Some morning humor: Gotta love this short, paper straw!
    Rumit P.

This is one of the few downtown DC locations. The one on 18th and H St NW seems to be indefinitely closed because of COVID. I typically order a coffee and some kind of pastry or entree. The staff are always attentive, friendly, and have my mobile order ready in the pickup spots and acknowledge me when I enter and before I leave. My coffee made prepared just as I requested and was ready as soon as I arrived. The interior is small and does not accommodate too many dine-in customers, and they have a single table for outdoor seating. I love that this is not a busy location!

I'm a regular here. This is right near my office and great for grabbing fast and easy lunch. Mobile orders are prepared quick. The only reason this place doesn't get a 5 star is because the inside is small with very little seating. It's almost like you have to take your food to go. Also they use kiosks for ordering and once I was instructed to use it instead of being able to order at the register with a person. I felt this was impersonal but hey it might be why they move so fast.

During my recent trip to DC I was lucky enough to pass by this Panera to get my free Birthday reward before it expired. This location is small, not good for large groups, perfect for studying or relaxing for a bit. Upon entering the employee, a young woman, at the register just stood around while I waited to be helped. I asked for help, ordered a piece of crumb coffee cake, and took it to go. Sadly, when I opened the bag to eat it, the cake was dry and hard. I had to throw it away. Panera is one of my favorite spots and I will definitely continue to visit my local Panera. 4 stars for past experience

A half-full (or half empty if you're a pessimist) attempt at the Baja Mac & Cheese sans Avocado because... well not sure

This is for the Panera on L Street. Food is great (but pricey) and there's lots of healthy, tasty options. But for some reason they cannot get the Baja Mac & Cheese right. The first time I ordered it, it was regular Mac & cheese. The second time it had diced tomatoes but no avocado and it was only half full! What is so difficult about this? I get the grab and go so I don't think to check my order before I toddle out the door. I will change that tactic!

After having to fast all night for an MRI next door at Medstar I was starving looking for food in the area. Being that it was late in the day, all the lil cafes surrounding the medstar complex were closed so I thought I was short but luckily Panera was open. I reluctantly went in because I'm not a big Panera fan, but I am glad I grabbed food from here! The service was very friendly, I was helped by Jhadzia and she was awesome, very patient and helpful. I had the turkey chili and it had so many random legumes in it and that's right up my alley. Really fresh and flavorful. it came with chips and an apple too! The interior was very clean and not busy at all. The location is really close to GWU. I might just be a Panera fan now, I'll definitely be dining in again after my next doctor's appointment.

So yea, microwaved cheese sandwiches are NOT the same a grilled cheese...come one guys ‍ you had one job, just grill the sandwich! One bite in and I'm literally having to pull the sandwich unreasonably far because it can't hold it together and definitely had no crunch(due to being microwaved-gross) 7-8$ for a microwaved sandwich and bag of chips...that's not worth it. What didn't help was the little fuzzies and fabric that was on the surface of the melded 'microwaved' cheese. WTH guys? Talk about Hells Kitchen! Never been so dissatisfied with Panera-thankful I don't live by this one or else I would never have this indecent and poor Panera service ever again.

Tucked into the heart of Dupont Circle with its unmistakable bright blue awning, the restaurant is intimate, moody, and always buzzing. Inside, you'll find dim lighting, a handful of cozy wooden bar booths, seats along the bar, and a few outdoor tables. It's not a huge space, which only adds to its charm and makes every reservation feel like a win. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing dishes and lingering over dinner with friends. The food was incredible...I genuinely loved every single bite. Just be prepared: the Sichuan spice is no joke! If you aren't expecting it, it'll definitely sneak up on you (in the best way). My must-orders? The chili wontons, Dan Dan noodles, and beef noodles. Every dish was packed with bold flavor and left me wanting to come back for more. If you've been trying to score a reservation, keep at it. Astoria is one of those places that's absolutely deserving of its reputation, and I'll be thinking about those noodles until my next visit.

Inside had small tables and a kinda casual cocktail bar vibe Beef Noodles - the highlight and actually very good! The noodles are long and handmade and chewy. They hold onto the sauce very well! The sauce has a slight kick and is very savory. The beef is soft and also flavorful! I feel the price for the portion is kinda expensive though 8/10 Chili wontons - skin is silky and soft, sauce is savory with a small kick as well! Even though the sauces look similar to beef noodle they taste very different. The fillings had good flavor and overall were good but were a bit tougher and dryer than I would prefer. 6/10 Crab fried rice - crab is slightly overcooked but naturally sweet. It has a light curry taste throughout and was pretty good but didn't really stand out 5.5/10 Mapo tofu - slight kick and nice savory taste in the sauce! However I think they cut the tofu pieces way too large or the tofu they chose had way too much tofu flavor that overpowers the sauce. I'd prefer a very light silky tofu but this was a soft tofu. 6/10 Vpod - at first it just tasted like orange juice but then the other flavors peek through on the after taste and when I mixed it more. Even though it was good, it still felt very basic 5/10 Philadelphia Scotsman - it's pretty ginger forward. Technically the level of ginger spice is fine but strong but then the rest of the drink got completely overpowered and so this just wasn't that great 2.5/10

Plus, the ambience is a mix of relaxation and class. I ordered the Lychee Martini to start, followed by the Tom Yum Fried Rice with Shrimp. It was cold, fresh, and so flavorful. The freshness and spicy/sour flavors really delight the pallet. Plus, the pepper tray provides vinegar and hot sauces to supplement, if needed. The owner not only cares about the quality of the food in this restaurant, but about his customers and the community. I haven't visited for a while, and the staff still remembered my standard order.
