Despite growing up around here, I somehow never stumbled through these grand entrance gates until recently. This gem of a garden isn't just my butt's savior now on long drives up from LA, but it's a sliver of paradise found--and sanity regained. Just walking around here for 15-20 mins. and you'll feel your blood pressure drop a few notches to a pleasant state of calm. You can explore the themed areas, take in the vegetation around you, and get landscaping tips just from strolling around their property. The plant things are grouped in various climate/hemispheres and it's nice to see them taking root and being incorporated in a seamless design (and it's nice shopping experience too). I was impressed with the selection and bought a few small air plants and succulents that are still thriving with offshoots. Prices are reasonable. For pros looking for inspo, I think this place that can offer Interior Designers & Landscapers creativity with plants. Or even the DIY Weekend Warrior looking to revamp their current landscaping or add a little something new to it. They have a wide variety of exotics, California natives to indigenous to Australia, and every other tree, shrub, and greenery in between. I wasn't disappointed. As mentioned elsewhere, Jo has an amazing selection of Protea and other exotic plants, unlike anything you will find elsewhere....and guess what? - once established, the Protea bush I planted in the front of our house NEVER needed any watering once it was established and it flowered every year. I was so happy to have an interesting flower with such little water and effort. So recently, after moving house a few months ago a similar thing happened... a family friend bought my wife some amazing looking flowers. I asked what they were and she told me they were 'wax flowers'. So again after searching online guess who had them in stock? Jo ! So we went back over to her nursery and she remembered us from all those years ago. We bought some more Proteas and 3 or 4 wax flower plants. After we went to the latter with only partial success, DH suggested going to Sterling. He'd been there before, while I had only wanted to visit but had never stopped in. It's beautifully laid out. Though it's a nursery, selling all manner of trees and other plants, it's arranged to feel like you're visiting a designed garden. Once we drove into the heart of the property I was somewhat confused on where to stop and park. DH remarked that they had done some major rearranging since he'd last been there, so he wasn't sure where to direct me to go. We found a spot that wasn't blocking any of their driveways, then got out to take a look around. We weren't seeing any succulents, nor any employees to ask. I was soaking up the beautiful surroundings when one of the staff offered to help. He said that they don't sell smaller succulents, only one and five gallon pots. That's not going to work for us at this stage, so we thanked him and moved on to another stop. I would plan to return when looking for larger landscaping needs.
