Today on the drive back and as I approach Waco I thought I'm gonna find a great smash burger....and oh boy did I ever. 4.5 miles off the expressway yelp pointed me to Captain Billy Whizz...not going to lie on the way there I was concerned and I got closer more worried if I had in fact chosen correctly! Pulling in nothing special and the area is interesting.... Saw they had a drive thru and went what the hell let's do this! Ordered a double smash burger with cheese fully dressed extra pickle, tater tots sweet tea and spent $20.00...just me. What I received was a perfectly cooked and seasoned juicy burger...HOT. The bun was soft and reminded me of an old style burger from my childhood. This is a big juicy burger and everything you'd want and expect in a burger. Tatter-tots were ok...hard to go wrong with em.... The problem is the burger...it's soooo damn good you forget about the tots. My only regrets is that I didn't take a pic....that's how good the burger is you won't put it down till it's finished. Ask for extra napkins....

It always comes out hot with lots of cheese and has a slight but not overpowering kick from the yellowbird sauce and jalapeños. I like to put some of the fry sauce on it and it is totally fantastic. As for the side I always get the Tater Tots. I have always been a big fan of tater tots, but Hat Creek takes it to another level! They are crunchy on the outside and nice and perfectly soft on the inside. They are also quite big and filling. Dip them in some sauce and that tater is on cloud nine. They are nice change from standard fries. If you have gluten intolerances this place actually has an impressive Gluten Free bun! I was very surprised when I tried it. It has some chew and while it isn't the real thing; it's really quite close! As for the price it is a little more expensive than your run of the mill fast food burger, but the quality and what you're getting is totally worth it. I've never felt cheated, and I have never once left hungry!

Finally it was my turn to be served. I placed my order, customized it (only modified one thing), and then paid for my order. I did request for it to go. I waited and waited. Other orders got called, and I kept waiting. Felt like I waited forever. Lots of other people got their orders. I was trying to be patient. Eventually I looked back on a counter further behind the front counter. I could see a bag with my order number on it. It had been sitting on that back counter for a few minutes. Employees were passing by it, but not bringing it to the front counter and calling the number out. I was about to just walk over to the register and tell the lady who had taken my order that my order back there was ready. Finally she turned toward my bag of food, looked at the order number, and called it out. I walked up to pick up the food. She acted like it was no big deal, didn't apologize for making me wait longer, and that was that. I took my food and headed back to the car. I had a schedule to keep, so I couldn't spend much time checking out my food. I trusted that it was made to their usual quality. I headed out of town. I got a little further down the road, and then opened the bag to start eating some of my fries. I grabbed an undercooked fry from the bag. I then took the whole fry box out of the bag. I realized that about a quarter of all the fries in the box were undercooked. Yuck. Then there were a few overcooked, brown, over-crispy fries in the box too! I was like wow...but I was too far away from the restaurant to bother to drive back and ask for new fries. Then I set the fries down and took out my cheeseburger to start enjoying that. I pulled the wrapper down and started biting into it. The burger itself was not bad, but the bun was burned. Yuck. Overall, this is not the service or quality of food I had expected from there. I should not have to wait excessively for my food when it's already packed and ready, nor should I have food that is not properly cooked.
