I kinda like Panera. A decent variety of sandwiches, soups, salads and baked goods, too. They have a Pick Two lunch deal that works nicely for a well-rounded quick bite, and they are pretty good at packaging meals (not overkill, but not flimsy and falling apart) for pick-up orders. Not too bad for a chainy-chain. One tip for visitors to this Panera: don't bother trying to park in the lot right outside of the entry. You'll likely have better luck if you park upstairs on the other side of REI and take the escalator down. read more

Back in the day, when y'all was in diapers, Panera was pretty good. I mean back when they were St Louis Bread Company with a mere handful of Panera franchises through the southeast. Went here for lunch the other day with my wife and son while we were waiting for the auto folks at Sears to gum up our engine. It's just not the Panera of old. Customer service is good enough, sure... The people taking and producing your order are really nice, focused, and on point. Ironically, it's the bread. I had an Italian sandwich, which was fine, except for the bread. I was told it was on ciabatta. That was ciabatta like Oreos are cookies. My wife had a panini. Same problem, the sandwich contents were fine, but the bread was nasty. They have gone down that corporate road of shelf life and preservatives, whereby all of their bread has this waxy, icky layer on it, so they can keep it around forever to make sandwiches with. Gross. I really like Panera, especially the Tomato Basil bread that they have there. It is delicious, especially the crunchy sweet crust...so good. I have been wanting to get a sandwich from there for the past few months and finally got the chance this weekend. It did not disappoint, it was just as good as I remember. I got the Mediterranean Veggie sandwich which had feta, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, hummus, and onions on the delicious Tomato Basil bread. I loved how I could pick my side dish and was given a choice of an apple, chips, or two different pieces of bread. I chose the apple, although I did think about getting a side of bread with a sandwich! I also eyed all the delicious looking treats: cookies, brownies, tarts, and lots of other great looking stuff but I stayed away from that! My food was prepared pretty quickly and the sandwich was so good. Everything was fresh and tasty! Great option when you are in the Clackamas area, especially given the sad mall food court dining options. Oh, you can't get to Panera from inside the mall but if you go to the end of the mall near Macys and Barnes and Noble it is located right there, near the Chili's. read more

I usually love Panera for its fresh sandwiches and healthy salads. It was busy during lunch time over here, long line with two folks on the registers, they looked a bit frazzled. I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad to go, with some iced tea (the tea is very yummy). I was kind of bummed when I realized that the salad was just a few chunks of chicken, a handful of wonton strips and about two cups worth of iceburg lettuce. Underwhelmed. I love Panera! This particular one is not half bad. Staff is always friendly and the food is good. There has been a few times I was given the wrong order but the manager on duty immediately took care of it which was wonderful! If you haven't tried anything before, I'd highly recommend the cheddar broccoli soup and the turkey avocado BLT. Both are very good. Another one of my favorites is their bagels and cream cheese, always fresh and yummy. I would have to say this location can be a little untidy at times. It's self busting tables but the tables could be wiped down faster than they are. There tends to be slot of crumbs on the floor too. Although I typically come to chain restaurants kicking and screaming, I really can't think of any major flaws. I ordered the bean soup with the chicken Fuji salad and bread. The salad was loaded with yummy bits of goodness: chicken, Gorgonzola, pecans, and slices of crispy dried apple which gave the salad an extra layer of crunch and the perfect strength of Apple flavor. Bean soup was tasty, but I think it could have used "something". Bread, of course, was amazing as was the orange scone I took home for later (which, sadly, ended up not really being "later" as I couldn't help myself). The gentleman who picked up our table was a wee bit anxious to take our plates but it wasn't anything that a little stink eye couldn't fix. I would definitely go here again. read more

I miss Panera. I used to work at Clackamas Mall so I would be in there at least twice a week for lunch or dinner. Their bread is so yummy. Their sourdough is ALMOST as good as what I am used to in SF Bay Area. Nothing tops Bordenaves. Sorry. So they are the close second and I would bring home a loaf pre-sliced to make amazing grilled cheese sandwiches with. I will still drive down there to get a loaf occasionally. The shortbread cookies here are out of this world good. So flakey and buttery and not too salty. Never dry and always tasty. The chocolate decadence cookies are chewy and oh so chocolaty. I usually get the tuna sandwich on their sun dried tomato bread. I have them add on some cheddar cheese. They never make it too heavy on the mayo and they add dijon so there is a slight bite to the whole flavor punch. I haven't had the soup there. I tried a salad and found that for the price it wasn't nearly large enough so I won't get the salad there again. Everything else there is really good. Their breakfasts are super yummy too. Go and your tummy will be very happy! Also if you work in the Mall, you get a discount and they will deliver to your workplace for $1. Total bonus! read more

Today my daughter and I both got the Chipotle avocado chicken melt sandwiches to go. Upon getting home, I started eating mine, only to immediately run into one of the extra long sandwich wood picks (the kind with the cellophane swirl at the top, normally used VERTICALLY to hold a thick sandwich together. They put this LARGE WOOD pick INSIDE my sandwich, as though laying it in there along with the other ingredients. First, WHY use one at all? The ingredients certainly are not thick enough to warrant it, and with it supposedly being a 'melt', things should stick together on their own. Very soon thereafter, I chewed down on what felt like a small ROCK! It was the size of a large green pea! Looking at it, it looks like the top stem end from an avocado - it must have been from a very large avocado to be that big! Don't they have enough brains to REMOVE that stem end BEFORE cutting down into the avocado? It can be VERY EASILY picked off the top with your fingers - DON'T just slice down thru it to cut the avocado and then let it go into someone's sandwich! I immediately called the restaurant and spoke to a manager who didn't seem to care at all about the small rock and the buried large wooden pick - NICE! NO offer to give me a sandwich on my next visit - NOTHING! I just checked with my daughter about her sandwich. She said she had to open up her sandwich and spread out all the ingredients, as they just clumped each ingredient down instead of spreading the stuff out. AND, she ALSO had one of the pea-sized hard ROCKS in her sandwich as well! I'm most likely not going back to the Clackamas location again! read more

Love Panera! They consistently have great food and tons of options, for good prices. I love that their menu lists how many calories the meals have too, so you can make healthy choices. I LOVE their bagels (asagio cheese is my favorite), salads, drinks, pastries.. everything! The workers are friendly as well. Great tip... sign up for their rewards program! You get a ton of freebies, like free smoothies, pastries, coffee drinks... all for free! We get at least one a month, and they're great. read more

When I got there he was also there to ring me up :-) again very nice yourger man. Food was ready when I got there I said 10 min and it was done. I got the turkey cran flat bread (first time) wish it had more cranberries on it though literally felt jipped. There was like none. There probably should of had more spinach also, there was enough turkey but it seemed lacking all the other ingreidents. But it was still tastey guess I have to ask for extra next time. Panera is probably one of the better chain restaurants that I've had. The pricing is fair (the breakfast is an especially great value), it's healthy, and the portions are just right. I've had just about everything on the menu (favorites include steak and egg bagel, sierra turkey sandwich, mac & cheese, thai chopped chicken salad, and the baked potato soup). My only complaint is the location. It's always tough finding parking at the mall...and even though Clackamas Town Center has "To Go" parking spots right up front, there are jerks that take up those spots because they can't find parking elsewhere. read more

I ordered a Brioche Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwich for breakfast. I picked up my order and left. Upon getting to my car I opened the bag and discovered I had been given a breakfast sandwich on ciabatta. I went back inside and told the lady at the counter it was incorrect and without even looking at me she said "we were out of brioche" then just went about her tasks and I just awkwardly walked away after standing there waiting for a follow up sentence. I would have really appreciated being notified upon pick up so I could have made a different choice. I was starving so I ate it, but it was not what I ordered. The apathy of the staff was also very disappointing. If I wanted ciabatta I would have ordered ciabatta. My over easy egg just kinda soaked into the bread. It was not good. I was just at Panera, I got one large Mac and cheese and after 30 minutes got cold and it a very dirty bowl. I have never sent food back in my life but there was somthing green all over the sides and bottom of my bowl and when I asked about it the staff was rude and didn't really apologize. I asked for a new one and the girl basically dropped it on my table and walked off like I was in the wrong for not eating from the dirty bowl. Panera is a great choice for breakfast or a good lunch. Stopped in for a quick break during Christmas shopping. I had been crazing a cinnamon crunch bagel. It was a shining moment of a morning filled with aggressive Christmas shoppers. The bagels are so fluffy and soft unlike other bagels. They toast it for you so the cinnamon flavor just jumps out at you. My girlfriend had the sausage egg and cheese on ciabatta. It is a fantastic breakfast sandwich. Great break from your normal greasy breakfast...try the yogurt parfait with your choice of bagel. Bonus when they toast it for you! read more

Gold star goodness..........at a price! Even being a chain, I have to give props to Panera. They go out of the way to provide an amazing array of freshly made sandwiches, soups, salads, and baked goods. While I've never felt their bread or pastries were anything to write home about, this makes for a nice lunch or dinner stop. Also, I encourage anyone to read about their Panera cares program, it will make you appreciate how great a big company can be when they put their mind to it. I had lunch here recently with my boss. Great place to have a meeting with private booths and big tables to spread out materials. I had a nice panini with tomato and mozzarella that came with chips. Overpriced for what I got, but it still tasted very n ice despite being very salty. Their drink selection I think is one of the best out there. On offer are 3 kinds of iced tea, iced coffee, and sodas. All free refills which I appreciate, especially when sitting for a long meeting. Overall, a very clean, warm, welcoming place. I just don't feel there's a great value when it comes to the food however. Just my opinion though. It's good, but dropping $11 for a veggie sandwich and a drink is pushing it, so it loses a star from me based on value. On a personal note I will say that Panera is special to me, because my Mom and I decided to eat here instead of the food court at the mall... on the day the shooting took place a few years ago and a few people lost their lives at Christmastime. Very sad day. We were on our way to the food court and I remembered at the last moment that Panera was just outside the Barnes and Noble we were in. Turns out the shooter walked in through there 15 minutes later and went up to the food court. We would have been right in the middle of everything. I have been in here numerous times. Three times in a row, I was dying for a bread bowl and each of the 3 times they were either out of the bread bowls or out of broccoli cheddar soup (my favorite). I came in today and ordered a half sandwich and soup. While the manager was very friendly and helpful in assisting me with a menu with the nutrition facts, I was again, disappointed in the food. The broccoli cheddar soup was barely warm and the sandwich did not deliver with brown avocado and dry turkey. The baguette was cold. Yes, cold. As in it was like it was refrigerated! There was not a single clean table available. I had to sit at a dirty table and wiped it clean, myself. There were napkins and straws throughout the dining area and plates on almost every table. I'd like to think that most people put their plates away as expected, leading me to wonder how long exactly the dining room was unattended since there was so much to clean. It wasn't busy. There were probably 5 diners in the restaurant, with an occassional straggler in and out. I didn't finish my cold soup or dry sandwich. Looks as though I'll be stopping in the mall to curb my hunger. read more

A friend got me hooked on this place....I started with just stopping in for a box of yummy pastries to take home for Sunday morning-goodies-to-eat-with-newspaper-and-coffee. Then I tried it for lunch...get in line pick up the bagels (watch as they put 'em in that killer bagel slicer!), then order lunch...the tuna sandwich is real tuna, soup is superior (split pea is my favorite)...only thing that makes me crazy is the wandering around to find your drinks, napkins, the help yourself accoutrements are tricky until you become a regular. I'm routinely here twice a month or so picking up bagels for the office (people will go miles for you when you do that). A couple of times they've been out of cheese bagels....um...it's 6:15 am....how is that possible?! Spread a little cream cheese (particularly the hazelnut) on pretty much anything and you've started your day off better than most. So...I don't complain and fill my bagel pack with other flavors. I will also stop in here for a quick and light lunch/dinner. The greek salad is the only thing I've had off the menu, but it's pretty great....especially for the price. It's a guilty pleasure that I don't have to feel too guilty about. Their dining area is decently sized and has a gas burning fireplace with cozy chairs next to it. I love Panera but this location was a disaster. They were busy and tables were not being cleared so that new customers could sit. It took about 20 mins to get my food. The soup wasn't hot. It wasn't cold but luke warm soup is not delicious. The real disaster was my sandwich. The center was cool and the chicken was bad. I bit down on a rubbery piece of meat and when I pulled it out, it had gray patches on it. Yummmm: expired chicken. 100% never eating at this location ever again. So gross. read more

I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this experience, but I think I'm still mad? I've been to Panera a handful of times, but started going more recently in the past couple months to pick up their Tuesday bagel deal. The first week that I went (end of April), they were advertising that you could get a free $10 gift card with the purchase of a $50 gift card, I figured I would be back, so I might as well get a free $10. I ordered my bagels and purchased the gift card without issue, but when it came to ringing up my free $10 gift card there was some confusion. The person ringing me up had to call a manager over to show her what to do. I figured it was just a new promotion and not everybody had been trained on it yet, so I wasn't too worried. They reached over the counter to grab a gift card on a stand in front of the register, told me they put the $10 on it and that it would be valid June 1st through June 30th. With that I left, feeling like I'd gotten a pretty good deal. In the following weeks I returned to get the Tuesday bagel deal a few more times using my $50, but come June I wasn't able to make it in. On June 30th, I rushed over at 8pm so I could redeem my gift card before they closed at 9 and the gift card expired. I picked out $10.77 worth of stuff, but when they tried to use my gift card to pay for it I was told that it had a zero balance. The cashier asked somebody else about it and was told to try a different register as they had had an issue with a gift card previously and another register had worked. The cashier tried another register and it still showed a zero balance. At this point, a manager got involved. I explained that this was my free $10 gift card for making a $50 gift card purchase. He told me that it wasn't the correct gift card and the gift card that I was supposed to receive was green. I said that it was the gift card that I was given at the time of purchase and asked him if he would honor the deal. He told me "no, it wasn't the correct gift card" and said that he wasn't even sure I had gotten it there. It's at this point that I got mad. I've worked retail for a loooong time and I knew at this point that he thought I was trying to scam them. I asked if there was a corporate number that I could call as I was just trying to redeem the offer they had advertised and he directed me to a number on the back of the card. At this point I walked away from the counter to let my boyfriend, who had been at a table on a phone call, know the situation. As he was getting off the phone I looked in my wallet, hoping for a hail Mary that I still had my receipt for the gift card that I purchased in April. Luckily, I found it and my boyfriend and I headed back over. My boyfriend asked what was going on and the manager took on a different tone entirely. I strongly feel he believed he could screw over a short, somewhat quiet girl, but knew that the 6'1" 230 pound construction worker would be a different story. We gave the manager our receipt and were immediately told that they could honor it. As I was being rung up, the manager yelled over to the cashier to throw in two free pastries. After we'd paid the remainder of our balance that the $10 didn't cover, we went to pick out our free pastries and they decided to throw in a third one. This was while the cashier was trying to diffuse the situation, pretending that she now remembered when I came in to purchase the gift card and asking if I remembered who it was that had helped the cashier the first time I was rung up. It was 2 months ago and I'd been in multiple times since, so I obviously didn't remember what the people looked like. She also said that they had had problems with the promotion with cashiers not knowing that there were special gift cards to be used for the promotion, aka exactly the problem that I had. If they knew this was a problem, you would think that they would know how to handle it without automatically calling the customer a liar. Although in the end I walked out with 3 free pastries on top of the $10, it felt like too little too late. Free pastries don't take back accusations of being a liar and a cheat. I won't be back after this experience. I still have a balance on my original gift card, which I'll send my boyfriend in to redeem since they obviously seem less inclined to screw over the male portion of their clientele. read more
