Service is great! Five stars! Food was so so. The thing that I was not happy was that they didn't honor their menu price and told me they did update the menu. I ordered Linguine with Mushrooms, the menu listed $14.75, but when I got the billed, it's $16.95. Was so looking forward to dinner here. We drove 4 hours to take our sons out for their bday dinner here, they live in Elkhart. The service was ok, the kitchen and management not so much. Our food came out in waves. My son and husband received their food and were almost done before my other son and the 2 grandchildren received their pizzas. EVERYONE was fed and enjoying desert before I received my dinner, a hoagie sandwich!!!!!!!!!!!!! The waitress was apologetic and said she'd send the manager for a refund or discount , His solution was to tell us ... "Do you see how busy we are in here tonight". No apology even let alone any kind of discount. Our waitress was ok, the food that the others got was great. I ended up taking mine to go as everyone else was done and fed it to some pigeons. My husband went to Roccos when he was an ND student, and now we are taking my son, who is also an ND student here. The daughter of Rocco and her husband now run the restaurant, and the quality of the food has not changed. My son and I drove to ND where our daughter attends ND Law School. We have always wanted to check this Rocco's Restaurant out; however, a lot of the time we arrive on Sunday and they are not open on Sunday. The first thing that I noticed is the availability of parking near the front door. Being young and able to walk, we parked in the cyclone fenced parking lot right next door. We were immediately given a booth seat on the far side of the room. Our waited greeted us before I had my overcoat off and offered us a drink. Cecilia was very special and worked diligently for the next hour taking care of our needs. She brought us the drinks promptly and asked if we were going to dine in or take an order to go. We told her both and proceeded to order a cheese pizza for dining at Rocco's and then we placed a large order to go. The medium size cheese pizza. We received it in about 12 minutes. It was placed on an elevated stand and made it a lot easier for everyone to grab a slice of this delicious pizza from Rocco's Restaurant. Alexis ordered a side of Marinara Sauce for her dinner on Sunday night that she was going to have with Pasta. We ordered for Geri; Penne Pasta and side of two meatballs. We also ordered some garlic toast and a slice of cheese cake. I ordered Julia's .Salad; it was a great salad. I also ordered Baked Lasagna. The food met our expectations and exceeded our anticipation. I would highly recommend this very cleaned and friendly place to eat. They thanked us for visiting as we walked out. read more

This is the cutest little Italian place in South Bend. It's been there for forever and honestly probably the best pizza you'll find in south bend! Other items on the menu are just okay (such as the bread, just ok) but the pizza is the real star. Honestly, I've never even ordered anything else cause it just didn't seem worth it to skip out on the pizza! The place is small, or just consists of smaller tables and booths, so just keep that in mind for larger parties and busy football weekends. read more

Stepping into Rocco's feels like stepping into a bit of South Bend and Notre Dame history. Old framed newspaper cutouts are all over the walls. The atmosphere feeds off of this. It's hard to believe this is my first review of Rocco's as I have been going here practically my entire life! I grew up down the street from Rocco & Julia and we were regulars in the restaurant. I remember being a small child and getting a tour of the kitchen from Rocco's and Julia bringing us plates of cheese and olives while we waited for our food. Family visits and celebrations always included a trip to Rocco's. In all my years going here, I have never tried any of the pasta dishes - no reason too...the pizza is just too good! There is something to be said for a plain cheese pizza that taste amazing. The crust is thin and crispy (you can order extra thin if you want) with a perfect balance of cheese and sauce. All the toppings are fresh - I remember watching the grandmother sitting in the corner of the dining room slicing the fresh veggies paper thin. Lately, we have been changing it up and trying different topping combinations. We always opt for the Julia's salad - iceberg lettuce, olives, cheese, pepperoni and tomatoes tossed with a great red wine viniagrette. They will serve it family style based on the size of the group. The place gets packed so be prepared to wait, especially during football season. Beer is served in quarts with small glasses. Its very family style here, service very good, in fact at times a little too much hovering but good. OK bottled beer selection and some wine to choose from. Ah, the pizza, the reason you might think you come here, so IMHO, its pretty just average/O.K. pizza and if this fine establishment was anywhere East of say Pittsburg, it would be out of business. The crust was close to NY style although a little too underdone and a little too thick, the toppings were like run thru a blender it seems and difficult to sort out. Some suggest its the best pizza in South Bend and that may be true, but it also may reflect the current state of pizza in this part of Indiana or for that matter the mid-west. Just ordered a pizza off GrubHub from Rocco's. Thank goodness I saw that the sausage was raw before eating it or giving it to my 2 year old. I understand these things happen so I decided to call to get a new, FULLY-cooked pizza and voice my concern. After a couple minutes on hold, the owner decided to get on the phone (was obviously offended that I claimed there was raw sausage on his pizza) and blamed the GrubHub driver. I said that it was no way GrubHubs fault for the undercooked sausage. He then proceeded to tell me that he's been in this business for some odd years and that no one has ever complained but me. I said that this was ridiculous and our conversation was going absolutely no where. I said maybe I need to go get my 2 year old and walk my pregnant butt into his establishment with this undercooked pizza so he can take a look at it himself. He said he didn't want me coming but he'll make me another pizza. Now why would I want another pizza after he gets on the phone accusing not only the GrubHub driver for his staffs mistake but also insulting me? Now does this look like I'm making it up? Gross!! Instead of fighting with me on the phone without even seeing the raw sausage..you could have just sent out a new pizza. Oh and he also told me that sausage is sometimes pink in the middle. No this is raw. And I'm pretty sure this could make me and my baby very sick. The fact that he had to argue with me and make up excuses without even wanting to see the problem is ridiculous and I will never eat here again. My fiancé is going to get the refund but we will see if he ends up giving it to us. I'll comment if he gives us a refund to be fair but he's definitely lost our business with his attitude! UPDATE: I am pleased to say that the owner did give us our money back for the pizza and delivery service through GrubHub. He also took the pictures to show the cooks as well. A South Bend staple! Rocco's has such a cozy, family-friendly feel and the pizza is great (even reheated the next night). We had the caprese salad and a half cheese, half pepperoni pizza and both were very good. Our waitress was friendly and efficient and we were able to get right in without a wait!
