First pizza of our pizza tour road trip. Walking in from the parking lot, it was like walking back in time. Inside classic Italian ambiance, family like greetings, and plenty of alumni and locals filling every table. We ordered a medium cheese pizza and From the mouths of babes, " this pizza and its cheese are perfectly crisp, well seasoned, well done, and best I've had in a while". I think I have a future yelper (LOL). I had the soup but needed to jazz it up with some pepper (black and red) but was home made but I finished it. We also had the meatballs and they come in pairs... definitely get more of those ... if my kids had it their way, just all the meatballs please. Last we had to try all the desserts and surprisingly the kids loved the ice cream the best. Who knew they liked pistachio, cherry, almond in their ice cream. Service was fast and easy going. Bathrooms were clean but single stall so a bit of a traffic jam at the front. Hope to try them again on our next road trip to the mid west. read more

We were looking for a great pizza place while on a weekend getaway and we found one! Upon walking into the restaurant, it gave you a warm feeling as you were welcomed immediately and guided to your table. The smell of Italian food made us even hungrier. We started with drinks and my friends and husband were down right giddy to learn you could order a 40 ounce Bud Light bottle. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer. It came with two different marinara sauces, plain and with sausage. They were delightful. We ordered two pizzas: one with sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom; the other had green olives, onion and green pepper. The sauce was not acidy, none of us got heartburn as we sometimes do depending on the sauce. The sauce had a sweet taste. The owners were great and kind, talked with customers including us. Ahh I love the thought of supporting family owned businesses. A quick google search lead me here after attending a WNBA preseason game at Notre Dame. It seems to be a staple within the community, so I suggest you support. Super friendly and welcoming staff. They are known for their pizza, so we gave it a try. I really wanted to like the pizza, but to me the sauce lacked flavor. Maybe salt, herbs, garlic, onion something may have made it taste somewhat better. I added Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of salt so that the pizza wouldn't go to waste. I didn't want to send it back, so I figured I could spice it up on my own. Overall it was a great experience and atmosphere. I would be willing to give it another try and choose another crowd favorite. The menu had quite a few options, so no need to limit yourself. If only I had room for dessert. I did take my pizza to go and became a late night munch at the hotel. read more

Hands down, the absolute BEST pizza I've ever had in my 50 years on Earth!!!! The hubs and I stayed in South Bend, IN on our last night on an 8 night motorcycle journey, and we were in the mood for pizza. A quick Yelp search and asking the concierge at our hotel where to find said pizza, and Rocco's was the resounding answer! And oh MY!! Are we glad we listened!! Never mind the amazing hospitality, charming ambiance, and delicious food, the history behind this unicorn find of a restaurant will fill your heart, soul, and belly!! After a long day on the motorcycle we ended our day in South Bend. We didn't really want to go out for dinner so we looked for pizza delivery. Only options were the chain places and that didn't strike our desire so we decided to give Rocco's a shot. We asked the desk clerk at the hotel if it was any good before heading out and he pinched his fingers together like they do when describing good Italian food. The place did not disappoint. You could tell this was the place the locals went. It had to be some of, if not the best, pizza that I have had anywhere. We didn't even let it cool down so that the cheese could set back up, hence the fork and knife. We just dove in and devoured it slice by slice. Great atmosphere. Tons of memorabilia for the school. Wonderful family story as well. If we ever make it back to South Bend, this will be at the top of our list of places to visit before doing anything with the university. read more

Amazing pizza! The service was exceptional and it has an old school atmosphere. There's a reason why it's so busy all the time.

Would not come back here. The guy at the front was extremely rude. We had a party of 12 and asked to sit the kids (5 14yr olds) at a different table since the table they sat us at was not big enough. The boys were sitting quietly not even talking to each other and the guy says "I don't want to hear a peep out of them and they better not make a mess or they are gone". Meanwhile there was a table of 20 sorority girls in toga's screaming as they talked to each other. This isn't a fine dining restaurant it a pizza joint. The reason for the 3 stars rather than 1 was because the pizza looked good (my son ate a whole medium by himself). I ordered the lasagna, which is a specialty weekend item only. I wasn't impressed with the lasagna. There was hardly any cheese or ricotta and mainly 7 or 8 layers of pasta with very thin spreading of ricotta between the layers topped with some cheese then a tomato pasta sauce. I didn't taste any meat in the "meat sauce". It was very plain and I needed to add a bunch of Parmesan and red flakes for more flavor. It was a big serving but I only ate a few bites because it just was not very good. Also it took more than half an hr to take our orders, while the restaurant was busy it seemed like the waitress waited until all of the tables left to take our orders. The food took an extreme amount of time to receive. We got to the restaurant at 8pm and didn't leave close to 1030. While I normally don't have an issue waiting I think that initial encounter with the guy up front set the tone for the evening. One thing to mention is they won't split bills by what people buy only split the bill evenly between the table. I get they want to make sure gratuity is included for large tables but it is inconvenient to split a bill like that, especially when there are different sized families that ordered. read more

Pizza is my favorite dish. I can't always eat it so when I do I want it to be the best. I have heard about this restaurant, but I've never had a chance to try it. Tonight my husband told me to look up some places. And that is exactly what I did. The reviews were great so I knew we had to give it a try! And when we came in we fell in love with the ambiance! We were greeted, seated and the service was impeccable! Danielle did not let us down! She refilled our drinks, kept our table cleared, and made sure our meal was to our liking. Danielle even gave us great suggestions on what to eat. The rest of the staff was also very helpful! Thanks so much for the great meal and a great time for our family. The best pizza ever!! A little place in a south bend neighborhood not too far from Notre Dame. Clearly the locals know how good this place is. Our server was friendly and despite the fact the dining room was full she gave us great service and took our order quickly. Food at this location seems to be really good, my first impression was the ambiance and service, so professional.

The owners were at the hostess station welcoming everyone like family. Locals and Domers filled both sections of the dining room, but service was prompt and food was delicious. We were going to order 2 salads for our group of 8, but our server said they could just bring out enough for those who wanted (everyone!) The salad was very cheesy with crisp veggies and olives (with pits). We tried the mushroom and olive oil spaghetti and fettuccini alfredo. Both were cooked perfectly, but we should have ordered a side of chicken or meatballs for more protein. The pizzas were all excellent - we got a half hawaiian and half margarita as well as a whole Rocco's Combo. My favorite was the Rocco's Combo - thin, crispy crust with generous toppings and a great cheese pull. We forgot to order the cheesy garlic bread, so that's yet another reason to come back! read more
