Nonetheless, getting a reservation within their allotted window was actually quite easy. As soon as we arrived, we KNEW the sunset would be unrivaled. It was the perfect Tuscan sunset. I'll start with the food: fantastic. We had the ragu, a beef filet, steak carpaccio, and marinated tomatoes. zero complaints - everything was perfectly simple and truly delicious. The service was next level: from the giant glass of digestif presented to my father-in-law for his birthday to the round of complimentary desserts and limoncello, the service was full of joy! As we left, our server was sharing some personal tales with us. He really bonded with my father-in-law and ended up gifting him a bottle of wine that had familial significance/connection between us! We were so grateful for this special experience and have the signed bottle sitting out still today. The service is kind and quick! Very unusual in Italy to receive your food fast, but here they move pretty efficiently. I got a Sangiovese Cabernet and loved it; their bread balls with cheese and honey are *fabulous* and I was a fan of the Riboletta soup. I know that's not why people come to Italy- I tried my friends' pastas and they were great, too, especially the pesto gnocchi, which is served in the pan!- but I loved this soup. It was warm and hearty and even had some green vegetables in it. But the ALL TIME WINNER was the cheesecake. Holy cannoli, people!! This is like heavenly cream mixed with the berries of Mt Olympus and transported by magic carpet to Tuscany. Wow!! I don't like cheesecake in the States and this is not your normal cheesecake. Just get it. It's divine. (The tiramisu was also good, but the cheesecake!!!) Also, if you get to write on the wall...well, that's just a fun bonus :)

The Filet with Brunello Di Montalcino the best filet in my short 70 year lifetime. Others at the table had magnificent Pasta dishes and we washed it all down with a bottle of 2010 Brunello Di Montalcino which was kindly recommended by the personable owner. The same meal would have been twice the amount in the stares an half the quality. If you are in Tuscany it is worth the trip to Certaldo!!

All the beef entrees are cooked to a beautiful medium rare and about 12oz in size, as an estimate. Just perfect! We ate on the outdoor terrace which has a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape below. The food was traditional Tuscan, super well prepared and presented. This being my wife's favorite, decided to make a special trip to San Gimignano just to try them out! We made reservations and I am glad we did because by 8pm, every table was full. The place is very small and dark, but they add a small LED light at each table giving just the right amount of light to read the menu. We reviewed the menu only to find that they no longer have gnocchi. She was disappointed at first, but absolutely loved her entree. We weren't vey hungry so no starters tonight, but they brought bread and some sort of potato fritter that had bits of octopus in it. I loved it, my wife stopped eating it when she found out about the octopus! She was fine before I told her. We order a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio and I went for the wild boar ragu while the wife tried I Fagottini Del Contadino, pasta stuffed with pears & pecorino cheese in a saffron and pecorino sauce. Spectacular! The pear had a little sweet and the pecorino a little salt and the sauce was velvety smooth and delicious! My ragu was very hearty with lots of pork. Simply delicious. They had crème brûlée, which is my wife favorite. We still had a little wine left, so she ordered that and I got the double chocolate cake with orange marmalade. We both enjoyed our deserts very much. While they didn't have gnocchi, we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely come back the next time we are in town.
