Well, today I tried Panera Bread, in Lawrence, New York, for the first time. I was always a little hesitant because I still remember when that location used to be the old Firestone auto repair shop. I was worried about the foundation being contaminated. Well, they did raise the building a few feet off the ground so I figured I would give it a try. After all, the Panera Bread in the Green Acres Mall is excellent. I tried them for the first time, a couple of weeks ago, and the service and food was beyond excellent. However, while waiting in line to be served today at the Lawrence, New York, location an employee, who was playing, slipped and fell directly behind the cash register. Everyone ( only the customers) was concerned and came to His aid except for the manager on duty and the other employees. I placed my order to go (two sandwiches with chips and a pickle for $21.49 dollars) was asked my name and proceeded to the meal pick-up area. A young man, who identified himself as NAJEE, delivered the two sandwiches unwrapped and on plates to the receiving area and called out my first name. I said to him that I think that might be my order because the first name is right but I had ordered my meal to go. I asked that it be wrapped up so I could take it out with me. As NAJEE was preparing to wrap the sandwiches, I noticed both sandwiches, particularly the one for my wife who is home recuperating from a major surgery, looked as if someone had flattened the bread and poked it with their fingers. I said, "this sandwich looks like crap". NAJEE said, "IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SANDWICH WE CAN MAKE YOU ANOTHER ONE, BUT WE DON'T NEED TO HEAR ALL THAT OTHER STUFF YOU 'TALKING ABOUT!" I told NAJEE as long as it is my money I am spending when I am ordering food He will hear everything I am talking about. Then, as if an afterthought, I asked for my money back. The manager finally appeared and all she could say as she walked away (in the nastiest voice possible) was stop yelling. Well, I may have been assertive, but I was not yelling. She just did not want to hear anything that I had to say so she just walked away after giving the cashier the green light to return my money. The disrespect started with the employee and was basically reinforced by the manager. DISRESPECT will not be tolerated. I can see from prior reviews that Mr. NAJEE has been doing what seems to be a good job so far. So maybe he was having a bad day but I refuse to patronize a place where I am spoke to that way. Don't let the good reviews you got so far give you the "big head". Never think that even one customer does not matter! Every customer matters! Why NAJEE chose me to crap on today I will never know. 08/15/2018 1:46pm I placed my order. My order number was 508. I guess you have to come here when they are having a good day. I must add that the greeter, Kaseem, did a wonderful job of taking my order. read more
