They are so unprofessional. I never received my food and it took over an hour. I had to call them an ask where is my food. Unprofessional

Let me tell you a tale about my pizza-loving husband. This man lives for pizza--the good, the bad,…read morethe ugly. Now, I'll partake in the former any day of the week with him, but it's the latter that had me rolling my eyes *hard* one late afternoon on our drive from Chicago to our home in Michigan when he wanted to make a {45 minute} "detour" on this place he found for pizza. I was just ready to start our weekend and tired from the week. But boy oh boy am I glad I went limp & relented because I ate my words, in the form of some of the best pizza I've ever had. In fact, it quickly became a part of our regular routine and I haven't looked back. For context, I was raised in New York and have lived in Chicago over 10 years, also I'm thick as hell, so when I tell you I know pizza, you'll have to trust me and try for yourself. Patellie's has a fantastic crust, chewy, crispy, flavorful. They use the perfect amount and kind of sauce & cheese, and they locally source their veggies & meats. In fact, I usually always opt for whatever veggie pie they have that day (their chef is a mad genius), and it never disappoints. We don't make it up to Michigan as much anymore since selling our home, but I think about the pizza...and the other love of my life (their burrata) often & feel wistful. Check it out!

It came with a side salad that was pretty fresh too. Our waitress was kind and checked on us a couple of times without being pushy. The restaurant was clean and had a nice chill atmosphere. Solid meal overall.

The food tasted homemade in the best way and the onion rings and jojos were also great. The owner was one of the nicest people we've met in a long time. You can tell he genuinely cares about the place and the people who walk through the door. The restaurant has so much character and nostalgia to it. Between the vintage milkshake machine and the old-school neighborhood feel, it's the kind of local spot that's becoming harder to find. It's also only a few minutes from the airport, making it an easy stop if you're passing through South Bend. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

The service? Far and beyond. Jerry was the very best... making recommendations, sharing more on the history of the establishment (including a historic ice cream machine), and cooking a delicious meal. The place is cute and unassuming- it almost felt like sitting in someone's living room which further added to its charm. Jerry shared that they decorate for every holiday too which must be fun! We would certainly return to try the sandwiches and milkshakes the next time we are in South Bend! :)

August 13, 2026 So glad my wife and I chose this local place…read moreto eat dinner in South Bend. It was very good food prepared fresh. The server was personable and very helpful. We got there around 5:00 PM while things were just getting busy. It had a nice vibe to it. You could tell people enjoy coming here. I started off the order with an item off their monthly menu specials. The muffuletta pizza. Very nice with a great flavor. My wife loved every bite of her braised beef sliders and cole slaw. We also have this obsession with ordering Brussels sprouts when we go out and they're available. I will give the sprouts 3 out of 5 because they had way too much balsamic vinegar on them. This rating doesn't bring my overall rating down because it's likely they are very good any other time. As if all that weren't enough to eat, we ordered the 8" Cinnamon Streusel pizza with vanilla bean ice cream off their seasonal monthly menu. Oh boy was that good!! If given the opportunity to come back to South Bend, this will be my go to place. PS... I'm not a beer drinker, but it seems they have lots of craft beer on tap. It's considered a gastropub. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. Some outside seating is covered and nice of it raining but still warm out. There is a patio area that's quite large. It looks like and has a feel of a biergarten.

I had not been back to The Lauber in a while when visiting South Bend, so I went twice this time!…read moreOn Friday, my friend and I stopped in for a happy hour drink as I remember they made a fantastic Expresso Martini, complete with three coffee beans floating on top! It was just as good as the last time I was here. On Saturday, I ordered takeout for us since I was staying in the downtown area. I ordered the Power Salad (full order to share), and it was a nice mixture of arugula, spinach, quinoa, dried blueberries, toasted almonds, goat cheese, grape tomatoes and red onion, with green goddess dressing on the side. It was a plentiful salad and very tasty. I would definitely order this salad again! For dinner, I had the Rigatoni Chicken Pasta, which was advertised as their house specialty. The rigatoni noodles were accompanied with seasoned chicken and a nicely spiced mushroom cream sauce, which was divine. I wish there was more chicken (at least in my dish) as it was minimal at best. My friend ordered the Tropic Burger, medium well, with beer battered fries. The burger was topped with pulled pork and bacon with a tasty jalapeno sauce she just loved. The burger was so big she even had half of it for the next day. Overall, another great experience at The Lauber. Looking forward to my next visit when I get to South Bend.
