I had the distinct pleasure of working with Society Pie to provide food for a private party, and EVERYTHING was perfect, from the first inquiry response to the day of the party. Josh responded to my request (form on their web page) within minutes, with recommendations of how many people pizzas of various sizes generally feed, ability to deliver to the party venue, etc. Josh's professionalism and expertise were very evident and very highly appreciated. Cut to the actual party. The huge order was delivered EXACTLY on time (particularly impressive with the frequently terrible traffic in the area at that hour), the order was 100% accurate, and the pizza was DELICIOUS! Hot, fresh, and flavorful. All of the toppings were VERY high quality, the crust was impressively flavorful, and chewy. Even the gluten-free pizzas were delicious! I'd love to tell you that back east is this uniform wonderland of corner pizza shops that all date back to the early 20th Century and all exist within walking distance of people's homes. But I can't sit here and pretend the last 60 years or so didn't exist. When New York, New Jersey and Connecticut followed their personal Robert Moses out of the cities and into the suburbs, the pizza shops came with them. To this day, in places like Central Jersey, Western Long Island and Central Connecticut, you'll find decent to spectacular pizza shops deposited in the middle of strip-mall hell within a tight delivery radius of acres and acres of tract housing. In Portland's western suburbs--especially the named communities like Tanasbourne, Greenway, Amberglen, and Progress--this was typically the domain of chains like Schmizza, Fultano's, Bellagio's, Odd Moe's and their national competitors. This, for years, kept me and the family away from Society Pie. Located a couple of blocks from our doctors' offices and hospital, Society Pie is tucked away in the middle of Tanasbourne's own strip mall netherworld and ringed by Elmer's, Peet's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Killer Burger, Menchie's, P.F. Chang's, Wendy's, and Pizza Hut. We knew that Oregon's suburban strip malls hadn't cultivated promising pizza in our more than a decade here, and we didn't see any reason to believe they were about to start now. But an acquaintance told us to try it once, and made a convincing argument. She pointed to its neighbors at Prime Tap House and Biryani Corner and noted that not only were they producing some of the most interesting menus in the area, but they were succeeding where everyone else had failed. Biryani corner had outlasted at least three other biryani spots in Hillsboro alone, while Prime Tap House's fusion taproom menu proved so popular that it's now in the food court at the Ritz-Carlton. Begrudgingly, we went into Society Pie for lunch and found... slices. Yes, any Schmizza here will give you slices, but it is only recently that Portland independents beyond chains like Sizzle Pie and Hotlips would deign to make some slice pies for the lunch rush. Society Pie clearly knew its audience as well, building drink and salad combos around its slices. We arrived late in the day, so slices were held to plain and pepperoni. No problem. We asked for a slice each and varied the drinks: Some just sodas, me a pilsner. I'll say this now: Getting out of a pizza shop here with a beer and a slice for $9 is a small miracle. Back east, a war crime, but here it's a genuine deal. The $6 for a slice and soda is similarly shocking, even considering the pre-pandemic $5 specials of that kind. And Society Pie's menu is loaded with that kind of local math. As for the slice itself? I can see where the five-star people are coming from, but it's honestly the one place where I'm subtracting anything. The crust is REALLY close, but doesn't quite hold up at the edge. The sauce is just a touch sweeter than comparable places, and the cheese has less consistency than it should. That said, they're the first place I've seen offer classic pepperoni as a default instead of falling into Hormel's cup trap or following Schmizza into the strange world of salami-sized cuts. Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. Is it the best pizza in the Portland metro? No. Is it the best pizza in Hillsboro? No, but not by a high bar. And that latter bar is what matters here. The owners make it very clear that they genuinely care about the community element of owning a pizza shop, and it's something that the absolute best neighborhood pizza shops both back east and here do incredibly well. Can you call yourself a "neighborhood" place if the neighborhood doesn't come in? Can you say you're connected to the community if they don't see themselves in your space? Does it kill you to turn on a college softball game or a random regional sports event if it helps people feel at home for a minute? Even in a place as outwardly sterile as Tanasbourne (and now Washington Square... -ish), Society Pie serves as a place where people can actually use a pizza place as a neighborhood pizza shop, have full conversations on their lunch hour, take dinners home, or plot out their order for pizza parties. Its menu doesn't expand beyond pizzas, dough-based items (knots and breadsticks) and salads, and the menu offerings (shaved parm? pineapple jalapeno? chicken alfredo?) make the build-your-own option incredibly welcome, but it meets a need. Your neighborhood pizza shop doesn't have to be the best pizza you've ever had in your life. It just needs to be affordable, reliably decent, and consistent. Society Pie fills that niche for the communities it's in, and they're better off for having it. It won't be our spot of choice (just a few miles too far), but we'll be back. read more

I searched high and low to find a local pizza spot for a team lunch and due to the number of positive reviews, I selected Society Pie. To maximize our lunch hour, my team decided to place our order online for pick up so that it would be ready by the time we arrived. Ordering online was super easy and I received an itemized receipt by email as well as a text message when our order was ready (all super important aspects to consider when organizing team lunches for work). When my team arrived our pizzas were ready so we were able to select our beverages, grab a table and enjoy. Because we got there shortly after noon, we got our first pick of a table inside, but it filled up soon after. The vibe is very relaxed, super casual, and it has a local neighborhood feel (with TVs and board games available). Now on to the most important part: the pizza is really good! I opted to try the Peace, Love & Parm (red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, shaved parm, fresh basil, drizzle of balsamic glaze) with a gluten free crust and really enjoyed it. It tasted fresh and balanced with savory, sweet and salt. Very good. I'll definitely return to try their other signature pies. I'm also interested in trying the salads. read more

So glad we ventured out of our regular pizza spots and found Society Pie! We came right when they opened at 11am and dined in with 2 adults and a toddler. Walking in it gave off a lounge-y/sports bar vibe at first (with the big chairs right by the door, the tv on, and the foosball table) however, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some intentional decor and humor setting the mood. I really appreciate the sense of humor. For example, the menu said "get $3 off if you tell us a dad joke" and the drink menu with "a glass of cheap wine for $5" My toddler was of course fascinated by the little toy claw machine and there was a little mouse door - she screamed of joy when she found the decal on the wall by our table. What a nice homey touch! You order at the counter and sit down, they will bring your food to your table , but you have to bus it after. We got the Greek salad to share, which was fresh and with plenty of feta cheese. We ordered the 14 inch 1/2 Feta Betta (pesto, chicken, feta, mushroom) and 1/2 Sweet and Spicy (pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeño) and it was a great variety to try their specialty pizzas. We both had 2-3 slices each and were happy to take the rest home to enjoy later. It got pretty busy during lunch time with lots of people ordering slices and the slice deals which is a great deal for lunch! We will be adding this to the list of favorite pizza spot. the pizza was over priced. they do not have a good choice of sizes. my son bought 2 pizzas for mother's day and it was so bad we were embarrassed and mad. the barbequed chicken was a real rip off. it had a small handful of chicken only in the middle of the pizza and 4 pieces had no chicken at all, just sauce and a couple small thin onion strips.......who ever made this has never seen a pizza before? the vegetarian pizza had mostly black olives and no tomatos......we have bought a huge volume of pizza in my 70 years and this is worse than pizza hut......a real rip off.....too expensive.......i do not recommend this horrible business.....it gives family business a bad name! we like odd moes, it closed, or bellagios pizza......they are too far away. do not help this business do not buy pizza here!.......and it was cold !....my son desrves a refund and apology ! read more

I had terrible pizza cravings all week, so when my cancer minion offered dinner after taking me to yet another effing doctor appointment we decided to try this. It comes highly recommended and just won some big local award. There is a kinda new outpost near us in Tanasborne. So, ok. The lady on the phone was very nice and our pizza was ready for pick up on time. I didn't go in but minion said inside it was nice,noting "they are trying to be trendy Portland." We took it to minon's house and watched She Hulk ( side note I love love Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black and she is a good She Hulk) while we ate. Verdict? It was ok pizza. I can tell the toppings/ ingredients are good. We got a Hawaiian and a Feta/chicken/mushroom/pesto and a side Caesar salad. The crust was good. The Caesar dressing was good, mild - meaning not very lemony or garlicy. The sauce and pesto were both a little bland. So overall everything was fine. It was not very cheesey or greasy or indulgent. It felt healthy. There was no desire to overeat it. I guess that's good right? We both had a couple pieces and my adult child inhaled the rest later and next day. I had another pesto slice for lunch the next day and I will admit I threw more cheese on it. Looking at other people's photos I do not think our pizzas had as much Canadian bacon or feta. But these are tough times I s'pose. I don't know if I would go back. It was good but not great for the price ( two pizzas and a small salad for $50 plus tip). I do admit the crust was good and there was no sogginess like other people have mentioned so they fixed that. what a wonderful business! i had to write a review just based off of my first time going there yesterday. i pre-ordered 6 large pizzas for a work meeting and went to pick up yesterday. they had all the pizzas ready and in a warming cart. they were so fresh and warm and giant!!! the sweet guy at the register offered to help me take them out to my car, it was an amazing offer/gesture. and even one of the customers in line behind me helped open the door. just so many sweet people, an amazing environment, i wish i had more time to hang out in there, will definitely be going back. they have pizza toppings and types for all interests and allergies. please go here when you can!!! they care and appreciate you supporting them so much!! read more

This is our family's favorite pizza spot; we actually think it's the best in the area. We average having Society Pie at lease 3 times a month; it's our go to on busy weekday evenings. The menu is not extensive but what they do with pizza, they do really well and super reasonably priced for how great the quality is. Our favorite is the bbq chicken pizza - get this pie! My little guys are wild about it and so are we. This evening I fudged up with my order, placing it online for the wrong location, called them and it was no issue - the guy I spoke with was super nice about it and said he'd take care of it from there and would get it sorted with the other location. Society Pie ranks at a 2 because I am hungry. Brought it 5 minutes to my hotel and am sorely disappointed. Cold, thin, sparse ingredients that look nothing like what is pictured online. If I didn't get it to go I would've either asked for a refund or remake the pizza to look like what is pictured. I'm hard pressed to have anyone go eat here u less they had a really bad day or completely ran out of ingredients. I recommend trying somewhere else. Ok, I am a bit of a pizza snob and only like a good NY style. Other styles of pizza aren't pizza...period. On my way to the gym this morning I saw the Tanasbourne location out of my extremely good and effective peripheral vision. I know what you're thinking.."uh, lady, face forward and continue to the gym!" I finished my workout, went back home, and made the suggestion to try it to my wife (aka master of the house). We ordered and popped back out to get it, and I thought the place was super cute. Only a few tables, which is no big deal because most people don't eat pizza at a sit down place. The pizza was a true large 18 inch, not a 14 inch gaslighting you into thinking it's a large like the chain places. The crust was solid (although I don't eat it), and the pizza itself was beautifully thin and foldable just like grabbing a slice in NYC. It wasn't greasy at all -A+, and all of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I was stuffed after 2 pieces, which made me happy! Why? Well, I don't eat as much as I used to (age) and then leftovers for tomorrow, duh! We will definitely be back! read more
