I have been coming to this bakery restaurant for a while, mainly for bakery items. On Saturday 5/21/22 I tried their hot food. I ordered a piece of eggplant parmesan When I opened the container to eat, i was turned off by the appearance it looked like a pile of brown mush. The taste had no flavor at all no seasoning. Their version of eggplant parmesan was a total piece of S#!t. They should be ashamed to sell that and call it food. read more

This review is for the chocolate covered and original extra large cannolis. My father brought a few home for me as a treat and they were the freshest cannolis I have ever tasted . I mean the quality of the pastry was absolutely amazing . The cream was sweet but not sugary sweet so I didn't feel like my teeth hurt after eating them . The crispy outside was soft and crumbled as I but into it . The pastries were just so delicious that my family and I finished them within 24 hours . Paneantico is my neighborhood coffee shop. I've been going there for years. We stopped there this afternoon and my husband went in to get some bakery items. While I sat in the car right outside. I watched people going in and out of the coffee shop without masks or with their masks resting on their necks or their chins. Many people entering or leaving the restaurant had their masks on to just cover their mouths. Every other place we had been in today required customers to wear masks except for Paneantico. From where I was sitting in the car I saw no signs outside telling customers that masks were mandatory. When my husband came out of the coffee shop he said he became the "mask Nazi" while standing online. The person in front of him and the two people in back of him were either wearing no masks or wearing their masks on their chins. When he asked the woman in front of him to please put on her mask she said she needed to take it off because she was having trouble hearing with it on!!! The final straw was the fact that two of the employees behind the counter were making food, handling food and cooking food without masks! When my husband said something to them, one of the cooks said " i'm doing it, I'm doing it". He then made no attempt whatsoever to put the mask over his nose and mouth. My husband is 67 and scheduled for heart surgery in three weeks. What happened today at Paneantico was unconscionable. We will not be returning to this coffee shop again. I live on Shore Road, right down the block from the coffee shop. I will be putting a notice in all common areas of my building telling people that this coffee shop is totally and completely noncompliant in following the mandatory rules for restaurants in handling this dangerous virus. Did you watch the movie: I don't know how she does it? Yeah, me neither. But, I just saw the "newly released on DVD" promo at my supermarket and was curious to read up on it. The promos suggested a working mother trying to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job, while critical reviews panned it as a "vacuous farce that has nothing original to say about marriage, working parenthood, child-rearing or corporate America". I can't find any better spokesperson for average, over-hyped baked goods than Sarah Jessica Parker (sorry... she has miles to go before she atones for Magnolia cupcakes). So, in my mind it makes a lot of sense that Paneantico reminded me of her recent movie. The bakery has a huge selection of different sandwiches, breads, prepared foods (including pasta, rice balls), salads, and desserts. I can't attest to the acclaimed bread or sandwiches, or indeed anything other than desserts - but I did try a large selection of pastries: red velvet, Tiramisu, carrot cake, cheesecake, ricotta cheesecake, Pignoli cookies, and a Cannolo (not all at once, silly people!). I don't know whether the owners feel that they've juggled their extensive menu competently, but there isn't anything distinctive or memorable about the entire experience. The pignoli cookies had more nuts than any other version I've tried, but were almost burnt at the bottom and were much chewier than they should be. The cannolo was the only redeeming pastry amongst the entire selection, with the ricotta cream filled to order, but the shell was more cookie like than I would prefer, and with cinnamon dominating the taste of the cream filling (3 stars). The only other cannolo that comes to mind in terms of accenting cinnamon is by Gian Piero in Astoria. I'm not particularly keen on that version either. All the cakes were middling. To quote another movie review: "Spiffy looking, well-intentioned, but ultimately witless". To be fair: Sarah Jessica Parker has a loyal following, and must do other things right to earn that.... as must Paneantico. read more

A strange mix of eat-in cafe with table service and take out bakery provides a chaotic mix of old world and new world flair. What does this translate to? A little piece of Italia trapped in a fast-changing demographic area. I've been there a few times to order some baked goods to-go and the occasional coffee or espresso-based drink. For those unaccustomed to the system, you have to pay for your coffee at the cashier up front and then walk to the back and repeat the order to the kid working the espresso brewing machine or coffee-maker. Clearly, a disjointed process that leaves newcomers and those there for the morning rush dazed and bewildered. To further exacerbate the obvious, Starbucks is directly across the street for those who want a different type of experience and a slim chance to sit down... BUT hey, if you want a seat, table service required here, great perhaps for the lunch-seeking crowd, and people-watchers for which they have an extensive menu. How nice... The table service requirement holds true from opening until close, even when it's empty. Lastly, i do want to point out they have fresh bread daily, and the baked goods, especially the cannoli are quite yummy. read more

Their brick oven bread is the best, I definitely preferred that in comparison to the whole wheat and italian breads. It was crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Talk about hitting the spot, this definitely did. The reason I gave this place a 3.5 and not a 4 or 5- their service was atrocious! I don't care how good your food is, learn how to properly serve your customers. These idiot high schoolers, talking to each other, relaxing on the side, and NOT tending to customers? Our entire duration at the table (about an hour), our waitress only came by twice. Just asking for water was quite the exercise! Our waitress kept flirting with the guys behind the counter, given I had asked her for water a good 3 times. It wasn't until I finally waved to the other waitress on call and asked her. I can't even suggest this place to my girlfriend because she refuses to go there because of the horrible service. When I go there alone, I don't wait to be seated or wait for a waitress to come to me - I grab a menu, seat myself, and when I'm ready to order, hunt down a waitress and tell her where I'm sitting and what it is that I want. Once the food is brought to the table, I can forget anyone ever coming back to check how I'm doing. To me, this place should get 5 stars based on their food, but the service is so incredibly lousy it defies imagination! I've lived near by for 4 years and have tried this place a half dozen times. The bakery items are sometimes tasty, but the service just doesn't make it worth your while. If you want to stay, you have to get table service. Which would be fine if the waitresses actually came around in a timely manner. More than once I've left frustrated after sitting for 15 minutes with no service (when less than half the tables were full mind you). Today, I stopped by for an iced coffee and a cookie. First of all, I paid 15$ for 2 iced coffees, one tiny rainbow cookie and one presumably molasses cookie (hard to tell because it tastes like a dog biscuit, I am not picky with cookies and this is the worst cookie I have EVER tasted... I even tried to improve the thing with a scoop of ice cream and it still is bland, dry and horrible). When I was waiting for my iced coffees, I over heard two waitresses complaining about tables they were serving and how much they "hated" them. Finally, as usual, not a single please, thank you, or SMILE from any staff. If you're going to charge 15$ for 2 iced coffees and 2 cookies they better taste decent and not come with a side of attitude. I guess the problem is that they hire teenagers to run the service department and often times they seem confused about their jobs. on our last day here in NY, we lunched with our local friends in brooklyn and they brought us here. the place was packed but we were able to grabbed a table. this place is a bakery and a deli. they specialize in awesome italian deli sandwiches and baked goods. we saw how big the sandwiches were (and we wanted to save room for dessert!) so the BF and i shared the B89, its a grilled chicken with prosciutto, arugula and blue cheese. there is this amazing sauce that they have on the table which you use to drizzle onto your sandwich and it's like heaven in your mouth! after our sandwiches, we ordered the regular cannoli and cheesecake. our eyes was definitely bigger than our stomach, we had to force down each bite of the cheesecake! but it was sooooooo good! we washed down the sweetness of the desserts with a cup of their delicious coffee. i really like this place and recommend anyone who is in the neighborhood to try this authentic italian gem! read more

First time we went, we ordered a house chicken salad with their balsamic dressing which was fantastic; their house dressing was incredible, made me consider purchasing their take home bottles that they sell; chicken was well cooked and salad was fresh. Wife ordered a chicken parm sandwich, turned out to be pretty decent as well. A few weeks later on our second visit, we ordered the same salad which was a disaster: salad was all soggy, chicken was way overcooked.. I felt like I was chewing on a sponge. Wife ordered a steak sandwich which turned out to be a beef jerky sandwich; well done would be an understatement. (They didn't even ask how she wanted it cooked). Third time, they have a lot of desserts; I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took a few friends to get some pastries/cakes.. Everything tastes very artificial and refridgerated.. Ate here today for the first time as we were looking for an outdoor spot to grab a late breakfast. Great selection of fresh bagels, breads, cookies and coffee. The breakfast menu has a varied selection too. Sat outside and had a super waitress who gave us pleasant and attentive service so no complaints there. Our food came out in 10 minutes and was cooked just right. Eggs, omelette, fries and a fantastic bagel and excellent coffee. Food gets 4 stars here. Only gave them 3 stars due the people behind the counter when we wanted a few items to go. The behind the counter crew are indifferent, have zero personality, have never learned the words hello and thank you and seemed as if customers annoy them. Paneantico has an extensive list of sandwiches but you can basically create your own. I would give the sandwich alone 5 stars. Big enough to share with two people. You definitely get your money's worth. I ordered the grilled chicken, roasted peppers, and mozzarella drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The roasted peppers were to die for. The balsamic vinegar was also very addicting (sweet, sticky, tangy). I could've just had a pepper balsamic vinegar sandwich. The bread was also really great, although I can't remember what I had. The desserts were unfortunately a disaster. My friend's strawberry cheesecake was so-so. However, the tiramisu was pretty bad.
