What a great restaurant! They've got tons of options for your Italian meat needs, including porchetta, prosciutto, salami, and plenty more. The staff is incredibly friendly and patient. €6 buys you the porchetta mondiale which has plenty of tasty porchetta (and crispy pork skin!), ricotta, sun-dried tomatoes, and almonds, all on focaccia bread. It's huge and filling. I also ordered a small vegetable board which had a great assortment of grilled vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, pepper), artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, two pieces of bread with olive tapenade and truffle paste, a hunk of cheese, and a little fruit for €5! Such a great deal for a delicious plate. No sitting charge, free water, more tables downstairs. Great food and staff. This is definitely one of the best places I ate in in Rome and Italy! read more

WHAT A HIDDEN GEM!!! My experience as a first timer in Europe is that food is expensive. A pasta can cost you over $20 euros, but La Prosciutteria is the "hole in the wall" restaurant that makes you feel like the savvy cool tourist who knows all the local deals. The charcuterie board is $10 euros per person. Plentiful and delicious selection of cheeses, meats, and bread with spreads. Good selection of wine (about $5 euros a glass, just get a bottle =p). We also got the porchetta sandwich ($6 euros?) which was yummy but I would've liked at least double the meat that we got. The guys working there are super friendly and helpful. They speak English and are basketball fans. Wish I found out about this place earlier and not on my last day in Rome. The restaurant does not have a prominent sign so it is fairly easy to miss. My husband and I both got the porchetta sandwich. The sandwich was good, but somewhat plain. It had the pork, cheese, bread, and sun-dried tomatoes. The tomatoes are what mainly added the flavor. Had we ordered a different sandwich, maybe my review would be different. All of the tables inside were full, so we ate at the one small table outside. My husband got a beer and I got an aperol spritz from the fridge. They provided us with glasses to pour them into. It was a nice quick lunch between going to the Vatican and seeing Castel Sant' Angelo. The portion given was large and we were definitely full. The cost and location were ideal. My family ate here for lunch and it completely fulfilled our need for salty, fatty Italian meat sandwiches. Prosciutto was first rate. I had mine topped w sun dried tomatoes but they have an array of condiments and accoutrements so you have a variety of ways to create your sandwich. Porchetta was also terrific. I'm so sad I discovered this sandwich shop the day before we left Rome. We stayed within 2 mins walking distance of this place and never checked it out until the day before. The place is a self serve sandwich shop, meaning there are no servers. You order at the counter, grab a drink, pay and seat yourself. We came in around 2pm and there was no one else there, which was super surprising considering the amount of reviews! Anyway they have the ingredients in front of you and cut the meats to order. The people behind the counter were so nice and inviting and super helpful. We ordered 2 of the porchetta sandwiches with everything on it. Our sandwiches were served on a wooden board, which I thought was cool. The bread was perfectly toasty and buttered. The meat was fatty, at least my piece was, but well seasoned and juicy. The mozzarella helped balance out the saltiness from the pork, and the sundried tomatoes gave it an acidity. I don't usually like sundried tomatoes much but I wasn't offended with it in the sandwich. I often think about this sandwich and crave it. I know when I'm back in Rome, I will frequent this place at least once a day. Compared to all the restaurants around, this place was quick and cheap. After the first time, we went back again and ordered sandwiches to go and an extra 2 for the airport later. They were nice and wrapped up the other 2 for us. They recognized us from the other day and laughed saying, "Welcome back!" Good service, great food, awesome value. Don't miss this place.
