Such a beautiful place to explore and have some peace! I love that they have a beautiful garden to explore plus a huge selection of plants, pots, and fountains. My dog and daughter both loved exploring the botanical garden and the staff was very kind
We had some time before visiting the Alpaca Farm and I couldn't pass up stopping by Seaside Gardens. An amazing nursery with a small botanical garden that makes for a beautiful visit. I was in search for a trailing plant that loves sun, that can be potted, and I think I found it. Service was friendly and helpful. I really wanted the Santa Barbara Daisy, but I was told that it sells out immediately. I was pointed in the direction of the Geranium Incanum and loved it. If you're headed in this direction and love plants, this is a must stop.
Seaside Gardens is a total gem of a place to visit, savor, and enjoy! I'm surprised that I hadn't updated my original review from July of 2019 until now. Dear Hubby and I have visited a number of times since then. Even accounting for not traveling much during the height of the Pandemic, we still could plan a jaunt to Carpinteria and stop at the Gardens. We normally plan for enough time to go for a leisurely stroll through the botanic gardens sections of the property. With the stunning backdrop of the nearby mountains, there are so many amazing visual delights to enjoy. The loving care in which the various garden zones were created is so evident. Botanical gardens are our jam, and once we learned that this wasn't just a place to come shop for plants, it made me so happy. It's completely free to stroll the pathways and take in the beauty. Being close to the ocean, the temperature is normally mild and conducive to a casual walk. We never leave empty handed - so let that be a challenge for you. How could you not find inspiration here and want to take some plants home? It's also a great place to find unique gifts for anyone who enjoys gardens / gardening, or just nature-themed items. I even recently purchased a gift card which was made of paper with wildflower seeds embedded in the card stock. The entire card could be laid onto top soil/potting mix, watered periodically and would break down as the seeds start to germinate. Fascinating! Many of the plants are a great value, especially the succulents. We've also purchased a number of air plants here over the years. What I especially like is that their selections are often unique and not samey-samey. Long live Seaside Gardens!
I have been stopping in here for years! They have a fabulous outdoor botanical garden area that they keep adding to so you can see a wide variety of plantings. They have a nice selection of plants from regular potted daises on the porch to full on statement garden plants. Staff is always nice and knowledgeable.
Seaside gardens is such a gem and always a must stop along the coast when I'm on my way up to SB. Essentially seasides gardens is advertised as a garden nursery but it's so much more than that. Seaside has plenty of flowers, plants, and succulents to choose from. Their assortment is insane and the prices are insanely reasonable. I got two six + inch succulents with full flower blooms for $5 a piece. You can't beat that and the selection here goes on and on. I also love coming here for gifts and have bought a fair share of items for others here over the years. They have two indoor rooms with cute little garden supplies and gifts. A great selection. I bought my mom a large sea-glass stand for her garden here and it's now lasted many years in her garden. They have so many cute things here, better gifts and small house items than any other garden store I've been to. Staff here are always nice and they let you look around the grounds without making you feel overly watched. Everyone is nice and willing to help, while giving you your own shopping space. Seaside gardens does have their own private parking lot which is another plus. The last thing I'll say that I love about this place is how massive their grounds are. They even have their own walking paths amongst the gardens and plants. I love to stop at their koi pond and to take some pictures. A relaxing and scenic place. 5/5 stars! I love love this shop and will continue to be a loyal customer here. If you haven't checked them out yet you definitely must.
I've stopped here twice on my way further up the coast, and the place is a delight. As many gardens and nurseries as I've visited over the years, there's always some new-to-me plant surprise. Whoever curates their garden art selection has a really good eye, too. The small but spacious botanical garden is arranged by geographic areas of the world, with each credited to different landscape designers. Tall shrubs, trees and berms limit what you can see from any one spot, letting the gardens slowly reveal themselves as you meander the pathways, stopping to watch a butterfly alight on a flower, or admire how afternoon sun illuminates naked ladies (Amaryllis belladonna) under shade trees. Don't miss it if you're in the area!
First time seeing a nursery with a walkable garden in the same area. It's a quick walk around and will probably take about 20-30 minutes. It's quite enjoyable and you can see some pretty unique flowers that I haven't seen before. The nursery is pretty nice as well and they sell many different flowers. Parking is plentiful and free in front.
This is a great place to visit when looking for something to do while in Carp/Santa Barbara. It takes about 40 minutes to walk through. We were greeted by a staff member that gave us a map of the grounds and then off we went to enjoy. It's very quiet and peaceful here. There are a lot of spider webs on the pathways in which webs often stretch from one end of tree branches/bushes to an adjacent tree/bush so it's a good idea to walk slowly through the gardens and watch what is in-front of you. The cute gift shop has some unique gifts for those that love to garden. It's a nursery where you can buy the plants too.
Beautiful little nursery near the ocean. Serene little walking path with native drought tolerant California plants. A nice gift shop too. Everyone that works there was low key but helpful. There was some sort of catered food but we were off to a picnic so didn't inquire. Wonderful little place.
A random search on Yelp lead to an overwhelmingly serene and breathtaking afternoon. We could have spent hours here! The left with a few boxes of succulents hoping to create our own little magical space.
BEAUTIFUL DROUGHT TOLERANT PLANTS ================================== My friend Jenny, who lives in Ventura, recommended this nursery for drought tolerant plants. I live over sixty miles away, but I will definitely go back to buy some Australian and South African drought tolerant plants. They have their plants in sections based upon the regions. I love their Acacia covenyl plants from Australia and the Leucadendron salignums from South Africa. I'll definitely be back again.
If spending time in a botanical garden sounds boring to you, add some adventure with a game of dodge the spiders! Take the back paths to really get your heart pumping! See if you can leave the webs undisturbed so that your opponent unknowingly walks thru them. I expected a brief and leisurely walk around a small garden but I was pleasantly surprised at every turn with a various garden designs and water features. Even in September, the colors are beautiful. We seemed to go backwards- plants for sale, path of a 1,000 spiders, areas by different designers and lastly the koi pond. I recommend veering right from the parking lot, to the pond, then take the various paths. A place of inspiration and something different to do as a tourist. Also, Dog friendly!
Stopped here on our way home from Solvang as it was recommended by my Mom. What a beautiful place! The front area has all the plants for sale. There's a succulent section, shaded plant section and then full sun plants. There are various sized pots and bird baths. There's also a store but I didn't go inside. Then the huge back area is where you can walk the grounds. Even if you want to just come here to walk the grounds and enjoy all the plants and flowers, it's a must if you like this sort of thing. There is so much to walk through, lots of places to stop and sit and I saw so many plants I've never seen before. Even hubby enjoyed it. I ended up buying some succulents, plants and flowers. Prices seem fair especially with the variety they have that I don't typically see. Stop by if you're in the area.
What an awesome place! We were in Carpinteria to hike the bluff and decided to stop by to check out the garden which was separated by different geographical regions (ie, Asian, Australian , Grasslands etc) with little bridges and a large koi pond with giant koi. It surprisingly was quite large. We found beautiful and unusual plants during the stroll and later could buy those plants in the nursery section. Prices were reasonable and the service friendly. There's also a large chicken run with 3 big chickens and a friendly black kitty we were told is the "chief rodent control officer." LMAO read more

If you ever want to feel like you're escaping the 'burbs, I have the place for you, Seaside Gardens is it. This place is heaven on earth. You're probably thinking, " but it's a nursery!" Yes, it's a nursery, but not like any other nursery. This place boast different regions around the world, and shows off the different plants from those areas. I always feel transfixed when walking the grounds. It's tranquil, the customer service ppl are helpful, and the variety of plants is plentiful. read more

Seaside Gardens it's one of our favorite places to go and shop, get inspiration and sometimes we take visitors just to walk around. It's so pretty and the people that work there are so nice. A special thank you to Tahlia and Adrian who are always so helpful. The gardens are beautiful and change with the seasons. The selection of plants is enormous from small little 4 inch succulents to large container trees. The displays are gorgeous and there's a wonderful gift shop, as well as a great selection of fountains and garden Art. Don't forget to stop by and look at the beautiful Koi in the large pond with lotus plants and water Lillie's. On our last visit here we bought family visiting from the bay area. They loved it. We were lucky enough to see large clusters of monarch butterflies in the huge star pine trees that were magnificent. The garden gift shop is decorated for Christmas right now so it's really fun to visit and the perfect place to find little gifts. read more

Came here to see live lotus flowers and was not disappointed!! Diana, the owner, was so welcoming and pleasant to talk to. She made our entire experience magical by allowing us to come back and see the lotus flowers up close!! It was my mother's birthday so it was a dream come true for her. The lotus flower is my favorite flower because even though it grows in the muddiest ponds, it overcomes it's dirty environment and blooms into a beautiful flower untouched by any filth (metaphor for us going through life positively no matter the hard obstacles we face). The garden was much bigger than I expected! There was so much to see and I'm amazed by all the different plants! They also sell plants and there were so many cute succulents! The garden is free of charge which is so nice and they are open 7 days a week. We originally were going to go to Lotusland but Seaside Gardens is so much better!! Price wise (free compared to other gardens), friendly environment, being able to go up to smell the flowers and guide yourself through the garden is so nice. We hope to return one day and see more lotus flowers bloom in the garden. Thanks again Diana and everyone that assisted us at the garden. We are extremely grateful for the experience! If you are in Santa Barbara it's a must visit!! read more

Love, love, love this place. Even during the sparingly Covid times where there's a little less stock at places. I have to come here there's always something new I see. Today I bought a few plants, some of them are native, and some are not. I also bought the cutest ceramic handmade planter decorations. They have butterflies on them. I'll post a picture so you could see. The staff is always wonderful, They have knowledge to share, always a pleasure. Just walking around and looking at the plants for sale, and their plants to just enjoy like the giant aloe trees it's worth coming here for. Anyways my friends if you do come here let me know how much you love it. read more

Well, lookie here...another ice cream cone in my hand. Damn, you Rori's. I was in Santa Barbara, and how often do I REALLY get to go to Rori's since I live in LA? So, in effort of burning a few calories, I turned to my Yelp app to help me find a place to walk...preferably with scenery. Seaside Gardens? Let's roll. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! What a great idea combining a botanical garden with a nursery/store! Though the botanical garden was actually smaller in size, it felt HUGE! Several landscapers maximized the space and created different themed gardens resembling the various climates and regions around the world: wetlands, grasslands, the Mediterranean, rainforests, etc. As you walk throughout the gardens (with provided map in hand), you can pick out a theme that catches your eye and then go to the nursery to buy the necessary items to recreate it! Turns out that your wonderful garden experience just so happens to be one big advertisement for the nursery as well! Hey... I was cool with it. I love Win/Win situations. The grounds are very well kept. So impressive how each created "region" was spot on. And how awesome is it that the nursery had wonderful and whimsical stuff to make anyone's gardening dream come true? Lovely. Plus I walked off all that ice cream. 5 stars. read more

Today was a magical experience, a once in a lifetime type of a experience. With the guidance and kindness of Liz and Antonio, I was able to adopt 3 wonderful new plants: Pilea peperomioides, bulbine frutescens, and my favorite beautiful 'Blue Eyes' Fuchsia. Now, I didn't just randomly drop in without doing my homework. Of course, for a while I've had ideas about adopting plant life that would bring the birds, the butterflies, and the bees around. I knew that I wouldn't be around Santa Barbara for much longer, but I wanted to care for something for a while that I could foster and bring back home to tell their story. You guys are the first to hear their story. Here, I began by walking through the diverse and vast variety of the different gardens; tropical, central south American, succulents, Australian, Asian, Mediterranean, wetlands, grassland, fountains, and more. For some reason, I was just swept off my feet (had to sit down, thankfully provided by each garden) and I couldn't help but feel absolutely joy and peace. It's almost like the plants are talking to you saying "stay, be with us". For me, a 21 year old millennial searching for something greater than herself, I was able to find my place. And now, I can't help but feel the need to come back there, and there's still so much to discover... There's obviously more to the story, but there's also more to come. I'm saying this because Seaside Gardens not only gave me a beginning, but blessed me with a connection to something I didn't realize I loved till it hit me. Maybe it might do the same for you. Thanks Liz and Antonio, I'll see you guys soon :) read more

Loved this place. Along with a really great nursery, they have this fabulous botanical garden to stroll through that's on the property! If you're in the area it's really a must see. Enjoy the gardens and purchase some wonderful plants! I stopped by one day to purchase some plants and then came back the next day to stroll the garden and then purchased a few more plants! read more

This is a very nice nursery with a full botanical garden in the back that is seriously impressive. We came here as a group for wedding pictures given the amazing scenery of their botanical garden. They have a great selection of succulents, agaves, aloe, cactus, etc. with good prices. I was able to find a good number of harder to find agaves here as well as some really good books on succulent gardening. Excellent place overall in terms of pricing, selection, and especially aesthetics. Don't skip the gardens! read more

This has been on my must see list for a couple years and was well worth the wait. Great service by true plant people. One of the plants I choose had a slight mealy bug problem, they wouldn't let me take it until it was cleaned and treated, it's thriving now. Really impressed with the service. Plus a botanical garden! read more

One of my favorite nurseries of today's "nursery outing!" She's got everything! If you love succulents then you'll find exactly what you want. We found some that we have been searching for that are "hard to find" described like looking like a bowl of grapes. We also came across spring cactuses that were blooming in every color that I couldn't pass up. Prices weren't out of control. Plants were labeled by region. Customer service was amazing!! read more

Is this more of a nursery to buy plants and flowers or more of a sightseeing destination to walk through gardens?
