... read more

I can't believe there are only 2 reviews and both are awful. This very much surprises, and disappoints me! I love Lone Elder! The gals in here have never been anything but sweet to me so I was shocked to read anything about them being unwelcoming. With the exception of Fultano's, this is one of my favorite pizza joints ever. The food is consistent, hot, and delicious. I believe they also deliver. My office is just around the corner and being smack dab in the middle of town, I usually have plenty of choices for lunch but Lone Elder is my usual go to. It's one of the only places that have never messed up an order, always friendly and the food is always good. I haven't came across so much as a fluke in the last 4 years I've been eating here. My one and only complaint, and I guess it's more of a preference, really, is that they use white onions on their pizza. I think most pizza places use red onions and I would strongly prefer red onions as well but the food is good all the same! A personal sized pan pizza is only $4.75! Can't beat a $5 lunch. Don't let the other reviews scare you, I'd highly recommend at least giving them a chance. read more

This pizza parlor is mid-Hwy 99E in Canby. If you don't live in the area it's worth the drive out! The pizzas are tried and true family recipes from Marvel, the original owner and creator. The crust is just the way I like it, crispy and with a cornmeal crunchy base. The sauce is superb as are the toppings. They have a small family room area in the restaurant where you can sit in the center table and watch tv. Our favorite pizza is the Everything. Try Lone Elder Pizza, you won't regret it! read more
