I am not sure what the big deal is with this chain? The bland food? The obnoxious pricing for that bland food? The slow service? The mistakes they make? Or the POOR quality of ingredients and preparation. Stopped on my way through Salem for a quick bite after seeing all the commercials and being asked to by the missus (I guess she like P-Bread...don't know why). Ordered their Cobb Salad, Smokehouse Turkey Panini, BBQ Chicken Flatbread, and Clam Chowder...all told way more than I should have spent for lackluster food. Let's start with the mediocre first. Smokehouse Turkey Panini, meh, it was ok nothing to brag but was OK the bacon was limp and rubbery and the turkey was bland. Also, if there was sun dried tomatoes on this sandwich, they dried all the tomato out of those poor guys because the whole thing tasted like leftover turkey washed in tap water. Next the not so good. The BBQ Chicken Flatbread, so it was flatbread and I am guessing chicken (though not much of it), but that is where this went off track. The BBQ sauce was more tasteless than ketchup and I ended up putting Sweet Baby Rays on it just so it would taste like BBQ. I'll discuss the clam chowder later, however, the bread that was supposed to be included with my meal. The same bread that the drive through clerk grilled about what kind, was so light and airy that it almost seemed like it wasn't there. Because it wasn't there, they completely forgot it. Now the bad....ok, horrible. The Clam Chowder, much like everything else bland, but had the added benefit of undercooked potatoes. So the bland flavor is paired with the crunch of uncooked tubers...Awesome flavor profile by the way. And now the pièce de résistance, the Cobb Salad...not only was it flavorful but it tasted like old lettuce. Mistakenly, I took a few bites without looking at the salad thinking that with all the quality that this chain talks about in their ads, they would back those claims up....WRONG. The salad was indeed old. Possibly harvested last year's lettuce and included it in this gastronomical nightmare, much of the lettuce was wilted and had brown ends all over the place. So much for quality and taste...NEVER going back to this place. I would rather eat worms than go back to this chain...at least worms might be organic. Both of these items went into the trash partially eaten. Bonus...After eating what I did from this place, I was visiting the bathroom more than a bulimic fashion model. Well Panera has lost my business. Its funny how a place can find great success only to then get greedy and start ripping you off. Here's why. If you go for the soups or soup bread bowl, then its ok. However, my go to sandwhich is the Italian. It used to be a nice large sandwhich with 4 or 5 different meats, cheese, lettuce, tomato and peppercini. With a nice pickle on the side. Today I go, after not going for about 2 months, and order my Italian. What they now serve is a sandwich half the size of the original with half the fixins. My finger was fatter than the shriveled up excuse for a pickle they gave me. I will not be returning to Panera any time soon. I refuse to patronize an establishment that serves one thing to get customers, only to rip them off after you have them as customers. read more

Well, a couple of things. They only sell Pepsi products -- the family would much prefer Coke products. When we received our food, we were shorted a bag of potato chips. The seasonal sandwich, Roast Turkey & Cranberry, really wasn't very good. The cranberry was a purple smear on one of the pieces of bread, and the turkey was not seasoned -- like eating wet pasta. We liked the soups -- French Onion and Creamy Tomato -- but they were served to bowls that were too large ... looked like the soup only filled one-third of the bowl. All and all I give it a three out of five. But we will return ... I appreciate that this location (1665) hasn't been open very long, and it takes time to iron out the wrinkles. read more

The Manfolk really likes Panera. This morning, a lot of other people did too. There were probably twenty people in line when we arrived. The staff opened up additional registers and took our order quickly. I like the two for two option they have that gives you options of soup, salad, pasta, etc., We both had the turkey avocado BLT. I had the lemon chicken orzo soup and the MF had broccoli cheddar. The sammys were tasty with large pieces of turkey. Fresh bread, tasty bacon and avocado. Yum. I wasn't a huge fan of my soup. I had never heard of this place, like ever, but since it's new to Salem, I decided to give it a try... First off, I would suggest NEVER going during lunch time if you can help it. The restaurant was so packed, we almost couldn't find a table, and the parking lot was even worse! The line was long and ridiculous, people were just standing around and I wasn't sure if they were in line or just staring at all the pastries... Very confusing... Once it was my turn to order, I felt like the cashier was rushing me! I get it, it's busy, but gosh, i'd never been there before! The food was a major disappointment... I ordered the Chipotle Chicken panini and it was horrible! There was something off about it, not sure what, but it just didn't taste right. Definitely not worth the $8 I spent on it! Panera Bread is a great place to dine or take to-go during the winter season. With hot soup and sandwiches, it is a great way to warm up and fill up. I would say that the pick-2 option is the best on the menu. For most places, 6.99 will get you a half sandwich and a cup of their signature soup. I've been a long time fan of Panera! My first visit was to one in Canton, Michigan. I couldn't wait until one opened up close to home. I visited on the first day and had quite a different experience compared to one other reviewer. The inside and outside looked great. Lots of signage and complimentary lighting. Definitely a step above most of the competition. Employees were quick to make contact and exceeded all of my expectations. The food options were clearly described and excellent. They answered my questions with a smile, eye contact, and great answers. The place looked great! Nothing on the floor, parking lot was clean, and there was an employee removing fingerprints from the front doors. When I asked how there could possibly be dirt on the windows after only opening hours earlier, she smiled and said "You'd be surprised". This restaurant is overpriced for the portions. Kids options sub-par. Ultimately disappointing, even down to the taste of the pastries. Ordering process was stressful and chaotic. There are no lines, just a mob of people and cashiers calling for "next in line." One bonus: add on a pastry to a meal for an extra $1. Get a ticket to pick it up after your meal. Average food, but not impressive. French onion soup was lukewarm and the cheese was just sprinkled on top, not broiled like it has been at Panera restaurants I have been to in other states. The croutons in the soup were flavorful. Greek salad was such a small portion for the price. Sandwiches come without dressing (pick up packets of mayo and mustard at the bottleneck of a pickup and beverage area.) Kids meals were especially disappointing: a cup of Mac & cheese for $5, and it is served with a side of gogurt. Or, have a boring pb&j for just above $4--served on plain white bread. Even McD's gives kids a side of apples. We don't feel good about the options for children at this restaurant. Beverage bar has limited soda choices, but three different iced teas (freshly brewed, which is great) as well as an iced coffee option, which is a unique feature. Unfortunately the iced coffee tastes like a very dark burned roast. Hot tea options are Republic of Tea brand, which is really good, and there are about five hot coffee flavors. Pastry options look very impressive. We sampled five different pastries and were disappointed that they were dry -- looked good but tasted like two day-old. The prices seem overall a bit high for the amount of food you get. We won't be taking our whole family here again. read more

I love this restaurant and the concept! Fresh good food. Today I had the 1/2chicken Thai Salad and a 1/2 turkeys Avocado BLT, delicious. I've been to this Panera multiple times, but I never really saw the big deal about it. I went recently with a friend of mine and my opinions about Panera were changed in a pleasant way. I realized that I dislike one of their sauces that they use on some sandwiches (the signature sauce), so I asked the lady at the counter what kind of sauce they put on their sandwiches. One of the chefs came out with a sample of some of their sauces so I could see which one it is that I didn't like. They didn't have to do that but it was very nice and helpful. I enjoyed the chicken panini I ordered. It was delicious, and so was the broccoli and cheddar soup. I like that I can get 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich or salad. My friend and I were there for a long time and one of the employees came by and took our plates when we were finished.. And at Panera you usually take your dishes back yourself! Great service! I also got a toffee nut cookie for 99 cents with my meal..it was amazing and I will be coming back for more of those! read more

This location has a drive thru, which I hadn't seen before in a Panera. Easy to see this place from the freeway, a little more difficult to find on the roads, but got the tasty meal I expected. Will probably use this place again if hungry on this stretch of the freeway. read more

This is a nice Panera Bread. We discovered that they have a drive-through, which is a nice pit stop on the PDX-Salem slog. We ordered the kids a hot chocolate, and they were kind enough to split it into two cups for us (saving us money, and keeping the kids' wastelines in check!). Their wifi is also decent. read more

Such a great experience. I would say what made the experience amazing was the manger on duty (Monday Jan 13th) was the friendliest and most caring person. As Paneras goes, it was pretty ordinary. But they do have a nice large patio that's shaded in the evening from the setting sun. Seating inside was compromised, though, with what appears to be less than the usual. read more

I stopped by on a drive just because I had a reward. I already wasn't feeling well, but when I got here and ordered, I waited for 20 minutes before I finally asked and it turned out they'd basically prepared my order and then forgotten about it...and when I got it, it was nowhere near what I'd asked for. I would have just taken it anyway, but. I t had ingredients that I hated, so I couldn't stomach it. I work in food service so I get it. Things happen, and I wouldn't want the employees to be punished. But I do kind of wish that I'd been compensated for this because that's what I myself am expected to give to my customers. This really felt like a waste of my time, money, and reward. I also wonder why this location didn't have Swiss cheese or mayonnaise. I love bread. I consider myself somewhat of a bread snob. I finally decided to go into Panera and I dont everwant to go anyplace else for a casual dinner or work lunch. I love the soups, the sandwiches and the pastries. (i only wish they had a gluten free option!) The service is so so friendly, quick, and quality. I love the way I am treated when I am there. I am always treated with respect,kindness and a smile. It does get busy around peak lunch and dinner times, but its worth it. I brought both of my children who took the liberty of being a little bit of a handful. The manager noticed they were needing my attention, so he helped me with my plates and brought them to the table for me. The service is sweet like that every time! I'll stick to the facts: There were 4-5 cars in front of us, the drive through took 25 minutes... We asked them if they could make Avocado toast for our picky toddler, they said, sure! Then handed us a bag with bread, a knife, and a container of avocado slices.. I opened my food, and received a smashed sandwich with a smudge of chicken bits on the wrapping (there was no chicken on my sandwich) and an upside down OPEN bag of chips. Just got a Napa chicken salad sandwich, for a picnic lunch. Was looking forward to it, only there was lots of tomato and lettuce and less.than a teaspoon of chicken salad! First and last time I'll try to grab food from them. The wait wasn't an issue, because I ordered ahead of time on my phone - or I thought I did. I ordered on my 10 minute break at work so it would be ready on my lunch, put in the time I'd need the food, and felt pretty good about myself. When I arrived, my food wasn't ready, they never got my order, and questioned whether or not I'd done it correctly even when I showed them the receipt in my email. Normally the service at the Keizer store is adequate, not great but adequate. Today we were greeted by AnneMarie. Well it actually seemed we were bothering her by being here. She was very impatient and talked very fast making it hard to hear with the kitchen noise. She didn't prompt my rewards when I was paying and then said that it had to be done before payment. We felt rushed during the whole order taking process. The food was not great either , the turkey avocado blt had more lettuce and tomato than anything else. We figure this is to hide the awful processed turkey. One would think with COVID and business being negatively impacted that the workers would be more pleasant and thankful for those that choose to dine at their establishment but NOT AnneMarie she is bothered and appalled that people would show up and make her work. 8 am sunday, garbage everywhere outside, 1 of 2 customers, inside, the order taker did not know the menu, had to tell her 3 times, and point it out on the menu board, she rang it up, gave her a 20, and she could not figure out the change so she had to get her cell phone and figure it out an d she said the registers don't tell her the change, which i don't beleive for a second..food sat on the counter for 5 minutes, after a15 minute wait, my wife went up and asked if it was our order, and they said "oh ya". food was cold and chewy. went to the restroom afterwards, dirty, and no soap, or hand sanitizer. the register operator was sitting at a table playing games on her "smart phone" when it was obvious there was alot to do as far as cleaning, etc. We use to come in about once a week, but no more, 15 bucks for a couple of garbage sandwiches. sorry to see you guys go downhill. but we will not be back read more

The slowest drive through ever, took them 15 min to get through 3 cars. Ridiculously slow

I used to be a huge fan of Panera bread, use to always ask for it whenever a time of hunger approached me. But the last few times have turned me off from it for good. I instate a lifetime ban on Panera bread and I'll never consume their food again. I order a bread bowl every time I come and most the times it can only fit enough soup for a fly to take a bath in. The next time I went to Panera bread they forgot to give me soup and instead gave me molten hot lava in a cup and it scorched my leg. I write this review with a 3rd degree burn, soup spilled throughout my whole car, and an empty belly. I am in such disbelief that a franchise I held to such a high rank would do such a thing to a loyal customer. I hope this business goes bankrupt so they never hurt a customer again. read more

I'm never going back to this location. I went on 6/12/2021 at 5:30 p.m. First off, the cashier did not speak English well and didn't understand our order. We had to repeat it several times. Second, AFTER we ordered and as we're waiting for our food, she tells us there's no lettuce and we have to eat the salad without lettuce or with Spinach instead. Had she told us that before paying, we would've ordered something different. We're gluten-free (not by choice) and told her we wanted chips instead of bread as a side. Again, they were out of chips too. Thirdly, the bathrooms were filthy and nasty. The toilets were dirty, the floors had dirty tissue all over, the changing table was open and dirty. The restaurant was empty, there's no excuse to keep the bathrooms so dirty, which makes me think: If they don't care about bathroom and dining area cleanliness, then that surely transpires to the kitchen. The final straw was the wait time for our food. We waited for over 20 minutes for subpar food. Never again... read more
