They were out of house red and served us a bottle of more expensive Chianti for the same price. We had pastas as our first courses. My buddy and I split an order of spaghetti with tomatoes and basil. It was light but great. The ladies shared an order of ricotta and cheese tortellacci that my wife considered a top 3 pasta experience. The ladies shared a filet mignon. My buddy and I shared an excellent t-bone Florentine. We shared an order of cantucci with vin santo for dessert. Prices are a bit lower on this side of the Arno. Great, relaxed evening! read more

Am I the only one that thinks the steak is way overrated?? I love my meat, but I personally didn't find anything special about it. It's cooked on the rarer side, as they suggest it to be, which is fine. The fatty crust is amazing but the meat wasn't melt in your mouth tender like I was expecting. It was actually a bit chewy. It was overall disappointing. Unluck of the draw, maybe? The risotto, which I had a taste of, was quite good albeit very rich and slightly salty. Florence has seemingly become overrun with tourists and tourist traps that have followed, but this place is off the between path and was recommended to me by a local foodie so I had to slide. When I walked in with a positive attitude but without a res, the host gritted his teeth and told me to wait a sec as he went to the back. I had a bad feeling and started to look up other restaurants in the area. I hear footsteps coming my way and look up to him with his arms spread to the back, "Right this way, signóre :)" he says in a heavy Italian accent. HELL YEAH. I walk in and sit down and order a glass of the house red, 4.50 euro a glass ahahaha you gotta love this country. I ordered the Homemade Mama's Ragu, the Sliced Beef with oil, and a side of white beans. The interior of this place is stunningly authentic with exposed brick ceilings and tasteful string lights. I won't do a great job of articulating this, but you can quite literally taste the freshness of the pasta. It hits so different. The steak was cooked to perfection, as I eat my steak rare to medium rare because I'm a grown ass man. Not that I was eavesdropping, but mid meal I hear this American couple arguing about their relationship. I almost spit out my 3rd glass of house red when I heard the girl say "Why are you so confident at work but not with me?" Like what could that even mean. Two years later (this review is somewhat belated, although I certainly wish I was there now) I'm still thinking about the second-best meal I had in Italy, which was the bistecca alla Fiorentina at Pandemonio. Trust me - it's that good. I made reservations here for my friend's birthday, thinking that a steak dinner would be the perfect celebration - and I was right! The steak here is outstanding. As is customary, it's not served smaller than a kilo, or cooked over medium rare, so bring your friends and your appetites and be ready for the meat sweats. The steak is brought to the table for your approval before it's cooked, and is then proudly delivered perfectly seared, achingly juicy and tender. My travel companions also ordered risotto, even though I'd warned them it'd be too much food, and they suffered. I'd recommend getting an antipasto and a couple of sides for the table which would be the perfect amount of food. We got the beans and baby potatoes, which perfectly accompanied the delicious steak. Definitely too full for dessert afterwards, but the offered shot of housemade limoncello was the perfect digestivo to end the day. Now I'm just counting down the days until I can return. read more

Great great local fare. This is, in many ways, the quintessential tuscan resto. Classic food, done Just Right, with excellent ingredients, and a deep attention to service. Yes you can get a bistecca fiorentina here - as with most places in Firenze - but you'd be wrong to avoid it (it's genuinely amazeballs!). The concierge at the Exceslior hotel suggested Pandemonio and it did NOT disappoint. I guess we've lived under a rock all these years because we weren't previously familiar with "Florentine Steak". But when the waiter suggested it, we decided to try it and OH MY was it fantastic!! Seriously, one of the best steaks any of us had ever had. They bring your chosen amount (purchased by weight) before it's cooked to whet your appetite. It works... We also had some pasta side dishes which were delicious but it's the steak that we're still talking about 2 years later. This is a very popular local and tourist eatery across the city of Florence. You would need to reserve in advance for this one. A day or two before. The southern region of this city is known for its great restaurants. Their specialty however is the meat which is quite a handful and expensive. Ours came to almost 69 Euro dollars. The home made risotto of three cheeses and the home made Tiramisu was to die for. Very very good. On this night, there was a local wedding reception which gave the restaurant a nice cool vibe of live singing and celebration. What to know: water and bread like in all restaurants in Italy are extra and not free like we are used to in North America. We had a 7:30 reservation and by 8 o'clock, nobody had greeted us after we were sat: yet the 2 tables that came after us got their wine and appetizers. Again, we weren't even acknowledged. I emerged from my meal with a few new bites, so if you don't want to be bitten (and you want to take advantage of their free WiFi), ask to sit inside. The bistecca fiorentina here was incredible and looked so much better than others we saw while walking past restaurants in Florence. We had a steak that weighed just under 1 kilo, the chicken liver pate, and fried zucchini. They bring you the steak to examine before the grill it, which is cool. THIS is the place to get Florentine steak in Florence!! Dinner at Tattoria Pandemonio is a dinner i will remember for a long time! Ate dinner on a Tuesday evening at 8:30. I would recommend a reservation. We ate inside as it was a little chilly outside. The ambiance is very nice - intimate and candle lit. We ordered a 1 kilo steak with a side of potatoes and a half liter of house wine. The true star of this restaurant is the steak. HOLY COW. Served perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was beautiful, I really haven't stopped thinking about this steak. The potatoes were also very flavorful seasoned with rosemary. By the end of the dinner we were stuffed. The dinner ended with homemade limoncello. Total bill was around 68 euro, very affordable considering the quality. I can not recommend this restaurant enough! Pandemonio is a family run elegant Tuscan Trattoria located in the neighbourhood where the Pitti Palace is located. It's a perfect venue for lunch after touring the palace. This is off the path a bit and you will not find tourists here. We had the Tuscan bean and Tuna appetizer, rigatoni with meat sauce (Mama, the owner's special recipe) and spaghetti batarga. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is special. A restaurant that was recommended by a coworker and I am so happy that I took their advice. Do yourself a favor and try the veal, it was out of this world good and such a fantastic space. Every dish that we got was as good as the last, and even the wine was one of the best bottles we had in Italy. The space was large and inviting so would be good for a larger group but we got an earlier reservation so didn't feel crowded at all. Firenze establishments typically run lean with one or two waiters on hand, but pandemonio was well staffed and we were greeted cheerily from the moment we walked in. Was surprised as we were what appeared to be the only guests in the restaurant. However, upon using the washroom realized there was a bustling and beautiful backroom. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was delicious, scampi risotto rich and creamy, and chicken breast with tomatoes and capers was traditional Toscana cooking at its finest. We wandered in off the street and hoped for the best. We lucked out! The food is fantastic and portions are generous. The owners are sweet too. It's a fairly quiet place where you can hear your dinner companions. The front dining room is cute and there is also a back dining room. We didn't get wine (too late at night for us), but they offered a half liter for 6 euros. Next time, we will take advantage of that! The dishes we ordered were fettuccine with leeks and sausage, lightly sauced and just scrumptious, and then meatballs with beans, served in a little pan with a spoon to serve ourselves. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I have been to many restaurants in Florence through out my stay here and this one was a bit disappointing to be quiet honest. We asked to be seated in the back of the restaurant where they clearly had room, and they insisted that it was full. But half an hour later three people walked in without reservation and they magically had room for them in the back... As for the service, it was okay. It was a little hard to get the waitresses attention at times. As for the food, the bruschetta was a bit disappointing..it wasn't the usual yummy bruschetta that I found in other restaurants. And for the vegetable soup, well it was more like over cooked veggies with a bit of broth. And finally the main course.. I chose the veal cutlet with veggies, and that again was disappointing. The veal was okay crispy in some parts, and soggy is others, but the veggies were horrible, they were the same ones they used for the bruschetta and just added some leaves to make it a "salad". We were so frustrated after the main course that when she came to ask if we wanted dessert, we asked for the check and just wanted to get out of there! read more

They made a table for the three of us. We spoke different, but similar languages and so we all understood each other. The food was delicious and exactly what we had been waiting to eat. The servers were in the best moods and helpful! There were any laughs. When we were done eating, they invited us to move further back in the resturant because space opened up and they offered us some Limoncello to drink. I recently had the distinct displeasure of eating at this sad little restaurant. I chose Pandemonio as a recommendation from my hotel and can only assume that the hotel must get kickbacks or something to send guests here. Upon arrival on a Tuesday evening at 8:30pm, I was promptly seated in a half empty dining space. The setting was dated and the energy/vibe was off. I should have turned around immediately to go elsewhere to dine, but I just did not have the energy to wander around the neighborhood looking for an alternative. That being said, I wish that I had. The menu was standard Italian fare that one sees everywhere in Italy. However, the overall quality of the food was simply average. Nothing stood out as being memorable. Yawn. However, what earned this restaurant two stars was the following: 1. The service was downright awful. Our waiter, Bobo, was too busy hanging out with his friends drinking to provide decent service. He was absentee during our entire meal. Given how quiet the restaurant was, this seemed totally unacceptable. I think that the mythical "mama" had the night off, and the place simply fell apart. 2. Warning: There is a cuperto (bread charge) as well as a 10% service charge, which solidified this place as a total tourist trap. The total actually came to about 20% of my entire bill. Real Italians would never tolerate paying these charges. That being said, maybe only the non-Italians get charged, which would be pretty typical of a tourist oriented establishment. 3. One of the guests, a drinking friend of our waiter Bobo, urinated in plain site of everyone in the restaurant, in the back garden. Can you say, welcome to a fine dining experience?!
