Good food. Housekeeping is less than acceptable. 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon- empty restaurant, plenty of cleaning needing to be done, employees just hanging out playing...

I was absolutely floored by Downtown Deli. It isn't just the seating, the decor, the lighting, or…read morethe layout and Etsy fonts throughout the restaurant - it is the feeling I felt the moment I walked in. The manager was more than just nice - she was warm, friendly, patient, and kind. She was BUSY. Phone calls, long line, deliveries, and she handled them with ease and without a drop of sweat. She was kind to every person she spoke to, including her staff, and I love that leadership. The women who brought out our food and snagged our dishes were also kind, funny, and they just knew how to best make that restaurant sing. People smiled at them because they've come here 100 times, and each time they were treated with kindness and familiarity. The FOOD. The value for dollar is HIGH here. $10.99 for a monster meatball sub with delicious meatballs and plenty of tomato sauce and cheese just melting all over this delicious sandwich. Every cheesy melty bite was amazing, per my kiddo, and when he couldn't finish it, my husband happily finished the sandwich down to the last bite. We got the Philly sandwich on a great gluten free bun and the Power Bowl with shrimp. Both were WONDERFUL! The Philly y'all. ALL DAY. The peppers, the deliciously seasoned beef, the great bun, all fabulous! The Power Bowl was filling, fresh, and I loved all the plump shrimp! I also appreciated that they put the dressing on the side! Cappy's Allergen Friendly Bakery sells their cookies here, and do NOT sleep on the Iced Oatmeal cookie. Some may hesitate because it is soy, dairy, nut, and gluten free, but that may have been one of the best cookies I've eaten ever. Perfectly balanced and chewy, not overiced, and the cinnamon in there was perfect. I savored that cookie for as long as possible. Cap all this off with some unsweet mint tea, and perfection! We will absolutely come here again - I am so impressed by the people and the food, and I cannot wait to see their continued success!

The takeout was neatly packaged and deconstructed (I just got the pho tai), and you put it together at home. It was quite good! Fast forward when pandemic started to let up and the tables were out and you could eat in. Wow, well the eat-in experience was just way more enjoyable. But I really just enjoyed ordering food at sitting for a change. The workers are super nice and accommodating. It gets busy here at times! And no surprise... as the only pho business in town! Now is it the best pho I've ever had? No, but it is quite good and I'm not going to be picky! They have the basics plus some. Wish they had the coconut juice and smoothies, but I rather have the good food. We come here almost weekly, if not more! Warning however, don't expect big city cheaper prices. This is the only pho in town and they charge in line with it. What we order for 2 adults and a kid is *almost* twice what we'd pay even in CT. But it's good enough to warrant it. If there's ever another decent pho place that comes to Bluffton however, it might be beneficial competition for diners. A big draw... their pork dumplings are AMAZING!! My daughter and husband loves them so much, they insist on their own appetizer each. They are so well crisped all around and just so tasty. Definitely recommend! Also, I always end get their regular beef pho (pho tai) and we get my daughter the chicken on broken rice. (Oddly it's not actually on the menu, but they have it). It's like sliced up thin chicken in a delicious seasoning that's sweet but also a tiny bit of a kick. My daughter hates spicy but still eats this! It comes with a sweet sauce (one similar to the kind that you pour on a bun (noodle) salad dish), and my daughter likes to dip the chicken slices in it. I keep thinking I'd branch out to try other dishes, so maybe I will eventually! If you are hungry for pho, or some other great dishes, definitely come here!

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

That should've been my first sign the rest of the meal would go downhill. My son's chicken tenders came out burned and black.
