I originally bookmarked this place because of the charcuterie boards but we both ended up with some prosecco and sandwiches. I had Sandwich Q, which included Porcini mushrooms, Parmesan and truffle cream. The truffle cream is essentially a truffle mayonnaise. It was delicious! I ate half of it and took the other half with me. Brian ordered Sandwich P and that had Porchetta, dried tomatoes, lettuce and tuna cream (I know, tuna flavored mayonnaise sounds weird but it worked). He loved it! I'm sure there is no shortage of 5 star reviews on yelp for this place! We came here when it opened for lunch. Location is great, down the street from Trevi fountain. Half an hour after open time, it's already packed! They have many delicious sandwiches to choose from and also the cutting board which is essentially a mix of cheese, salami, prosciutto, olives, jam, honey, etc. I got the medium size which is 10 euros per person. It's really really good! Love the variety of things in the board and no complaints at all. They will also give you bread if you want any. My friend for a sandwich with truffle cream and it was really really good as well. They don't skim on the black truffle sauce and it definitely adds a new level of complexity to it. This place was really good! When you see a line of Italians waiting outside in this touristy Trevi Fountain area, that must mean it's good! We arrived at approximately 6:30pm for dinner and were happy to see only 2 parties ahead of us. We ended up waiting outside for our table for 40 minutes, which I overheard was a normal wait. They don't have a really good system however, the staff just asks who is next instead of everyone queuing up. We ordered the medium mixed plate and the dessert plate. The medium mixed plate was good! They explained the order on how you eat it and then you're off. We didn't like the veggies on the plate, but loved the bruschettas, meats, cheese, and the honey and the marmalade! Loved the bread that the plate comes with too. We loved one of the brushettas so much (it was like a pepper ricotta spread) that we ordered more of that one. The dessert plate was only okay in my opinion, it was just a heaping pile of one kind of chocolate, and then a few of the same small hard biscuit. Great quality for a great price!! During my last trip to Rome I was looking for an easy lunch that wasn't a tourist trap and the recommendations looked good so I thought I'd give it a chance. The inside is tiny so I decided to just wait in the take out* line. The staff was friendly and speedy so the wait was not long. Absolutely delicious and utterly amazing!! So good that we came here twice during our visit to Rome... even though the second time wasn't as good as the first. Perhaps that was because we were feeling a bit stuffed and overloaded the second time after so much good, hearty Roman food. We ordered a wild boar meat board, a small mixed board for two, as well as two sandwiches to share - G (eggplant, zucchini, and smoked cheese pesto), and L (smoked ham, stracchino Italian cheese, and zucchini). The second time we came, we ordered another sandwich that had funghi porcini along with truffle cream, along with L again. We started off with the sandwiches the first time. L was very delicious - the smoked ham flavour meshed perfectly with the cheese and the zucchini was a lovely texture change. G was a bit too heavy - the pesto had a bit too much oil, and the cheese flavour was overpowering. The eggplant and zucchini were also a tad too oily. That being said, both sandwich types matched well with the choice of bread. However, our second time trying, we found that L was awfully cheesy and too strong in flavour. The bread was also harder the second time round. Although the funghi porcini was earthy and fragrant, it was made with too much oil. The truffle cream was really good, but overall, the combination was too strong. As such, while we polished all the sandwiches the first time, we were unable to finish them the second time. The wild board board was good, but slightly overpriced for what its price point. There were 12 slices of boar, composed of four slices of three types. Each had a different gamey and husky flavour. The mixed cheese and charcuterie board was jaw-dropping gorgeous and yummy! The pepper jam and honey that they gave to accompany the two different cuts of cheese were honestly a match in heaven. My favourite charcuterie cut was the lean ham, although the prosciutto was fabulous as well. An excellent shop with great service and really friendly waiters. I honestly miss their boards and sandwiches so much... despite being slightly gluten intolerant, I inhaled those sandwiches. They were just that good! read more

I would have to be insane to give Pane e Salame anything but 5 stars. There's probably not much here I can say that hasn't already been said better by someone before me. This was one of our "must stop"s while in Rome as a lunch spot. It's located pretty close to a few major spots - Trevi fountain, Pantheon - so it was very easy to work it into the day's itinerary. It's definitely not a big place, only room for 7 or 8 small to medium tables stretching to the back of the space. We were greeted walking in the door and shown to a 2-person table immediately. It was a noticeably upbeat and happy atmosphere inside. The employees were buzzing around pretty quickly and there was some Bruno Mars playlist on repeat so it made for a lively feel. We ordered some wine, the small meat and cheese board for two (like 8 euros apiece), and the salame, pepper, and cheese panini to split. There were like 4 different kinds of meats and cheeses on the board along with olives, jams, and the like. It was fantastic and the highest quality meat and cheese board I've ever gotten for that price. Our biggest surprise was how damn good the panini was. I don't think they did anything extraordinary to it, it just felt perfect, and it was also the best panini I had while we were in Italy. If you are out exploring in Rome and you need a light lunch or a snack, definitely make some time for Pane e Salame. I am obsessed with all of the meat and cheese in Italy, and I had heard the panini style sandwiches served here were just fantastic. The guys working there are friendly and relaxed and make you want to be there. They seem to enjoy their jobs. The food quality is some of the very best I have seen. They just get their ingredients fresh daily because everything looked so vibrant. I don't think I have ever seen tomatoes as red as the ones they were using. The only issue I had with Pane e Salame was the wait to get in, but that should only reinforce why you should go there. I was even trying to figure out how to give this place 6 stars but Yelp limits me to 5. This place is just amazing. The food here is just something from food heaven. We got the medium sample board, sandwich, bruchettas, and a bottle of wine all for 40 euros. That's insane!!!!! A dinner with a tasting board that size in the USA would cost easily $35 itself. This place just really out does itself. There is not that much seating which could be a good thing as their attention to all tables is on point. They dont come around too much or too little. The guys that help us were Favio and another gentleman I can not remember at this time but will update review once I go home and get that info. They are both one of the best set of waiters we have ever had. I honestly just can not say enough about this place. You can either eat in or just grab a sandwich and take it to go. The other great thing is that it is located by the Trevi Fountain which is a great landmark to finish so if you are there do not get lunch or dinner anywhere other than this place, I am not kidding you will not be disappointed. Probably the best meat/sandwich shop ever. My wife and I came here upon a friends recommendation and we were so glad we listened. Eating here was not just incredible but also one of the cheapest nights in Rome. The service was spectacular bar none. Our server/owner took our order so very politely and was extremely friendly.
