Tony's New York Pizza II is a solid neighborhood pizza spot that met my expectations overall. The…read morecheese pizza actually tasted like something you'd find in New York, which I appreciated. Now full transparency, my husband is a New Yorker, and by his standards it was average for NY pizza. But judging by my Houston palate I thought it was good. The calzone was my favorite. Adding the optional ricotta made all the difference. It took it from a 4 to a 7. The only downside was the pepperoni. I could literally count the slices and wished there were more. That said, the bread texture was wonderful, and that same great texture carried over to the garlic knots, which I really enjoyed. I think trying meatball, or a supreme (heavier on the meat) version would be fantastic. When I go back I'll that and be sure to update. We also tried the chicken parm sub. It was okay, though my husband thought it was subpar. Personally, I think the tomato sauce did a lot of the heavy lifting flavor-wise. Surprisingly, I really liked the cannoli filling, which says a lot because I usually don't care for cannolis. They often don't taste like much to me, but this one did. The inside of the place is very quaint and mom-and-pop, which I loved. Service was great. I ordered to go, was told 20-25 minutes, and the food was ready in about half that time. All in all, this is a solid pizza place for locals, and I'd absolutely come back to try more items on the menu. I want to try the original place and see if it's better. I mean, it should taste the same right? (Will update when I find this out).

The pizza is hand tossed and made to order, however they do have a "buffet" which allows you to choose premade items that they reheat in the oven. Their pizzas are savory, greasy, and tasty! My 1 and only complaint is that although it is a hole in the wall, it shouldn't mean "unkept." This place really needs a good deep cleaning and update on appliances such as the drink machine. The walls and door entries are dusty with visible spider webs, the drink machine is faulty and water leaks when trying to dispense soda. It just needs to be replaced and fully upgraded. I really love this place however cleanliness is a non-negotiable.

We got the Bianco pizza with added chicken and basil, and a 16" pie was more than enough to feed our group (two adults and a teen) with leftovers to spare. Bonus points: when I walked in, the owners' kids were playing Måneskin (and Damiano David), which made my day! All three of us were thoroughly satisfied. The 16" pie, plus two slices of yummy cheesecake, came to about $42 before tip. It's a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it for the quality and portion size.

It's takeout or delivery only, so you cannot eat here as I was hoping to do. I am a huge fan of wood-fired pizzas ever since I tried the first one back in college in Colorado. That restaurant was dine in and so delicious. Unfortunately, this one doesn't quite live up to the hype of a wood-fired pizza for me. I tried the fully loaded pizza (similar to a supreme) and a pineapple pizza and found the prices to be a little high. I know they supposedly use premium ingredients, but don't most independent pizza places also use premium ingredients? The pizza maker was VERY heavy handed with the olives, as it worked out to about 10 total olives on each slice. Unfortunately, I don't eat olives and I was busy picking olives off every slice. I also tried to pineapple just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind and I really didn't think that pizza was all that great either. Nothing like I remember a wood-fired pizza to taste in my college years. Needless to say, I likely won't be returning.

The sauce is extra tomato-y with the right amount of spices. The cheese was just as good, but I would order the tomato if I was just ordering a single pie. Now for the most important part: I walk in to this retro 80's pizza joint with Raiders of the Lost Ark playing on a single 13" tube tv / vcr combo. I don't typically write a review about an establishment, but my first visit to this establishment…read morewill definitely be my last. It wasn't a matter of not liking the food, but the quality of the items and the lack of welcoming customer service. We told the cashier we'd never been in before...no welcome, no explanation of the menu, just a dead stare waiting for our order. My husband asked how many breadsticks came in an order. The cashier's answer was "I don't know. I think maybe 8." No offer to check to verify. I asked how large the pizzas were, wanting to see an example of the size. The cashier's answer, "I mean, it's 14 inches." No offer to show us the size. I asked if there were side salads, or only the dinner salads. The cashier's answer, "They're all big bowls of lettuce." That should've been my sign to leave, but wanted to give them a fair chance. I ordered the lasagna bolognese, which came out looking as if it had been in the microwave multiple times and was sitting in a small pool of grease. The first couple of bites were hot, but as I got to the middle, it was refrigerator cold. I took it to the counter with my concerns, only to have the owner come to me with no greeting, but stating "It measures 102 degrees." Yes, on the outer edges it probably was, but not in the middle and it shouldn't be sitting in a pool of grease. She continued to argue with me about it before giving me a refund for the item, still making me feel bad for having a complaint. My husband got the chicken Alfredo, which was spaghetti noodles with pre-made diced chicken and sauce. The pizza was fine, and the breadsticks were essentially pizza crust. If you want real, made from scratch Italian, stick with Italian Cafe or Adriatic. This was very disappointing to say the least.
