The only reason they don't get just one star is that the manager rectified things as much as possible when I called in after getting home with our food last night; and of course...how much should one really expect from a chain restaurant anyway- they are what they are right? However, that really in essence leaves little room for error if you as me. Panera commercials prompted me to go try a soba noodle bowl that looked good, instead of just cooking it or calling a Japanese place. big mistake. The soba bowl was great in theory but in real life it was an overcooked mish mosh of shit with weird flavors and a lovely long blond strand of HAIR which I noticed had better texture than the noodles unfortunately as I pulled it out of my mouth. Further, I detested the fact that I think I know WHICH employee it came from because I sat there watching her prepare orders like her world was coming to an end as she bitched and complained right in front of us about EVERYTHING AROUND HER. I cant really ream them for that hair though because it could happen accidentally to anyone- hair falls out sometimes i know this better than anyone with the mop I have on my head. I CAN ream them for the little witch behind the counter who made the day seem less bright, 2 missing items in my bag like my sandwich that would have replaced the hair soup and left me with a bunch of bread to eat for lunch instead, and perhaps even the cashier who was a zombie statue at the register seething at me for wanting to read over their confusing menu. Great customer service in here, I felt like I walked out of somewhere I showed up too uninvited and drank all the liquor before leaving. HOWEVER- the manager was a doll...she refunded me AND also apologized, and offered me a complimentary meal to give them another try. This place opened up in September I believe. I went there in November with my brother and he found a black curly hair in his sandwich! We almost threw up on the table! Panera can be difficult to rate because they are so consistent from chain to chain. Essentially, it seems to boil down to wait time and customer service. I can attest that the Panera in Lake Grove is spacious and clean. I have not yet encountered a long wait and the cashiers have always been helpful and courteous. I like this location because the staff is nice and goes out of their way to get the order right. Why the 3 stars? The seating area is small and hogged by over zealous business people wannabes. You dont need to spread your coffee and a cookies on the entire table and take out the tablet to do your work. The staff won't bother them (good because you can do the work..bad because they don't tell them to buy more or leave even after hours). Seating area is old and the sofa chairs are worn out. I haven't been to a location since, but happened to have a voucher for a free pastry after signing up for a My Panera card online (by providing my phone #, since they don't provide you with a physical card if you sign up online?). New management for six months is the worst. They treat their employees awful with their hours. They schedule you to work and then they take your hours away if it's slow so people who depend on the hours to pay the bills will lose significantly amount of hours per week based on how busy the place is. Management changes your hours on a hour notice totally the wrong way to do business and to treat employees. They need to learn basic economics and how to run a successful business. think they're going to keep their employees not going to happen. It hard to screw up at Panera but this location is the worst. I ordered the ham and swiss sandwich and got no ham! I told this to the guy making the sandwiches and he added more cheese! He clearly didn't understand english or how to make sandwiches but thru trial and error got it right. Someone was cleaning tables, when she cleaned my table, I said thank you. She said nothing, but as she was walking away, mumbled something in spanish. even though panera bread specializes in their soups & sandwiches, they still have a large variety on their menu. their food is incredibly tasty & they have very distinctive drinks such as agave lemonade. on top of all of this, panera bread isn't an everyday cafe. they give you one half to three quarters of a bowl of soup for $5 to $6. i just wish i could get more of their delicious food for my money! panera bread still has good eats & is good for a small lunch every once & a while read more
