As a store there's all sorts of different plants and gardening items that you'd need. I like to stop by solely for the botanical gardens in back. It's a nice small excursion if traveling to LA. What a wonderful concept to put a botanical garden on the property, it could show what you could do with the plants that they sold. It's tranquil to walk around and explore yet it is right next to the 101 so the freeway was loud. They really packed a lot of diversity into this small area. There were plaques for each different garden. Plaques I noticed (though there might be more) were South African Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Grassland, Cottage Garden, Native Garden, Succulent Garden, Central/South American garden, Australian garden, and Asian garden. My favorite was the Asian garden because it had a pond with koi fish. read more

My husband and I were on a road trip up the coast and while looking for things to do, several people mentioned this place. As lovers of nature and plants we decided to add it to our itinerary and I'm glad we did. It's just off the 101 freeway and it's massive! You can buy plants, take a walk around the paths, and even peruse the gift shop. They have some cool, fun, and unique gifts that are perfect for everyone. We had some time before visiting the Alpaca Farm and I couldn't pass up stopping by Seaside Gardens. An amazing nursery with a small botanical garden that makes for a beautiful visit. I was in search for a trailing plant that loves sun, that can be potted, and I think I found it. Service was friendly and helpful. I really wanted the Santa Barbara Daisy, but I was told that it sells out immediately. I was pointed in the direction of the Geranium Incanum and loved it. If you're headed in this direction and love plants, this is a must stop. read more

Seaside Gardens is a total gem of a place to visit, savor, and enjoy! I'm surprised that I hadn't updated my original review from July of 2019 until now. Dear Hubby and I have visited a number of times since then. Even accounting for not traveling much during the height of the Pandemic, we still could plan a jaunt to Carpinteria and stop at the Gardens. We normally plan for enough time to go for a leisurely stroll through the botanic gardens sections of the property. With the stunning backdrop of the nearby mountains, there are so many amazing visual delights to enjoy. The loving care in which the various garden zones were created is so evident. Botanical gardens are our jam, and once we learned that this wasn't just a place to come shop for plants, it made me so happy. It's completely free to stroll the pathways and take in the beauty. Being close to the ocean, the temperature is normally mild and conducive to a casual walk. We never leave empty handed - so let that be a challenge for you. How could you not find inspiration here and want to take some plants home? It's also a great place to find unique gifts for anyone who enjoys gardens / gardening, or just nature-themed items. I even recently purchased a gift card which was made of paper with wildflower seeds embedded in the card stock. The entire card could be laid onto top soil/potting mix, watered periodically and would break down as the seeds start to germinate. Fascinating! Many of the plants are a great value, especially the succulents. We've also purchased a number of air plants here over the years. Seaside gardens is such a gem and always a must stop along the coast when I'm on my way up to SB. Essentially seasides gardens is advertised as a garden nursery but it's so much more than that. Seaside has plenty of flowers, plants, and succulents to choose from. Their assortment is insane and the prices are insanely reasonable. I got two six + inch succulents with full flower blooms for $5 a piece. You can't beat that and the selection here goes on and on. I also love coming here for gifts and have bought a fair share of items for others here over the years. They have two indoor rooms with cute little garden supplies and gifts. A great selection. I bought my mom a large sea-glass stand for her garden here and it's now lasted many years in her garden. They have so many cute things here, better gifts and small house items than any other garden store I've been to. Staff here are always nice and they let you look around the grounds without making you feel overly watched. Everyone is nice and willing to help, while giving you your own shopping space. Seaside gardens does have their own private parking lot which is another plus. The last thing I'll say that I love about this place is how massive their grounds are. They even have their own walking paths amongst the gardens and plants. I love to stop at their koi pond and to take some pictures. A relaxing and scenic place. 5/5 stars! Seaside Gardens is a wonderful Botanic Garden. I really think it is a must see if you are anywhere near there. We found it on Yelp and are so happy we did. They have the nicest flat garden to walk on and you won't fall. They had patching stones. You will wind your way through a beautiful variety of plants from around the planet, some I have never seen in my life. They have old trees which are growing so nicely in this area. They also have a for sale nursery with a great selection. Now, it is a tad pricey, but they will tell you what you can plant where you live and what you will end up killing. The staff is just great. They even have a gift shop and that I found to be a bit too pricey for me, but it is super cute. We will be back when we are in town. It is just fun. read more

I've stopped here twice on my way further up the coast, and the place is a delight. As many gardens and nurseries as I've visited over the years, there's always some new-to-me plant surprise. Whoever curates their garden art selection has a really good eye, too. The small but spacious botanical garden is arranged by geographic areas of the world, with each credited to different landscape designers. Tall shrubs, trees and berms limit what you can see from any one spot, letting the gardens slowly reveal themselves as you meander the pathways, stopping to watch a butterfly alight on a flower, or admire how afternoon sun illuminates naked ladies (Amaryllis belladonna) under shade trees. First time seeing a nursery with a walkable garden in the same area. It's a quick walk around and will probably take about 20-30 minutes. It's quite enjoyable and you can see some pretty unique flowers that I haven't seen before. The nursery is pretty nice as well and they sell many different flowers. This is a great place to visit when looking for something to do while in Carp/Santa Barbara. It takes about 40 minutes to walk through. We were greeted by a staff member that gave us a map of the grounds and then off we went to enjoy. It's very quiet and peaceful here. There are a lot of spider webs on the pathways in which webs often stretch from one end of tree branches/bushes to an adjacent tree/bush so it's a good idea to walk slowly through the gardens and watch what is in-front of you. The cute gift shop has some unique gifts for those that love to garden. It's a nursery where you can buy the plants too. read more

I live over sixty miles away, but I will definitely go back to buy some Australian and South African drought tolerant plants. They have their plants in sections based upon the regions. This place is gorgeous and I would happily purchase all of my plants from here as it is way better than any of the other nurseries in town. Unfortunately, we were treated poorly. We found a metal donkey that was perfect for our yard. We asked how much it was. The woman told us she couldn't find a price on it so she would sell it to us for $100. We said we will take it! Then we looked for plants. Came back to purchase the donkey and were told by another employee that it was $375. We told him she said $100. She looked at us and said " well I knew it was going to be something close to that " and laughed. Needless to say, we left without the donkey. I believe the price should have been honored. This is not a great way to treat customers. We won't be going back. read more

If spending time in a botanical garden sounds boring to you, add some adventure with a game of dodge the spiders! Take the back paths to really get your heart pumping! See if you can leave the webs undisturbed so that your opponent unknowingly walks thru them. I expected a brief and leisurely walk around a small garden but I was pleasantly surprised at every turn with a various garden designs and water features. Even in September, the colors are beautiful. We seemed to go backwards- plants for sale, path of a 1,000 spiders, areas by different designers and lastly the koi pond. I recommend veering right from the parking lot, to the pond, then take the various paths. A place of inspiration and something different to do as a tourist. Also, Dog friendly! read more

Stopped here on our way home from Solvang as it was recommended by my Mom. What a beautiful place! The front area has all the plants for sale. There's a succulent section, shaded plant section and then full sun plants. There are various sized pots and bird baths. There's also a store but I didn't go inside. Then the huge back area is where you can walk the grounds. Even if you want to just come here to walk the grounds and enjoy all the plants and flowers, it's a must if you like this sort of thing. There is so much to walk through, lots of places to stop and sit and I saw so many plants I've never seen before. Even hubby enjoyed it. I ended up buying some succulents, plants and flowers. Prices seem fair especially with the variety they have that I don't typically see. Stop by if you're in the area. read more

When you drive down from Santa Barbara (Mission Canyon) and arrive at 4:47 and the gate is 1/2 way closed as you pull up, then someone walks out and closes the rest of the gate. You then tell the person that is closing the gate that you just drove down from Santa Barbara, and the business hours online say you're open until 5. Then the employee just waves their arms at you and says "registers closed, registers closed"! Super Disappointing! Waste of my time! If you are not going to be open during posted "business hours" change what is posted online so this does not happen to anyone else! Ridiculous! read more

What a magical place! The gardens are absolutely beautiful and the meandering paths through them take you to a bedazzling display of plants and flowers. For butterfly lovers, it's paradise, lucky us to have been able to wander through without another soul in sight, just us the gardens and the butterflies. Staff working here are delightful, helpful in answering all of our questions in a pleasant, cheerful manner. We had a wonderful time at the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens today. Unfortunately not many flowers are in bloom right now (best to go in the Spring or Summer). I recommend listening to the volunteer at the entrance explain the trail before beginning (even if you're a local like myself!) A lovely place to get your gardening needs on with a good selection and gardens to walk around. I visited a bit late and got drawn in by their succulent options and ended up with 4 of them. They were reasonably priced around $2.99 for each small 2 in one. I hope to visit again and walk around their gardens some more because people have advised it to be a nice 10-15 min stroll. Crazy good nursery and botanical gardens. Have you ever bought a plant only to have to move or remove it because it outgrew its location? I've bought several adorable agave that have turned into monsters. Beautiful, but too big for the space i selected. While not all plants in the nursery are in the garden, many of them are, and i found that super helpful to know the mature plant size. The nursery is also packed with native and adaptive plants. I've been looking for a Hymenosporum flavum for several years...and this is the nursery that had it. Extremely helpful staff. read more

Your nursery dreams come true! You can make a nice trip out of this visit because there is actually a big garden to walk around in the back with a bunch of different paths. Each part of the garden is designed by someone different and has its own personality. I find the plants are really affordable as well and they have a big selection of pots. Everything is also well labeled so you know what you're looking at. The staff is very friendly and asked immediately if I needed help finding anything. I bought these plants after asking one of the workers if the white spots/stains on the leaves will come off. She reassured me it will come off. She said those are just fertilizer stains and will wash off and wipe right off. I have tried wiping it off with dish soap, diluted vinegar; diluted lemon to no avail. These stains does not come off. I can't even return these because I was only in Santa Barbara on vacation. And I am not back in L.A. I wish the worker knew what she was talking about. I bought two of these pothos. I gave the review a 3 star instead of a 1 because I'm sure it's just that one worker's lack of knowledge and training. read more

Seaside Gardens it's one of our favorite places to go and shop, get inspiration and sometimes we take visitors just to walk around. It's so pretty and the people that work there are so nice. A special thank you to Tahlia and Adrian who are always so helpful. The gardens are beautiful and change with the seasons. The selection of plants is enormous from small little 4 inch succulents to large container trees. The displays are gorgeous and there's a wonderful gift shop, as well as a great selection of fountains and garden Art. Don't forget to stop by and look at the beautiful Koi in the large pond with lotus plants and water Lillie's. On our last visit here we bought family visiting from the bay area. They loved it. We were lucky enough to see large clusters of monarch butterflies in the huge star pine trees that were magnificent. The garden gift shop is decorated for Christmas right now so it's really fun to visit and the perfect place to find little gifts. read more

What an awesome place! We were in Carpinteria to hike the bluff and decided to stop by to check out the garden which was separated by different geographical regions (ie, Asian, Australian , Grasslands etc) with little bridges and a large koi pond with giant koi. It surprisingly was quite large. We found beautiful and unusual plants during the stroll and later could buy those plants in the nursery section. Prices were reasonable and the service friendly. There's also a large chicken run with 3 big chickens and a friendly black kitty we were told is the "chief rodent control officer." LMAO read more
