That is literally how useless I was today. I was doom-scrolling on Yelp and saw this place come up. Not too far from me, but I've never been. By the looks of the reviews, people really like this dive. Hey, I'm sold! I make the short drive here by myself ready to try something new. THE LOCATION: conveniently located dead center of a section of a strip mall right off Potranco. Lots of parking, but as I'm quite familiar with this lil shopping center, parking can fill up fast some days and times. THE DIGS: this place is super cute! Clean, tastefully decorated, pop music playing overhead. A chill way to spend a Sunday afternoon. THE MENU: Prices are quite reasonable and lots of classic options of comida Mexicana and Tex-Mex. Something for everyone. What to pick?! DECISIONS, DECISIONS: This Mom n' Pop eatery starts guests off with a complimentary cup of fideo and chips and salsa. You may have to request the chips yourself. They also offer ranchera sauce (served warm) and a trio of freshly made salsas to complement the chips. As for my meal, I decide on the popular Tampiqueña Plate (Grilled steak, cheese enchiladas, rice, refried beans, guac with salad). I am also elated that they have house made aquas frescas- horchata, limonada and Jamaica, as well as handmade flour AND corn tortillas. . HELLO!!! THE SERVICE: It's a quiet hour and I'm glad. I get to enjoy my early dinner at a leisurely pace, ask all my questions about the menu without feeling like I'm holding the staff up. My server is so professional and thoughtful, going above and beyond to make me feel content and fully satisfied with my meal. THE FLAVORS: First off, can I just RAVE about the horchata? It wasn't until I took my first sip that I knew I was in for a hoe made great that is (sadly) so rare in this city. Jackpot! I don't even care what the rest of my meal tastes like at this point. I am a happy girl, y'all. But the flavors keep coming... fresh quac on a side sald, classic Mexican rice, yummy refried beans and a classic Mexican style steak in its simplicity. The ranchera sauce (with chips) is flavorful but not at all spicy, in fact, the very slow and mild tickle at the back of the throat is so minor that Kiddos 3+ years would enjoy it, too, imo. And yes, I also refer to your Anglo-Saxon babies. Lol. Really, very nice flavor and such a thoughtful consideration by the staff to offer it. The trio of salsas are also very delish, but the creamy orange one got me as expected. A color like that should draw attention to itself no matter the restaurant you're in. The heat surprised me even still and I was grateful for the fresh aquacate on my plate and horchata to rescue me. So much flavor in these salsas! OVERALL: my first full impression of this place is quite good. There has been quite a bit of turnover in this restaurant's space. The server tells me that the new ownership took over less than a year ago and not only do I intend to return, but I really hope you stop in and show some love to this hard-working crew who clearly have a passion for feeding hungry girls like me.

Husband ordered chilaquiles rancheros and a regular coffee. He said his coffee was luke warm but his plate was good. Aside from the servers and the overall vibe of the place, the food itself was good in our opinion. I would come back when they have barbacoa to taste it and the pozole was good after a tiny bit of salt just to bring out the juice flavors. I don't normally add salt to my food in general. But this time, it worked. I am not a menudo person so the fact that they had good pozole close by my house was a major plus! The Cafe de olla was really good but just a tad on the sweet side for me. But again, I would still come back to taste their other items.

This is a prime example of HOW NOT TO adapt to the changes in the economy. You either shrink potions, but keep same quality or make substitutions and keep same prices.. Shame shame...they did all the opposite! All of our fav dishes are no longer on the menu. I didn't even bother taking pictures anymore. As for service, almost all the workers have displayed professionalism & kindness. Tending to my father and I to make sure everything is up to standard. The only complaint I have is one waitress did get snappy when there was misunderstanding of what drink flavor we wanted a few months back. Other than that one interaction, I can't complain about the rest of the staff. they are wonderful! The entire restaurant is cleanly and spacious. I like the ambiance and atmosphere here. Each of those had choices like chicken or beef. I also had a choice of refried beans or borracho beans. I opted for two beef enchiladas, a beef puffy taco, and refried beans. The server put my steaming hot plate in front of me along with a separate plate for the puffy taco and a container of tortillas. It was an amazing amount of food. Now, if you know me, you know I evaluate Mexican restaurants on their rice, beans, and tortillas. Mia's rice was some of the best I have ever had. The texture was perfect, and the flavor was absolutely delicious. The beans were also very good. They were nice and thick and tasted of lard. Where Mia's fell a bit short was with the tortillas. They did not pass the smell test, they were a bit dry, they were a bit hard, and they did not taste that good. However, my wife has brought me tacos from there, so I know that they are capable of making some damned good tortillas. Maybe today they had problems. I don't know. The enchiladas on my plate were substantial. There must have been at least ¼ cup of ground beef in each one. The enchilada sauce was very good. It was not too salty like so many restaurants have started making. The puffy taco was as good as any I have had anywhere. It was huge, so I ate it with a fork. I could only eat about half of it. I was STUFFED. Trust me... There is no better STUFFED than when you are stuffed with delicious Mexican food like they serve here. My wife ordered and enjoyed an al carbon salad. She had some dental work recently and has to be careful about what she tries to chew. I'm glad she enjoyed it. I am not a salad eater (hence the big butt and belly). It did not look appetizing to me. The restaurant vibe reminded me of Mexican restaurants from my childhood. The music was nice. Everything was clean. The servers and hostess were awesome. I need to go back when I can get someone else to drive so I can have a margarita with my meal.
