    I have been trying a few of the national chain pizza lately, and Papa John's is right in the middle on that scale. It's not actively bad, just sort of bland, and for the price these days, I'd prefer to invest a better quality pizza.

    This what 10' of free looks like. That pepperochini was kinda sad though.

    When I got home after work I was advised that my Wife and daughter (son is away @ sleep away camp), went to Olive Garden for dinner...left over breadsticks in the fridge as evidence, so I was left to fend for myself for dinner. My previous company gave me a $10 gift card--let's just say they were really bad at Monopoly--and it was burning a perverbal hole in my Apple Wallet. I had converted it into a Papa John's gift card so I figured I would cash it in. It wasn't much...good for a 3 topping 10' pie, but free dinner and lunch tomorrow isn't too shabby. The employee working the front was pretty cool. Obviously gift cards are very rarely converted to e-cards, but he let me enter the number on the cc pad and it worked perfectly. Location was very clean and my pizza was out to me in about 7 minutes. I won't critique the pie because hey, it's Papa John's. Just happy I can delete the card and officially move on.

    Well, Papa Johns is usually the only "chain" pizza place that I order from. It's affordable, consistent, and not far from home for easy carry out.. I don't know what happened last nite, but someone dropped the ball. Always do the 2 topping medium x 2 pizza deal. Always no cheese, extra sauce, and two veggie toppings. Arrived home last nite with the pizza, all excited to eat. Opened the boxes, and was utterly confused. Barely any sauce. The least amount of toppings I've ever seen. Weird extra flat, borderline raw, dough. Disappointed to say the least.. I only gave the location 2 stars because I really hope this was a one time disaster and that they can resume their normal quality of pizza upon next visit. If there is a next visit..

    I am thoroughly confused. I ordered a pizza with no cheese and there's hardly any sauce or pepperoni... the pizza with cheese is supposed to be pepperoni and pineapple... looks like a cheese pizza with 7 pepperonis... and the garlic knots are rock hard and the marinara was opened and tipped over... To top it off i called in and the girl that answered was going to get a manager (manager never came to the phone) she got back on the phone and said "well we can definitely remake it but you're going to be waiting quite a while" ... wth?? If i could give zero stars i would! Now i remember why I don't order from this location 9/7/18 Just called again The last time that I ordered they said they were putting two medium pizzas on my account and they didn't know what I was talking about and the girl on the phone was super rude again. The manager seemed nice but apparently getting pizza that was ruined replaced is more difficult than it seems, can I just get a refund From the previous order Because y'all can't get your shit together

To maximize our lunch hour, my team decided to place our order online for pick up so that it would be ready by the time we arrived. Ordering online was super easy and I received an itemized receipt by email as well as a text message when our order was ready (all super important aspects to consider when organizing team lunches for work). When my team arrived our pizzas were ready so we were able to select our beverages, grab a table and enjoy. Because we got there shortly after noon, we got our first pick of a table inside, but it filled up soon after. The vibe is very relaxed, super casual, and it has a local neighborhood feel (with TVs and board games available). Now on to the most important part: the pizza is really good! I opted to try the Peace, Love & Parm (red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, shaved parm, fresh basil, drizzle of balsamic glaze) with a gluten free crust and really enjoyed it. It tasted fresh and balanced with savory, sweet and salt. Very good. I'll definitely return to try their other signature pies. I'm also interested in trying the salads.

But I can't sit here and pretend the last 60 years or so didn't exist. When New York, New Jersey and Connecticut followed their personal Robert Moses out of the cities and into the suburbs, the pizza shops came with them. To this day, in places like Central Jersey, Western Long Island and Central Connecticut, you'll find decent to spectacular pizza shops deposited in the middle of strip-mall hell within a tight delivery radius of acres and acres of tract housing. In Portland's western suburbs--especially the named communities like Tanasbourne, Greenway, Amberglen, and Progress--this was typically the domain of chains like Schmizza, Fultano's, Bellagio's, Odd Moe's and their national competitors. This, for years, kept me and the family away from Society Pie. Located a couple of blocks from our doctors' offices and hospital, Society Pie is tucked away in the middle of Tanasbourne's own strip mall netherworld and ringed by Elmer's, Peet's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Killer Burger, Menchie's, P.F. Chang's, Wendy's, and Pizza Hut. We knew that Oregon's suburban strip malls hadn't cultivated promising pizza in our more than a decade here, and we didn't see any reason to believe they were about to start now. But an acquaintance told us to try it once, and made a convincing argument. She pointed to its neighbors at Prime Tap House and Biryani Corner and noted that not only were they producing some of the most interesting menus in the area, but they were succeeding where everyone else had failed. Biryani corner had outlasted at least three other biryani spots in Hillsboro alone, while Prime Tap House's fusion taproom menu proved so popular that it's now in the food court at the Ritz-Carlton. Begrudgingly, we went into Society Pie for lunch and found... slices. Yes, any Schmizza here will give you slices, but it is only recently that Portland independents beyond chains like Sizzle Pie and Hotlips would deign to make some slice pies for the lunch rush. Society Pie clearly knew its audience as well, building drink and salad combos around its slices. We arrived late in the day, so slices were held to plain and pepperoni. No problem. We asked for a slice each and varied the drinks: Some just sodas, me a pilsner. I'll say this now: Getting out of a pizza shop here with a beer and a slice for $9 is a small miracle. Back east, a war crime, but here it's a genuine deal. The $6 for a slice and soda is similarly shocking, even considering the pre-pandemic $5 specials of that kind. And Society Pie's menu is loaded with that kind of local math. As for the slice itself? I can see where the five-star people are coming from, but it's honestly the one place where I'm subtracting anything. The crust is REALLY close, but doesn't quite hold up at the edge. The sauce is just a touch sweeter than comparable places, and the cheese has less consistency than it should. That said, they're the first place I've seen offer classic pepperoni as a default instead of falling into Hormel's cup trap or following Schmizza into the strange world of salami-sized cuts. Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. Is it the best pizza in the Portland metro? No. Is it the best pizza in Hillsboro? No, but not by a high bar. And that latter bar is what matters here. The owners make it very clear that they genuinely care about the community element of owning a pizza shop, and it's something that the absolute best neighborhood pizza shops both back east and here do incredibly well. Can you call yourself a "neighborhood" place if the neighborhood doesn't come in? Can you say you're connected to the community if they don't see themselves in your space? Does it kill you to turn on a college softball game or a random regional sports event if it helps people feel at home for a minute? Even in a place as outwardly sterile as Tanasbourne (and now Washington Square... -ish), Society Pie serves as a place where people can actually use a pizza place as a neighborhood pizza shop, have full conversations on their lunch hour, take dinners home, or plot out their order for pizza parties. Its menu doesn't expand beyond pizzas, dough-based items (knots and breadsticks) and salads, and the menu offerings (shaved parm? pineapple jalapeno? chicken alfredo?) make the build-your-own option incredibly welcome, but it meets a need. Your neighborhood pizza shop doesn't have to be the best pizza you've ever had in your life. It just needs to be affordable, reliably decent, and consistent. Society Pie fills that niche for the communities it's in, and they're better off for having it. It won't be our spot of choice (just a few miles too far), but we'll be back.

The diavola was good, but more "normal" flavor that I've had at other places. I will say the crust wasn't my favorite, but I would still get it again and just not eat as much of the crust so that I can eat more slices :)

The Downtown Hillsboro Clientele is shocked when it has to wait more than two minutes for a table. The Downtown Hillsboro Clientele is regularly baffled by a restaurant's core menu items. It recoils when seeing Spanish words used in tapas dishes. It asks if the sweet mango wings are spicy. It wonders if your well-reviewed izakaya has teriyaki dishes like the place in the strip mall. It asks for six different beer tasters, but never a flight. It complains that you put a sandwich on a bagel, then complains when that sandwich leaves the menu. It spits out garlic on a Margherita pizza. That last bit of tourist classism I just won't abide. It's one thing when some tronfio northerner looks down on a southern pizza eater for indulging in some garlic... it's another when some borioso 'medigan who took one cruise around the boot decides that makes them the Barefoot Contessa of Forest Grove. Unfortunately for your delicate little white-bread-and-ranch palate, not only will that offending garlic frequently make its way onto Pizza Marinara, but pizziolos who've actually eaten pizza in southern Italy at establishments devoid of tablecloths will tell you that garlic finds its way onto Pizza Margherita either in the sauce, in infused olive oil, or--gasp--in garlic powder. And this is really going to knock you on your ass, but East of the Mississippi? East of the Tualatin? Yeah, folks throw garlic on Margherita pies constantly. And you're going to knock points off because the basil's burnt? On a brick oven pizza? I'm attaching a photo of a margherita pizza upon which the basil is so scorched that it's basically chips. The place that pizza came from? Ken's Artisan: The best pizza in this entire state. That may be the last time you see me compare Pizzario to them, but if you're going to knock the place for what the best pizzamakers in the region regularly do... then I'm sorry, but just start ordering from Papa Murphy's. The Downtown Hillsboro Clientele will not be satisfied until there are a maximum of three restaurants downtown, each of those restaurants serves a menu out of a 1950s luncheonette, all of them close promptly at 8 p.m., and they're surrounded by no fewer than eight antique stores, 10 barber shops with owners over 80, and two mortuaries to shuffle those barbers and luncheonette regulars off this mortal coil. Downtown Hillsboro's biggest obstacle to growth isn't foot traffic, parking, or diversity of offerings--its an obstinate core of old cranks that refuses to learn anything modestly new even if staff holds their hand throughout the entire process. I credit Pizzario for doing the slow, patient work of converting the willing one new pizza, cocktail menu, and local band at a time. Downtown Hillsboro is changing adimirably in spite of the toddler palates and temperaments of its most thick-skulled Clientele.

Since it was delivery I can't really speak to the service or the vibes, but I'm sure we'll dine-in one day, considering how much we enjoyed the food delivered. My wife and I both got the butter chicken pizza and I was surprised as to how well the flavors transferred. I suppose there is some sense to it since you typically have butter chicken with something like naan? So this is sort of like a different take on "bread" with "curry". My only note is that the pizza tasted a little sweeter than I would expect for a butter chicken and we weren't given any options for spice level which would've been nice. It can also be a lot of the same flavor, but realistically it is a butter chicken pizza so there's not much to be added here.

After searching, they found the email with the information about the catering order. They said they just started it, and it would take 20-25 minutes to complete. I let the delivery platform know. The platform would reach out from time to time asking me the status. If I saw someone, I would ask, and the restaurant would say it's almost ready. Not once did they apologize for being late. I got the order the night before. So I assume the restaurant got it at least the night before, perhaps longer? I think the store manager needs to make it a habit to check what is on the books for the next day. I waited a whole hour!! I had an appointment that I had to move the time out. I've taken orders in the past from this restaurant, and I've had some issues. Just not this bad. When I got to the customer, she was really unhappy. As we were unloading the pizza boxes, she noticed that they didn't write what the order was on the box. So they had to open all the boxes. Bear in mind that this is a $50+ order including the delivery fee, so this is not a situation where El Cheapo Pizza aims to give the El Cheapo experience. This is a premium price and one expects to tip. One expects apathetic service from places that charge $12 for a lousy pizza, not from ones that charge triple that. What did it was having our food dropped on the porch. Our doorbell doesn't always work (though I can usually tell if anyone rang it), but I saw the delivery person pull up. I waited for them to get up the driveway, and to avoid startling them, hung on for about five seconds before opening the door. Normally, if one method doesn't work--you knock. We have a door knocker so that was not going to hurt any knuckles. Opened the door and my food was on the porch, the person was halfway down the driveway. Then I did an idiotic thing. I always tip the pizza people and it didn't even occur to me that this should be the exception, so I called out: "Don't you want your tip?" The person said they would like one, and like an idiot, I gave it to them. I should have said: "Then have some patience. What if it took me a few moments to come to the door?" That's the last tip this place is getting from us. My take is that the pizza delivery business model is essentially dead; if Round Table, which is a premium brand, can't attract people who care even when it charges a premium price, that's the end.
