The food here is absolutely amazing, and the cook deserves five stars for doing an EXCELLENT job! My mother and I visited today, and everything we ate tasted wonderful. Unfortunately, the two women working the front register completely ruined the experience and made us never want to go back. When we first arrived, both employees were glued to their phones. We had to struggle just to get their attention to ask a basic question about the ordering kiosk. Because we were paying with cash, we had to order directly at the register, but the cashier acted like she wasn't even listening to us. Later, I needed to go back up to the counter to ask for a second plate. My mom and I were splitting our lunch--we intentionally ordered a large portion and an extra side of rice to do this--but the cashier rudely snapped at me, saying she had "already given me a plate." (She only gave us one.) To make matters worse, the front-of-house environment felt incredibly unprofessional. At one point, the cashier had her top pulled up and her pants pulled down around her hips to show off a stomach tattoo to her coworker right at the counter. After the interaction, she was so incredibly rude that we could actually hear her talking about us all the way from our table. It is incredibly sad that such talented kitchen staff and great food are being dragged down by such terrible, unprofessional customer service at the front. Wako Roll was a real treat. After a long drive, I was tired and wanted something simple and fast so I could get to my hotel and recover. What I found was a great little sushi joint that had some interesting Asian twists to follow along. When I arrived, the dining area was fairly busy, yet felt comfortable in the modern Asian restaurant style, slightly reminiscent of a Pei-Wei. I admit, I can't do this place justice because I was tired and did not get enough photos of the place. Even though I hate using order yourself kiosk, I can't complain much about the ones at Wako Roll. The system provides you good images of the items you are selecting and easy ways to substitute or add ingredients or modify your order. The menu offers a wide variety of Korean dishes including bibimbap and various varieties of bulgogi, but what caught my eyes were the Wako Roll Tacos. I ordered a Bulgogi Taco and a Spicy Pork Taco, plus a California Roll for good measure. The tacos were larger than I expected and served in a common street taco style, but LOADED with ingredients. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the fresh vegetables added the perfect crunch. What really surprised me was the California Roll, a basic sushi staple at every sushi bar worth its name. The roll was larger than expected, tasted wonderful, was clearly freshly made, and STUFFED with a marinated, shredded crab that was an unexpected treat. When you're many hours away from Dallas or Austin in Waco, there aren't much choices for a good Asian cuisine. In my short trip through Waco, I was craving Asian food and found this little spot near Baylor U. - amazing variety of sushi and korean menus - great value for portion sizes (I couldn't finish as the portions were Texas size!) - serve serve kiosk but support staff were friendly - somewhat satisfactory taste But when you walk in with the lowest expectations in a small town diner, it's not difficult to be satisfied with a mediocre food. The spicy korean tofu soup wasn't even close to avg quality I've had in the big cities of LA, Chicago, or NY, but it did its job and satisfied my korean food craving. I am baffled how someone allows a place like this to exist. It's a disgrace to the Korean and Japanese culture. I've truly never had anything worse. As soon as I saw the presentation I wanted to get up and leave but I decided to give it a try. The fish on the nigiri was freezer burned and turned to mush in one bite. The peppered tuna looked like dogs had chewed it before it got to the plate. The rice was not sticky so it did not hold its shape. The spicy tuna roll fell apart and was again freezer burned. The dining room was disgusting. After two bites I got up and asked for my money back. The staff looks like they just rolled out of bed and put pajamas on to come to work. When I asked for my money back the staff giggled. No one seems to have any pride in what they're doing here. Truly terrible. Awful. Disgusting. Worst sushi I have ever had in my life! Total waste of money. Don't waste your time or money here. For example: my roll came out more as a poke bowl than a roll. Each roll was cut different sizes and most weren't even fully cut, causing the rolls to completely come apart. I even tried using a fork to eat. I don't think there is a sushi chef working here because this is not a mistake they would make. I didn't even mention the dust rich light fixtures above each table. Or the sticky tables. Not impressed at all. First off the place was super dirty, kinda gross. Most tables were dirty the bench seats were crusted and stained, but couldn't see all that until after you order as you order when you walk in the door & they bring it out to you. We got 2 of the dragon rolls which is spicy tuna on top of a roll with cucumber tempura shrimp avocado. The roll itself was decent but the spicy tuna was terrible! It was room temperature, almost warm and the spice was like a chili powder you might use in Mexican food .... It left a horrible taste in your mouth and did not taste anything like I've ever had. Very disappointing. The shrimp tempura in the rolls is not tempura. It's breaded shrimp that had been sitting around for a while. It was inedible. The rice was flavorless. Best sushi joint I've visited. Granted not like the joints I'm use to from Vegas but the quality and flavor of the rolls are top notch in my book. The interior is relaxing and has been clean every time I've been in there. The service was great! Everyone who served me had a smile and the place is usually packed when I'm there. Those who have knocked this establishment are clearly not use to korean or japanese themed restaurants. I'm use to the 4 and 5 star restauraunts from Las Vegas and I still enjoy Wako Roll. Their portions are HUGE with their specialty rolls. You won't go hungry! Their udon bowls are super tasty too. My wife prefers the tempura shrimp udon and begs for it everytime I mention this place. Btw, I highly recommend the French Kiss roll. If you aren't use to sushi or the flavors or the seafood I recommend starting out with a sashimi to get a taste of the fish relatively by itself before you dive into the rolls to appreciate them better. Not sure about the korean menu as I got turned off of korean foods a few years back but am tempted on the bulgogi tacos. But this is my go to for sushi even though it's a twenty minute drive for me. Just be mindful of your prices as I easily drop almost $100 each time I go but it's very much worth it imho. Okay, the 3 star rating for this place is extremely misleading. A lot of the poor ratings are because of the service. In fact if you do a little research into going to such a place you will realize that it is a dine in at your own convenience type of place. Besides that, the food is amazing. Extremely delicious and came out at an appropriate time. I saw one rating saying that you need to try the Korean dishes and that the sushi is subpar. I ordered both and I will say that their Korean dishes are definitely better than the sushi. The sushi is okay, the selection for spicy sushi is pretty low and there's some with descriptions that have things like spicy mayo. So take time and read what you're ordering before you add it to your cart. I would've taken a picture but the display of the food was too good for me to even think about that! The lady who greeted me was nice but when she tried to ring up my carry out order ( I ordered in advance) her co worker said she couldn't ring me up because she was counting her register(cool) . I stood there for 10-15 min, the manager came and was talking around me, asking them "what's she waiting on" . When she was done releasing the cashiers (the manager) she didn't greet me or apologize for anything she just said "cash or card?" and then swung my food to me like she didn't want me there!! Wako Roll Probably would not have gone to this restaurant if my daughter did not recommend. Enter the restaurant and view the menu which is pretty extensive. We ordered a few combo dinners and a poke bowl. Galbi Dinner was served on a hot metal platter with onions served with rice. Good flavor and served hot. Bulgogi Dinner was also served on a hot metal platter with onions served with rice. Good flavor and generous portion. Wako Roll was huge and delicious, could have been a meal by itself. Beef, avocado, spicy crab, cream cheese, deep fried and teriyaki sauce. Would highly recommend. Dragon Roll was good and more average in size of what I would expect. Pretty nice interior decorated very heavily asain theme. Plenty of parking in a large mall area. Very good restaurant, totally exceeded my expectations. read more

I have no idea as to what is going on with this place. Our family used to look forward to visiting when we were in Waco as the food was amazing . I definitely cannot say that any longer. It has turned to absolute crap. ALL OF IT! The rolls aren't even edible, the edamame's are dry and wrinkled, and even the god dang Thai tea is atrocious! In fact the last order of 2 rolls and gyoza that was purchased, all were dumped in the TRASH CAN! It tasted like it had gone bad and they used it anyway ! Absolutely repulsive !! I would never visit again as I'm afraid of food poisoning. In all seriousness, they need to do something soon or there is no way the doors can stay open . We came here for lunch today from Austin. Our local friends brought us here! We got the California roll, the Crab roll and the Spider Roll. Our friends got 2 rolls, one I forget but the other was called the Cracker Roll. It was topped with flaming hot Cheetos. Everything tasted great! They only have one huge size for sodas and water cups. I'd recommend sharing one big drink or just get water. The staff was friendly and helpful. They only accept cash tips. They don't just serve sushi. They have a real expansive menu and several dishes that came out to other customers looked really amazing. I don't have a problem with the food, but the customer service and decor/cleanliness is bad. There are hand written, passive aggressive notes taped all around the restaurant, telling people what not to do. You don't get the feeling they actually want customers. The two women who brought out our food were rude. One of them was actually argumentative with a girl in my group and was rude to her. We were all blown away at their attitudes. Now to the actual building... You can't smell the food because it smells so strongly of harsh cleaners. Not appetizing. It doesn't look clean though and the restaurant is messy. I will say, I paid a couple of dollars for green tea and the presentation was sad. They once brought a nice teapot and a cup. Today they brought me a giant styrofoam cup, with a bit of water and tea bag dropped in there. It's honestly like they don't want customers. I don't get it. I once loved this place but my friends and I all decided to never return. I finally decided to give this place another try after the previous time, they charged me for a sauce after the menu said it came with chefs choice. They left it dry and made me pay for it when I asked for one. This time, I ordered my food through my phone over 20 minutes before I wanted to pick it up.
