Stopped in for breakfast on Sunday morning. Entire floor was handled by one friendly gentleman so the service was a bit slow, although efficient. Food was good, although my bean and bacon taco was a little skimpy. The hot sauce (ask for it) was extremely hot, but very flavorful. Use was caution!! Came here with friends for Saturday brunch. This is your classic definition of a hole in the wall mom and pop shop and it was absolutely amazing. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Seating was pretty open and they were willing to rearrange your seating to accommodate your group. As you can see from the menu, part of it is handwritten which speaks more to its mom and pop nature. The lovely part is there's a coffee station with both caffeinated and decaffeinated with a random assortment of mugs that you're at the liberty to choose from. They also have a free station where you can choose one of any item you want to go with your meal whether it's rice, pudding, fruit, or juice. I ordered the breakfast chilaquiles. It was warm, hearty, and filled you right up. I definitely left there full and content. Everyone else in my party loved this place as well. "Panchos and Gringos" has been on my "to-do" list in San Antonio for quite a while and I'm now sorry that I have waited so long to try it. This is a truly special addition to the San Antonio food scene. A breakfast place that knows how both american and mexican breakfast is supposed to be done. It is a rare day when the owner spends time to fully explain the menu and honestly chat with patrons. There is a passion and love of food happening here that is clearly apparent from his attitude toward customers and the product that comes from his small kitchen. This love affair is profound and genuine. I tried rojo chiliquiles and my companion tried verde chiliquiles. My gripe with so many mexican restaurants is their lack of care when ingredients are misaligned, presentation is haphazard, and tastes are boring. We visited Pancho's and Gringos on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The drink options are in a self serve area but the owner was so helpful he helped mix the perfect iced coffee for us to start. Today I had the chilaquiles. They use a lovely and flavorful salsa on the totopos and then provide a variety of extras. Eat the habanero compuesto. It's a great way to wake up. They don't miss point blank period. My absolute favorite spot when my other half and I can't agree on American style breakfast or taqueria vibes. They've got all the classics enjoy a top notch stack of pancakes or the best chilaquiles you've ever had or even my personal favorite the happy waitress a grilled cheese with tomato sporting a perfectly fried egg in the AM! When we entered, we were met by a gentle-giant, he was very soft-spoken and let us know that the drinks were self-serve. We ordered our food and the gentleman returned moments later with Fideo soup. First time here. Went around 830 and as mentioned in other reviews you get menu at the door and are seated by the owner. And for his mom a steak breakfast sandwich. First the sweet tea. It has a very artificial sugar taste. My son's mom said the coffee was good. But my son and I both noticed the flavor of the tea. We still drank it. When my pork chop plate arrived it looked delicious. Scrambled eggs cooked perfect. Potatoes also perfect. The pork chop was a little thinner than described. It was not seasoned and was a little dry. I mentioned this to the owner when he came to get our played and asked my opinion. He sent me a free dessert because of it even though I absolutely did not need or expected anything. Just giving an honest opinion. The pancakes were well made, but after his first bite my son said they tasted "different." Turns out when I ate mine I knew what he meant. It was the syrup. It also tasted sort of artificial. Kinda throws off the taste of the pancake. My son's mother said her steak sandwich was amazing. Makes me kinda wish I stuck with my first mind and stayed with the French toast sandwich.
