I ordinarily love Panera, but this location was definitely a disappointment! The woman at the cash register got confused about my order several times, and I had to clarify what I wanted with each piece of the order. She charged me for twice the price and then had to fix the issue afterward. The cup of coffee that I got was WAY too strong (I was a barista for years, and understand what a good cup of coffee is), to the point inedibly bitter. My sandwich was missing several of the ingredients that come on it and was sloppily made (red peppers only in one corner, etc.) My husband's soup was lukewarm, and his turkey sandwich was made on cinnamon bread! The entire delivery, from start to finish, was poorly executed. I would recommend choosing a different location for your Panera fix. read more

I love Panera but not this location! I used to visit this location 2-4 times a month. Almost every order would be incorrect. Recently visited this location again after about four months and again, my order was messed up not once but three times after I asked them to fix it. Not only was it a complete different sandwich that I had ordered, once I told him that's not what I ordered, I still didn't receive the correct sandwich. After the second time of my sandwich not being correct, the drive-through attendant decided to argue with me about it. Completely unprofessional. Not worth the trouble. We have been several times now therefore I can say the following are not isolated incidents: The tables are consistently dirty, the front counter is always staffed with mush-mouthed teens and twenty-somethings who cannot enunciate words or seem completely disinterested in taking your order, and the kitchen staff are clueless when it comes to keeping meals coming out on time or in any certain order - especially on busy weekend days. *** TIP FOR THE MANAGER: While I am placing my order, if I have to ask "HUH?" more than once when your counter staff half-heartedly mumbles something, those people do not belong on the front lines. Hire people who really want to work. Let McDonalds hire the kids who just want a pay check. *** Further the kitchen staff seems to have zero concept of something as simple as dredging the kettle of soup for actual vegetables/noodles, instead just skimming the broth off the top and slopping that into a bowl for you. My black bean soup was just a bowl of brown water until we went back to the counter and had the manager fix the problem. Lastly, the restaurant is just laid out horribly. Sugar, creamer, coffee lids, etc are on the end opposite from the coffee decanters, near the exit doors -- while the trash and dirty dish receptacles are sit closer to the pickup counter. Seriously, what idiot did the layout for the counters?? Foot traffic doesn't flow, it chokes in a confused mess of people trying to figure out where to get lids and creamer, and where to throw their trash. It just doesn't make any sense at all. Overall this is just a horrible Panera Bread location and a complete let down after waiting so long to get one in Smyrna. It will likely go the way of Smyrna's defunct Red Robin: closed, torn down and turned into something better. A complete shame. I love Panera. LOVE. I am incredibly torn. I want to give four or five stars. But the problem here is that they are very very slow. The food is amazing, as it is at all the Panera restaurants. The service is Meh. If you go during the lunch rush, you will most likely get good service. I would not suggest going in the evening though. The last time I went it was slower than it is during the lunch rush. Plus I stood there and watched them get three orders wrong, and the woman working was snotty and rude about it. She went as far as to say the customer was wrong about their order. She didn't even offer to fix HER mistake, she just suggested they go get a refund. Most open tables had not been wiped down, food scattered around the floor. It was not busy at all so no excuse why they would not have someone cleaning up the dining area. When you order a pick two most Panera ask you if you want chips, bread, or fruit but not here. They provided a piece of French bread even though I would have preferred fruit. Alright, don't get me wrong, I am a huge Panera fan and a small complainer. But this location was, um, okay. Cons: I was traveling with two family members and it took about ten minutes to get our order. Granted, we did not order a substantial meal but at other Panera locations, I can barely sit down before it's completed. It's worth it to add that there were maybe four other families in the entire restaurant -- not exactly rush hour! The tables were all slightly dirty and needed a good wiping down. I ordered macaroni and cheese in a bread bowl, but it was very, very small. There was almost no macaroni in it. The bathroom was small but acceptable. One stall was out of toilet paper and the second stall was almost out. Our road trip was about 10 hours long and I have to say, it was one of the better restrooms we encountered! I also love Panera, but this location is consistently the worst Panera I've been to for several reasons...the staff is not friendly, nor are they helpful, which is a direct reflection of the management. There was one flaw in Panera's business plan when they built in Smyrna. Well two - some people probably won't go there because it sits on hallowed ground. This used to be where the mecca of deep fried catfish and hushpuppies resided for many years - The Catfish House. No one holds a grudge longer than a catfish fan. Second - they built downwind from Logans Roadhouse. My wife and I got out of the car and were instantly tempted by the smell of grilled meat from across the street. "Are we sure we want a panini?" But here is where they tried to offset that mistake: the parking lot. They situated the entrance/exits in such a way that you have almost no hope of getting out once you are in. You eat here or risk your life trying to escape. "Do we really want to try to cross over that traffic for peanuts and a moist juicy steak?" We stayed - plus we had a gift card - that helped with decision as well. We paid $8.00 each for half a sandwich and a cup of soup and small bag of chips. We were upcharged a $1 for some reason on our pick 2 deal. "You get the Pick 2 for $6.99, but if you get this with it the price is $7.99, but then again if you go this route it's only 60 cents more on both or one of the either or maybe all the selections - I know, confusing. Might be because I got a panini or because I had blonde hair - I don't know. Good food, but not a great value. I can think of several things I would have rather had for the same price. We frequented the one that used to be in Gatlinburg several times, but food ALWAYS taste better on vacation. There bakery products are good and fairly priced. This Panera has bad reviews for a reason. I chose a baguette as my side (the default) and they didn't give me anything. When I asked if it came with a side, they told me I had chosen no side and were reluctant to give me anything... even though it's included. On an even worse note, the food was honestly bad. I got a grain bowl, which is typically warm. The chicken was ice cold, and overall the bowl was just not good. I've had many of these from other locations and they were just fine. I ate here while passing through. All the employees were super nice. However, my order was messed up. I ordered pasta with steak (instead of chicken) because it was recommended by the cashier. I didn't want apparent raw chicken on my pasta (comes with it) so she suggested steak because it was cooked. However, the steak left a pool of red blood on my white sauce. It appeared medium rare in the middle. Then on top of that, they gave me bread as a side instead of chips. I also ordered a bagel which I waited for but the cashier started checking out the other people in line. She never made eye contact with me again. I asked someone else who worked there if I could get my bagel, but they said the cashier has to get it. :( i also noticed many of the lights over the tables were burned out and there was trash all over the floor and on the ledges by the tables. Drive thru experience is always incredibly long and last visit resulted in me sitting for 10 minutes just to order and around 7 minutes after I paid waiting for my food in the drive thru- watching 3 employees walking around doing nothing, drinking drinks, talking to one another...no one said a word to me on why the long wait for a salad and mac n cheese until I caught their attention and asked what was going on. I have given this specific Panera many chances, but my last visit was the final straw. I've ordered rapid pick up on 3 separate occasions, and each time my order was missing something or my sandwich was put together so sloppy. I've ordered delivery twice and both times the food took longer than 1 hour to arrive, and thus arrived cold and one time my sandwich was sloppy again. My most recent visit, I chose to dine in. I had a coupon for bogo you pick two, I was using the kiosk to order when I realized I left my card at home and would need to pay cash, so I switched to register to order. My cashier did not even greet me! I began ordering my food and she kept sighing loudly showing that it was an inconvenience for her to take my order (even though that is her job) and to make it all worse, the manager on duty, Blake, was standing very close to her and said nothing about this entire order. The cashier continued sighing loudly, gave me my total, I paid and sat. We walked into this location after reading some mixed reviews. Looking back, I should have trusted the two stars and looked elsewhere for food. Upon walking in, the one cashier working was already more than overwhelmed with the six people in line. Our group of five attempted to navigate the kiosks but two were not functioning so we waited in line. Once the ordering process was over, two salads came out with the chicken still frozen and stuck together. I can safely say tat the chicken was most likely salmonella free because it was covered in freezer burn and ice crystals. I walked up to ask if they can fix the issue and the head sandwich builder looked at me like I was crazy. I, for a second, thought he was going to ask me to just eat it anyway. He stuck his gloved hand into my salad bowl and shouted "we're gonna have to start microwaving the chicken guys." I returned to the table, took a bite and the chicken was still frozen. I had also ordered a tuna sandwich with cheddar cheese. That half of my two pick meal was edible, but just as edible as a slimy scoop of grey tuna on beige bread can be. Guess what else was missing? The cheese. I didn't complain about that tho, mainly because I was over walking back up. But I give one star because at least the water was as advertised and the chips were edible. read more

The other day we ordered two sandwiches and two drinks. The food never came out after the drinks. Had to go ask. They act all confused and then ask to see my receipt. I finally get our food but they give it to me all on the same plate? I had to ask for another plate and the second order of chips. I asked for some mayo and the guy says "sure" and leaves me standing there. Two minutes later he's back. "What else can I get you?" "Still waiting on the mayo." He's a really nice guy but for pete's sake. *GLACIAL PACE, I just sat for more than 15 minutes in the drive thru FOR A COFFEE and there were only two cars in front of me. I won't even get into what I've seen workers do while I was waiting at the drive thru window. What are gloves even for? I hope I've learned my lesson.
